Weekly Drawing Prompt Thread

As I said, I've been watching X-Men '97:

Some fun X-Manning. I haven't been watching the new show though (not that I watch much of anything these days, between drawing and gaming).

I do like the portrait version better, yes. You did a great job on the perspective, so there is nothing to "fix," but I would consider having a background that helps sell the idea instead of the (admittedly cool) abstract background. For instance, some houses in perspective. I mean, this would only entail having to work on the drawing for several more hours! :P

Not a bad idea regarding the background so... a revised version (though I chose an approach that wouldn't take quite so many hours!).

Can’t beat a bit of X-Men inspiration. Works well Ravanon.

I’ve been on a mini holiday to Ireland with friends and the grandson of one of my oldest friends is into drawing on the iPad. It was great to be able to show him some of my recent stuff. He was only doing small cartoon drawings but he already had quite a nice style in terms of lines, etc. If he keeps at it he’ll soon be doing some impressive work I’m sure.

I think this version works WAY better! And yes, much faster than drawing a bunch of buildings!

Higgledy, your trip sounds like so much fun! I'd love to go to Ireland and back to Scotland. Maybe one day!

The X-Men are my favorite Marvel characters, and I followed them until the late 90s, so the show works great for me. But talking about inspiration, I finished Bramble: The Mountain King yesterday (I believe you've played it, Higgledy, right?), and there are plenty of creatures there begging to be drawn!

Yes I did! Great game. A real rollercoaster at the end.

For real!

Okay, I wasn't intending to post anything again quite so quickly, but I had a headache yesterday that got in the way of doing anything involving reading lots of text from a screen, and ended up spending most of the day finishing a drawing I'd started over the weekend.

So... here's another drawing, this time of an elven lady with mechanical wings in the fashion of an angel.

Does this count as solarpunk? Probably not, but whatever.

You've invented Halopunk!

Fantastic. Lovely colours.

Very cool!

HP Lovecraft sketch, doesn't look like him as much as I'd want, but again, getting back into the drawing horse is the important part.
Regular pencil, a 4B and another one I can't tell what number is, looks very similar to the 4B thou

I like it. It has a Lovecraftian atmosphere just from the lighting and the way the bricks start to curve.

Very cool, Feeank!

I get a Twilight Zone kind of feel. I like it.

I finished X-Men '97, so I watched a movie today and it inspired me:

The Mummy?

Yes! Well, The Mummy Returns, but yes. And I even colored it:

You now have to make a companion Rachel Weisz drawing or else!

Not a bad idea!

I did this sketchy (as in sketched ) drawing of myself.

I’ve been working on a painting (never know whether to call iPad work drawings or paintings because mine are usually a mixture) of the character in Dredge with a sea monster in the water behind him but it just looks awkward. I have a new idea which is the boat from below looking up past various weird sea creatures. I’m going to have a go at that.

Love it, Higgledy! But I am surprised --I pictured you looking more like... The Hulk.

Jokes aside, I can't believe your post for two reasons:

1. I've been playing Dredge, and I've been thinking about doing a drawing inspired by the game.

2. I'm reading Blue Period, a manga about artists I think you're familiar with, and in the last volume I've read, the main character draws a self-portrait, which has me wanting to do one as well, and here you are doing just that! So, at the risk of looking like a copycat, don't be surprised to see a self-portrait of yours truly in the near future!

Hehe

Oh interesting. I’ll look forward to seeing them.

My portrait was inspired by Disco Elysium’s wild and painterly portraits. Mine’s a bit tame by comparison but I do like it.

Now, if you were to tell me you’re sat in the back garden typing on your phone with a little cat curled up on your chest, I really would start to think our lives are becoming strangely synchronised.

I just want to say that I'm also a little weirded out by the idea of Higgledy not looking like She-Hulk.

Next someone is gonna claim that Ravanon doesn't have wings

And Feeank doesn't have a really long head.
I don't look like and invid mech
Mario's hair isn't that spiky
Etc.

I do have all those elements here... but I'm typing this on my Mac Air inside of the house (it's way too hot and mosquito-y outside), and I don't know where my cats are. Upstairs, I presume.

Let's not get too crazy, friends. There's no way Ravanon doesn't have wings!

So THAT's what your avatar is! I confess I had not been able to figure it out.

Mario_Alba wrote:

Well obviously—he's not angry in that painting. You wouldn't like Higgledy when he's angry. (It's a really good self-portrait though!)

The real question is whether I have a tail or not.

fangblackbone wrote:

HEY!, *that's for the ladies*

That's a very nice Higgledy, Higgledy. Is that Procreate?

Yes it is. I like all the traditional media brushes, etc, watercolours oil charcoal, pencils, etc.

This needs a change of perspective for the surface boat I think but I’m too excited not to share it. It’s inspired by Dredge.

Curved surfaces and boat especially are difficult to do perspective/ fore shortening with.
Curious to see what you come up with. Probably be easiest to look for a good source pick.

I love the boat trail and the atmosphere for sure.
