Here’s to many more drawings from everyone. Happy Halloween!
Here's the drawing my co-worker commissioned. It's supposed to be a present for the girl featured in the picture. I hope she loves it as much as my co-worker did!
Very nice. I’m sure they’ll love it.
Looks like I’m not done drawing just yet.
I’ve started work on an image of the characters from the stunningly beautiful game Neva. I’m still feeling out the style and colours but I think I’m happy with the composition.
It's looking good!
I haven't played Neva, but I know it's by the same team that made Gris, which I did play and love. It's a Spanish team, and the art director (at least for Gris) is a Spanish graphic designer named Conrad Roset whose work I thought you friends might like, so here's his website.
Fantastic thanks. Neva came out very recently.
Yeah. I tend to get to games at least three to four years after release...
I’m very much the same. I’m trying to let myself buy the odd indie new if I’m really excited for it but it goes against all my instincts
It helps me justify such extravagance to remember that I get to play quite a few full games ‘free’ via PS Plus.
More progress. Heading in a good direction. The tree leaves might be too fussy. Not sure. Also, lots of wonky ripples in the water. Thankfully they’re on a separate layer.
It's looking good! I'm really liking the reflection!
As for games, yes, I might some indie games close to release if I'm really curious or if they are cheap enough, but for all the others, I wait until they are super cheap.
Guess what I didn’t most of the day today when not eating, napping, feeding the cat or playing Balatro.
That is soooo good! Time well spent, my friend!
Thanks
That's a great drawing Higgledy—something with a real idyllic/mystic quality to it.
I like your commissioned drawing too, Mario. I hope the girl it's for likes it.
After finishing Arttrober, I was feeling quite drained, so I stopped drawing. For one day. But I really wanted to draw something outside the time constraints of a daily challenge—something I could take more time on, but also something that wasn't too outside my comfort zone.
So yeah, obviously I drew another devil-girl / tiefling / erinys character:
Okay, now that that is out my system, maybe I'll consider playing some games again.
Super awesome, Ravanon! The tilted frame adds a lot!
Really love it. Great outfit, wings and pose. I second the wonky frame adding a ton.
Edit: One thing that bothered me about my Neva drawing was the predominance of yellow and green. I think I solved it by adding flowers! I’ve also refined the clothes and turned the pad of Neva’s front paw slightly because it’d probably be starting to flatten out for a landing.
Started a new drawing of a character from Beneath Oresa.
Looking good so far!
Thanks! I landed on this pose after a couple of others that had more gun twirling. I like my background so far.
Edit: Just a smidge of refinement over night . I’m colouring the line work differently in different areas. It’s only half done.
Pretty sure it isn’t possible to comfortably hold a gun at that angle behind your back. I may alter the angle of the gun or splay her lower fingers or just keep it as an example of comic book style posing. Realism aside, I like the angle as part of the overall pose and like that it immediately reads well. It isn’t going to confuse the viewer as to what the heck is going on back there.
The hand and arm definitely look better like that.
I’ve realised that the back of the hand aways faces your back when you’re arm is behind you. A fix is on the way!
So pleased with how it’s looking in general.
Technically you could have the open hand facing the back but the thumb would be down. And the gun could still be held upright, but the trigger would have to be pulled by the pinky or ring finger.
Fun things to figure out. It is why I like 3D posing and the program design doll for experimenting with poses.
Sadly you can only adjust hip width and not butt size
That’s incredibly useful. I wouldn’t even have thought to look for a programme like that.
This is the pose I came up with over the weekend.
Varying coloured line work is a minefield! Think I’ll take a break from it. I’ve lost the capacity to see what’s going to improve it at this point. Fun one to do though.
Ok, turns out I didn’t take that much of a break. Here’s my latest position for the gun that I’m pleased with considering my discovery that photographs of women in this pose (lots of versions with knives rather than guns) also look a little odd.
I’ve also done a painting of a falcon.
Wow. That falcon is gorgeous!
I am a bit biased towards birds of prey
Same! Awesome job!
We did the Peregrine Falcon at my Wednesday art group today. Cheryl, who’s rule is that she won’t paint anything that breathes (me having found ways round the previous rule of ‘no fur or feathers,’) elected to paint a small fishing boat pulled up onto a beach from a book she’d brought herself.
As I toured the group and arrived at her desk she said, “Look, look, I’ve drawn a seagull! It’s the best bird I’ve ever drawn!” I looked at it. It was quite good but a bit cartoony and it’s head was too big. The biggest problem though was that it was out of scale with the fishing boat making the boat look too small. “You can’t change it! You’re not going to change it!” Cheryl said preemptively.
“No, no. Not necessarily.” I helped her fix the perspective on the boat (boats are difficult to get right.) While we worked I wondered about increasing the size of the boat to match the scale of the golden eagle sized seagull but there wasn’t enough room on the paper.
“You’re looking at my seagull again,” Cheryl said, as I considered what we could do with it. I may have laughed uncontrollably for a while, which I wouldn’t recommend, unless you’ve known the other person as long as Cheryl and I have known each other. “What’s wrong with it!”
“ It’s a little big.”
“Big!!”
“Out of scale with the boat but we don’t have to change it.”
“No, no,” she grabbed her rubber, “It’s clearly wrong.” She rubbed it out and handed me her pencil. I drew a smaller seagull.
Cheryl looked at it for a moment. “You’re very good at drawing seagulls Stuart. That’s almost as good as mine.”
She went on to do a brilliant job of the painting.
Also, Jan made some double ginger ginger cake, which was delicious.
Okay, I vanished for a bit there, but I liked your Beneath Oresa drawing, Higgledy, and commiserated (is that the right word?) with your attempts to get the pistol behind the back posed just right.
I've been up to my usual tricks, this time drawing a tiefling/demoness-type character from behind while trying to figure out where to position the wings in such a way as they wouldn't obscure the character. In the end, I went for having the wings rest on the floor behind her.
I also did a more 'infernal' variant:
Not sure which works best, but to be honest I'm not wholly satisfied with either. I think I need to think more about how I colour/shade things again.
I also did an 'angelic' version of the last drawing I posted upthread, which I've just realised I never posted. I don't want to clutter the thread, so I'll just post a link to the relevant page on my blog if you want to check it out here.
Great story, Higgledy, and great drawing, Ravanon!
Today was the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break, so I had my last class watch The Lorax (which they chose over Coraline, which is insane, but whatever) for the last 30 minutes, and I drew this while they sort-of paid attention to the movie. It felt good to draw again!
I made it up as I went along, but at some point all I could think of was "I guess I'm drawing Sebulba."
Fantastic pose Ravanon. Nice, original way to show wings.
Great drawing Mario. It’s good to have a break, I think we all needed it to one extent or another but I’m glad you’re back drawing!
Thank you! Me too. I've been feeling the itch to draw for a while now, but Resident Evil: Village has been taking all of my free time. I think I only have an hour or so left in the game, so hopefully I'll get to draw some more this coming week. I should have plenty of time since school's out until the 2nd!
