Nice!

All sketches, paintings and drawings, complete or incomplete, definitely welcome.

To stop me wrestling with the foreshortening of that armoured arm for ever more, here is my Magik portrait.

To be fair, I am in rehearsal for a few original works :)

Thanks guys, focusing seems to be my main problem, waay too much screen time, I have to pull myself out of the desk and find another place where I can isolate with a notebook and some pens, I sketch a little and rest my mind from the unending barrage of info we are usually exposed to. Been doing this last couple of days and intend to build on it little by little.

I’ve gone back to podcasts via a podcast app rather than watching them on Youtube. It’s a backstop for the mind.

Higgledy inspired my sketch today:

Nice

Here’s my design idea for the bottle of Eagle Sweat cologne that features in Helldivers’ in ship adverts.

Cool!

I wanted to see how much I could f… mess about with a screenshot from Signalis (featuring the art of Yuri Stern who was also co-writer and director.) It turn out way better than I could have ever imagined.

That looks super cool, Higgledy!

I think I’ll just need to lighten it a little but I’m very pleased.

Wow, the thread has been busy lately.

someone (not here), pointed out that I haven't been drawing much other than attractive ladies lately (well, not that that's a recent habit). Anyway, I drew something a bit different this week:

IMAGE(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv07bzvzBwg19muh7nq0efN3kADWm7lcMbhCRcpPGFBrkSCyrLgn1H9BqGGtrEcM-j6xQYgcDML6dT_voUjskxLEtY3HLa2ZJ74forEINOynuxLgx-_UiAKFIJjEu71WvzTOee18rvuqe_dI_0DY-Jirl_C0rDR9D-wNEJyL5IGIY9pS0uN3mHptLZZ5Xk/s1600/Blacksmith.jpg)

And I am working on something (rough 3d sketch that I am mulling over whether to draw over it or continue to flesh it out in 3D)
Its and ornithopter/gyro hybrid. The hybrid makes it stovl. I feel like while hovering has its uses, it is so inefficient and is much more practical with a very short take off with the wings feeding the gyro in ground effect. Anyways:

Fantastic Ravanon. Atmospheric.

That’s looking good Fang. Great idea to map it out in 3D. Looking forward to seeing it worked up in 2D or 3D.

I second what Higgledy said. Good job, Ravanon and Fang!

It doesn’t have to be practical to be cool. Look at the AT-ATs, or the Gostbusters backpacks and traps. If it looks cool, it is cool. Go nuts.

Here goes nothing

First sketch I've managed to complete* ever since I posted last week about getting back into drawing, took me about 20-30 minutes, started awful but eventually I stopped caring about whether I was capturing the model's likeness and more about finishing a coherent portrait of sorts. Regular pencil on white paper notebook.

Model is venezuelan singer Laura Guevara, ref pic from her instagram account.

It’s a very nice sketch.

Yes, it's some good work. While the likeness maybe isn't perfect, I think you still managed to capture a lot of the features of the reference picture, especially considering you're working with pencil and paper (unlike a certain someone who heavily relies on the undo feature on his iPad).

Very cool, Feeank! Plus, you didn't make things easy for yourself choosing to go with that angle, which I personally find very challenging.

Thanks for sharing, and I hope you continue to do so!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the support, I was getting desperate after a couple of days of not getting anywhere, dreading the blank page and regretting each line I akwardly doodled, took a short (2-3 day) break from trying to sketch anything and finally was able to finish this. I hope next steps won't be as taxing.

Just for context, I was doing stuff like this 20+ years ago, if I can get near that level again overall I'll be more than satisfied

Super cool! I love her face. She reminds me of a friend of mine!

The hair and the lips are really nice on your second drawing.
On the first drawing, like others have alluded to, don't sell yourself short. It has a good likeness (who cares about perfect). Plus, both with and without the source, the subject is a very credible human being.

I remember a couple of things back from my sketching and figure drawing classes.
The first is when I was first starting off, I tended to slightly over emphasize folds and features. This made my drawings look like an older relative of the model.
The second is that artists tend to blend in some of their features into their drawings. I am 6'3" and 230 lbs. So I would tend to make a petite model longer and curvier. (subconsciously) Also I would incorporate things like rounding or broadening a pointed nose that hinted at some of my nose characteristics.

I don't know if either of these apply to you, but it is worth a thought and a logical counter to "I am not as good as I was" self critique.
Also, you worked on it for 20-30 minutes. Which hats off to you. Most times when I drew models, even just heads, I was in an artist friendly environment and we would draw for easily an hour and a half or more. Not to mention quick contour warm ups.

Thanks guys, love the feedback and tips, I think I can get back "there" with a little bit of discipline and having fellow artists doing the same alongside makes it easier somehow. I really don't think I would have done that sketch without having posted here first, for example.

Can't say I do that, at least not with portraits, for things like hands yeah most certainly, I frequently end up posing my hand in the position I need and try to base the drawing on that, but I think most people do that at one point or another.

Oh hands, for sure. Fun fact is that I just looked up how to draw or what are the characteristics of the female hand like 6 months ago.
It is crazy to me how I never noticed the female pinky finger reaches roughly half the middle finger.

Another drawing, just before the month ends: a witch, on a broomstick.

IMAGE(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo8-n9qeT4OIdShL7h-nepZbOQusQYjQLQ-5kSvmPdzV9XeIeyLqSyowboNO4jxemmW3RaGbbhf1fc1459xGWBr7kzSAVLFqDaPitApP5C93uRZheMGWcIuwn85CaUPeV1yMHdWBd90lfeGJuqUI0omRyqcRQbHsmbNtIGbnkS7ozu-OYdROy5ZFE8_vty/s1600/Broomstick_Witch.jpg)

I was trying to do something a bit interesting with the perspective, looking 'up' at the character as she flies by. Might have overdone it with the background a bit though.

This was actually the second variant, having done a landscape version first:

IMAGE(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3HIeMuaKV7o7bJ8uNn2T7Lmkx-fXMurFnoc0ljHLtk4cf6I7XGKyIpFLkPjld00X4_CsdUMmMmbha0zjOCgIYFkxn4c5_98eaA465h7Mu6ZpYPO2vpFVfpQNTVqm9U21W-7lIQef0R2GhkbW6zbD8Y3ZwzQ8YGEkj8lJ2IhqAioX8Vm28gw4bprQsC1rY/s1600/Broomstick_Witch%202.jpg)

I think the portrait version might be a bit more dramatic?
(Portrait drawings also tend to fit better into vertically-oriented media feeds...)

Very cool, Ravanon!

I do like the portrait version better, yes. You did a great job on the perspective, so there is nothing to "fix," but I would consider having a background that helps sell the idea instead of the (admittedly cool) abstract background. For instance, some houses in perspective. I mean, this would only entail having to work on the drawing for several more hours!

Talking about working on something for hours, now that school is out and I have lots of free time, I am thinking I want to try to do some more elaborate drawings instead of my usual fast sketches, so let's see what happens over the next few weeks!

That said, here's a 20-minute masterpiece I just drew:

Ha!

I started watching X-Men '97, and this happened:

(It's not even dry yet. I can see big water drops on the page, haha.)

It looked cooler in my head, but I had so much fun playing with the inks and the brushes!
