Aargh. I had to go out this evening and didn't finish the drawing beforehand—so now I'm hurriedly uploading at midnight.
Day 26 of Arttrober is Starlight from The Boys:
I'm going to bed now.
Starlight! A character from a show I watch!
Very nice. Well done. Sounds like that one was to the wire.
Yeah I love The Boys too. Well done!
My Masters of the Universe portraits are getting simpler and simpler, as Day 27: Stratos shows:
I really need to color all these!
I've a bit more time on a Sunday for drawing, so I can get this done before the end of the day and even have time to do something else in the evening (I've no idea what though).
Day 27 of Arttrober is Reina from Tekken 8:
As I've probably mentioned before, I don't play fighting games, so I've no real opinions about Tekken. Reina's baggy jacket does give something of an alternative look however.
I think the simpler style works well Mario. Fantastic purple jacket Ravanon.
This isn’t my best. The problem with telling an extended story is that sometimes you’ve got to get your characters where they’re going in a functional way.
27 Road
Thank you, Higgledy. And even if you call it utilitarian, your drawing turned out pretty cool!
Ravanon, I agree with Higgledy: fantastic jacket! It also helps that it is my favorite color.
Day 28: Trapjaw:
Now I want to know what he uses that eye hole on the top of his head for.
28 Jumbo
It's a good trick, adding a splash of colour for the elephant.
Day 28 of Arttrober is Panty & Stocking from... hold on...
Panty AND Stocking?! Oh for crying out... okay, fine.
Day 28 of Arttrober is Panty & Stocking from Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt:
Another exercise in taking a highly-stylised character design (or rather, two designs) and seeing how they look in my own style.
As for the show itself, I've heard about it, but never felt the need to go see it.
Never heard of those two or the show, but the drawing looks cool. I think the cat is my favorite.
And continuing with animals, cool elephant, Higgledy!
Thanks Mario!
I’ve never heard of them either. I like the purple and pink hair.
Day 29: Grizzlor.
Whoa! Scary!
29 Navigator
We're getting closer to the end...
Day 29 of Arttrober is Gambit of X-Men fame:
Another appearance of the elusive male character on this list. Also another opportunity to practice drawing trench coats.
We're getting closer to the end...
Whoo!
Another appearance of the elusive male character on this list. Also another opportunity to practice drawing trench coats.
And a fantastically rendered trench coat it is. Sleeve crumples are an art in themselves. He looks great. Young and svelte.
He does look like a teenage Gambit, haha --but he looks great! Also, Gambit is one of my favorite X-Men, so it's always nice to see him.
Higgledy, I love the composition in Navigator! Excellent job!
Since we're close to the end and we have not been producing enough pieces, here's an alternate version of Grizzlor:
I was going for an Iris Compiet feeling... but it turned out to be harder than I thought!
Higgledy, I love the composition in Navigator! Excellent job!
Thanks! I did a lot of resizing and moving about of the elephant.
Day 30: Two Bad.
Nice! They look like they don’t get on at all.
30 Violin
(I have a plan for tomorrow.)
And finally the violin comes into play...
Day 30 of Arttrober is Elena from the Steet Fighter franchise (I think mainly SF3?):
This is the last predetermined prompt for Arttrober, so now I have to make a final decision regarding what to do for the 'personal choice' prompt tomorrow.
Great character design. Mine’s kind of a personal choice day as well. Although the choice has already been made .
Good job, Higgledy and Ravanon, and congratulations on having only one drawing left!
Here's a bonus Day 30: Mantenna!
This concludes my Masters of the Universe miniseries. Tomorrow I'll do a Halloween drawing!
Teri Garr quick and dirty tribute, like rrrollin in ze hay
Likeness is not great, she looks more like Rebecca de Mornay, but I enjoyed the fast approach, almost caricature-like.
I'll be trying grids in the future, thou I do not seek realism in my pieces, I'd like to stop apologizing for likeness being close but not enough so much, or butching proportions so consistently.
Great job guys, love that character Ravanon, and your MOTU's studies Mario, also Higgledy's sequence has been really interesting to keep track of.
So I guess we won't be posting again until late september 2025? too bad, I was beginning to enjoy it!
Feeank, you are forbidden from waiting that long to post again!
Thank you as always for your kind words. And don't be too harsh or yourself --likenesses are HARD! Your drawing does look like Teri Garr... but also Rebecca de mornay, which is fascinating!
I think you’d have a job stopping us posting drawings now and I hope you will too. It won’t be as frequent for me admittedly (understandably enough I tend to loose interest in drawing for a while immediately after October.)
Nice portrait Feeank. Grids could be good. I’m constantly mentally measuring distances when I do faces. It’s so tricky because the tiniest change to the corner of a mouth can make the difference between likeness or not.
Yeah, I always want to play creepy games in October (I even bought a game called Creepy Tale), and it is always by far the month I play the least because of Inktober. As a matter of fact, I've only played for about an hour this month, and it was on Monday, so I spent the whole month wishing I had time to play. So, as soon as November hits, I'll be playing more and drawing less.
As for drawing likenesess, I also measure everything constantly when I am doing a portrait. I use my fingers, fingernails, and pencil to do so. It takes a long time, but it is also fun... and that's what matters!
Day 31: My iguana Maximus wishes you a Happy Halloween!
Fantastic. I’ve tried painting iguanas before and I know how tricky their skin is to get right.
I’m looking really forward to Stalker 2. In anticipation here is 31 Landmark.
Another great pencil likeness, Feeank.
And a good iguana, Mario!
And a good stalker(?), Higgledy.
I guess a good final day in October in general.
I'll be trying grids in the future, thou I do not seek realism in my pieces, I'd like to stop apologizing for likeness being close but not enough so much, or butching proportions so consistently.
I usually put a grid over any pose reference I use, just to make sure that I don't stray from reality too badly when drawing—I find a lot of my intuitions regarding body proportion and shape to be, well, completely wrong. I think it's a problem I have to train away by observation and practice. Which I guess I'm doing, so that's good.
Day 31 of Arttrober is personal choice. And my personal choice this year is...
Cyrus Albright of Octopath Traveler:
I chose Cyrus as my main character in Octopath Traveler because I like mages and scholars, and Cyrus is very much both. Though I haven't finished the game yet (because it takes me forever to finish anything), I have quite enjoyed Cyrus's particular mix of cleverness and obliviousness. Arttrober is also so female character heavy that I felt I needed to add at least one more male character to the mix, just so that Sukuna and Gambit wouldn't be the only men in the collection.
And a good stalker(?), Higgledy.
Yes! Fingers crossed the game is coming to PS5. Pretty sure it will.
I guess a good final day in October in general.
Definitely. We brought our ‘A’ game.
Excellent Ravanon. Nice pose and incredible colours as always.
Way to finish strong, friends!
Ravanon, this guy might be one of my favorites in your latest Arttrober collection.
Higgledy, I'm not familiar with Stalker, but your drawing looks awesome!
I don't know what you guys think, but to me it felt like the past 31 days just flew by! And, needless to say, Inktober will be back sooner than it seems possible, because that's time for you.
Now, let's all go and play games... but keep posting drawings! I actually have something a co-worker commissioned, but I'll post it tomorrow.
Happy Halloween!
