Printerest is a friggin’ nightmare between A.I. And adverts for scented candles.
10. Nomadic
Love it, Higgledy!
Day 10 for me is a member of The Court of Owls:
The lighting came out of me wanting to have the convoy in shadow. It did turn out well.
Court of Owls! Really like that one. The black figure with white detailing and the extreme perspective.
One of the things I love about learning to draw is how it has taken things that I'd once have seen as sexualized, and made them the bane of my existence.
I spent a solid 20 minutes trying to get this figure drawing model's butt right in the pose she was in, and it JUST. WOULDN'T. ART RIGHT.
I have never been angrier while looking at a naked lady's butt before.
EDIT: A similar thing happened to me at the beginning of my journey in a figure drawing class. The model was one of the most attractive humans I've ever seen in my life, but once I got over that and really focused on on trying to do the 2 and 5 minute exercises, there were several parts of her body I just couldn't get right and it was driving me insane.
I did a lot of painting and drawing from naked life models, men and women (outside of what we did at college.) It quickly became matter of fact and I think it’s helped me enormously with creating figures in paintings. If someone wants to be in illustrator I’d recommend it. I’m not sure why I did so much of it in my own time but people and animals are the two subjects that interest me the most.
I do still seek reference for particular poses.
One of the things that helped me with hips is to think of them as a bucket cut in half.
I always pictured the rib cage wrapped around the lungs and esophagus. And the the pelvis as encasing the bladder and lower intestines.
With the stomach and upper intestines unprotected.
I think it also helps to remember that the leg bones protrude at the top where it connects into the hip socket.
Or one of these:
Good use of light and shadow from folk today!

I appreciate the advice, Fang. Though... I'm not sure I quite understand which way the half-bucket goes? I might be being a bit slow.
Day 10 of Arttrober is Ayase Momo from the manga/anime Dandadan:
Another protagonist from a recent manga I've vaguely noticed around but haven't read (or seen anything of the anime adaptation of). Is anyone here familiar with it?
I just started watching the anime version on Netflix. It just came out I think. I ended up liking the preview and watched more. The series has great style and seems to be well written. Worth giving it a try.
Great drawing, Ravanon!
And let me tell you, DanDaDan is AWESOME! I've been reading the manga for about two years now, and it is incredibly fun. Out of the three manga series I'm currently following (Spy Family and Blue Period are the other two), it is probably my favorite because it is hilariously bonkers, and the art is phenomenal. I have not watched the anime, but I would expect it to be equally wonderful, so I recommend you check out either one.
Here’s the title sequence
I started reading the manga recently (currently in volume 2), and it is very entertaining. Also: That theme song by Creepy Nuts is a banger.
Also by Creepy Nuts, the insane and amazing theme song from Mashle season 2:
Fun theme songs!

Blue Period is SO FRIGGIN' GOOD!! It's mine and my oldest kid most favorite manga and we are anxiously waiting for the drop of the new chapter every month. The TV show was my intro to it and we have must have watched it a dozen times.
Just started watching DandaDan on a whim and I adore it so much. The animation style is bonkers good. The amount of foreshortening they are doing, flawlessly, is nuts. Highly recommended. Just hit pause on any frame and start drawing.

I'm so glad to hear that! I read the tankoubons, and I am a bit behind, as I need to start volume 8, but yeah, I love it too.
Moving on to Inktober, here's my Day 11: Man-Bat:
Oh nice. A scary Man-Bat.
So I'm getting the impression that maybe Dandadan is quite good, yes?
Day 11 of Arttrober is... hmm. Seems that today the Arttrober list converges with your own list, Mario.
Because Day 11 of Arttrober is Catwoman! From, you know, Batman and stuff.
I don't mind occasionally knowing who I'm drawing. I'm still trying to get the hang of 'painting' the highlights on leather and other 'shiny' surfaces, and this one is basically all about that.
Great work guys!
I may finish / publish an unintended arttober prompt today, I've been doing a portrait during the week but wasn't aware of this conjuction. Oh well.
Very good both!
This could do with more work but I think I’ve got to call it 11. Snacks
Okay, fine, I wasn't going to post it, but I'm really proud of this one. This is Sparrow, the half-elf:
Ravanon: I love your Catwoman!
Feeank: We want to see your portrait!
Higgledy: Love it! I can totally see an indie game done in this style.
Prederick: I like the energy! Are you drawing digitally or with a pen?
Me: Day 12 on Inktober brings us the conclusion of my Batman Villains miniseries with Killer Croc!
That drawing if full of character Prederick.
I approve of this new style of elf ears that seems to be gaining popularity. My taste in Elf ears is diametrically opposite to my taste in Batman’s ears. Batman’s ears should be as short and stubby as possible, with elf ears, as long as they can maintain structural integrity, the longer and more sticky out the better.
That’s an extremely scary Killer Croc Mario. Really like the way you’ve done the scales.
I go back and forth on elf ears. I like them fairly long and pointy, but how much they stick out or whether they ought to be swept back I can't quite decide.
Day 12 of Arttrober is Kitana of Mortal Kombat fame, here in her Mortal Kombat 1 incarnation, not to be confused with her incarnation in the first Mortal Kombat game (because what do numbers really mean anyway?!):
This was one of the ones where the costume was just a little too complicated for comfort for a one day drawing. Good thing it fell on a weekend.
That fan is a massive pain to draw.
Fantastic drawing. Your heart must sink when you see how complex some of these outfits and weapons are. That’s such a delicious blue.
I’m not sure about my drawing today but at least it full fills the brief, which is 12. Remote
Ahá, took me a bit longer and I didn't want to post it late at night. Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, from a TV show. Wanted to do a series of Catwomen, but I'm not sure I'll do another one for now.
Had a lot of fun trying to suggest the different materials of her attire, sweater, jacket, gloves, goggles, etc. However, I keep running into a familiar, long problem I always end up facing whenever I get back into drawing: I feel as if I keep trying to "Ink" with pencils, instead of using them properly. Not sure if that makes sense to any of you. I also went today and bought a handful of 4,5,6,7 and 8Bs so I can have more tools to blame for my artistic shortcomings : )
However, I do feel like that, not sure if this sensation is something that could be fixed by attending some proper Art / Illustration classes or scavenging for some tutorials, not to learn how to draw but to learn more about the tools or techniques instead. What do you guys think?
Using higher B pencils should help you with achieving some very nice darks and you’ll be able to vary the line weight easily.
An art class always helps. You learn from other students as much as the tutor. Tutorials could be good. Copying other artists drawings or paintings really teaches you a lot about how they work and think.
Man, Kitana's outfit has really changed since I met her in Mortal Kombat II forever ago. Awesome rendition, Ravanon! The texture on the fan looks great.
Higgledy, your Remote might be my favorite yet! And I'm glad you liked Killer Croc. My mom thought he was a turtle...
And really cool, Feeank! It's a good idea to get different pencils --I should do the same! I usually use just one, so I never get really dark grays or blacks... so I usually don't do grayscale.

The traditional ones are fine but I got radicalized by the big anime Elf ears because you can use them to help the characters emote, and that shit looks adorable.
Inktober Day 13 starts my Transformers miniseries: Laserbeak!
Oooh nice!

One of my favorites!

It does a bit, yes. Though I tend to bring this on myself, when there are simpler variants I can do—I tend to underestimate how long these embellishments actually take to draw.

Oh, nice. I didn't watch Gotham, so I didn't have that version of Catwoman in mind, but you make her look good.
I've never been able to make the time for proper art classes, beyond my school days. But I suspect I would have learned a lot more quite a bit faster if I had.
Day 13 of Arttrober is Bulma from the Dragonball manga/animes:
I tend to hesitate when I have to draw a character belonging to a series with its own distinctive art style. Dragonball is one of those series. Akira Toriyama's art is very distinctive—so do I try to replicate his style, do it my way and risk the character being completely unrecognisable, or try something in-between?
It doesn't help in this case that Bulma changes appearance a lot in the series.
In any case, I've drawn her as I've drawn her, in her 'Wild Riders' outfit, that she apparently only appeared in in one specific cover in the manga, and never in the actual series itself—but the outfit was popular, so hopefully it's not as if I just drew someone entirely random.
