Weekly Drawing Prompt Thread

Yeah, there’s something intrinsically relaxing about drawing / painting a good tree. Possibly it’s because you can go a bit off-the-rails without destroying the inherent “treeness”. They were one of my favourite things to doodle in meetings.

One of the other things about them that I love is they get more interesting the closer you get to them.
Their organic nature seems chaotic until you look at how everything is building on top of what came before, desperately trying to balance itself as it reaches for the sun. Patterns on top of patterns.

Thinking of it now, it reminds me of a sitting ballerina balancing on one foot as she stands and gradually unfolds over 75 years.

Even with that tree, which is based in n a photo, I lost track and missed out bumps or branches but it doesn’t matter because, as you say, it hasn’t lost it’s essential treeness.

Here's my annual anniversary drawing for my wife:

And the finished version:

Doing all those tiles took a while!

Lovely!

Very nice.

Just out of curiosity Mario, how did you go about doing the mosaic effect for lizard(?)'s scales?

Thank you!

As for my secret tile technique, I colored the dragon, and then went over his whole body with my white pen:

It took a while!

Oof. I was hoping you'd discovered some clever shortcut...

I wish, but it was just the time-honored technique of doing everything by hand no matter how long it takes.

Phrasing!

Finally finished Dragon Ball. It was lots of fun!

Hehe nice. I have a drawing underway. Hopefully I’ll get it done soon.

We want to see it!

I hadn't drawn anything for a couple of weeks, and my fingers were itching to go back to the page!

Hmm one of these years I'll have the nerve to post something I do based on the prompts.

This is my drawing based on Signalis, a survival horror game that uses ambiguity to extraordinary effect, leaving you to try and work out what exactly is going on. I wanted to create an image that was equally ambiguous. I suspect I may have succeeded.

That looks awesome, Higgledy!

And yes, you should, MaxShrek!

Here's a quick Trunks ball-point pen sketch I did today. No reference, no shame, no nothing!

Thanks Mario I am very pleased with the result. Must admit.

I’m now considering a portrait of a character from God of War: Ragnarok.

Yeah, that Signalis drawing is really good.

I've got another drawing in progress based on something I drew on the train this weekend, which I decided I ought to finish properly. More of the same for me, but it breaks the dry spell I've been having since my last posted artwork.

Thanks Ravanon. I seem to have finally gotten into gear. Here is a drawing of Týr from the recent God of War saga.

Super awesome, Higgledy! One day I'll get around to playing that game, I'm sure of it!

As for myself, here's another quick ball-point pen sketch. This time, it's one of my students. I don't know if he would be delighted or horrified, hahaha.

You’d enjoy it I’m sure.

Yeah, tricky to test the waters with that sketch. Probably best they remain blissfully unaware of their caricature! (Although more than likely they’d be pleased with it.)

I loved the "first" God of War and the first Horizon, but I haven't gotten around to playing the sequels. Maybe this summer... when I also want to play RE Village and RE4 Remake? I already know there won't be enough time!

As for the drawing, there's no way I'm showing it to him. He's an artist, though, so he might appreciate it... but nope.

Hmm... tasty Tatzelwurm.

I drew another lady (I really need to find a new project...), based on the aforementioned sketch on the train.

Like a couple of drawings back, I did a few colour variants which I've posted on my blog so as to not spam the thread.

Very nice. I like the side view and the positions of the hands.

I played RE4 Remake recently. It was superb. God of War: Ragnarok is fantastic. The more I think about it the more fond I am of it.

Awesome as usual, Ravanon!

As for RE4 Remake, I really want to play it! The only RE game I've ever played is RE2 Remake, and I loved it. I just need more free time, is all!

On a completely unrelated note, here's another quick sketch I drew today. It always feel weird to draw characters with a very specific look in a different style, but I felt like doing just that with Vegeta while I was in a meeting today, and this is what happened:

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/qVrPrz5.jpg)

I like it better than the Trunks sketch from a couple of days ago!

Nice!

Coincidentally, my next RE game is going to be RE2 Remake. I started it just after RE4 but thought two in a row might be a bit much and now several other games have shouldered their way into the scheduling gap. Definitely planning to play it this year.

I have a number of drawings on the go now

Nice! I'm sure you'll love RE2 Remake, and I think you were smart in not playing both RE games back to back --you probably needed a palate cleanser... or five.

I didn't mention it above, but since we're talking about horror games, I've had The Quarry and Dredge since Christmas, and I've been dying to check them out. I'm hoping I can start one of them this weekend!

I'm also hoping to see some of those drawings soon!
