Weekly Drawing Prompt Thread

This Friday is October 1st (already, I know), and so I've been thinking about what to do regarding Inktober/other art projects like the prompts I myself posted here a couple of weeks ago. In the end, I have decided to do my own thing because that's what will motivate me the most. I am going to use an idea for a comic book I had almost fifteen years ago, and I am going to turn it into a series of drawings --31 to be precise. More on that on Thursday.

Also, I'm looking forward to seeing what you friends come up with!

Nice!

And jesus, its October already?!

"The 30 Trials of the BattleShrimp" begin tomorrow! I made a doodle of this unlikely character about 15 years ago, and have only done about five or six drawings of the heroic arthropod since. I would love to do a whole comic (or a videogame!) about his adventures, but a series of illustrations during the month of October will have to suffice... I just hope I can actually produce one a day. In any case, I hope I have a blast, and I hope you friends enjoy the silliness that's about to ensue.

Can't wait to see the tussles with the real scum and filth of the underwater!

You know, if I was the kind of person who'd place bets on what I thought Mario was going to do next, I'd lose a lot of money...

Hmm... [eyes current date nervously] I suppose I could do the Arttrober thing referred to last page. I don't usually do fanart, but it could be instructive for character design purposes.

Neither can I! I only have a vague idea of what I want to do for a few of the drawings, so it is also going to be surprising for me.

Hahaha. I just have very, very eclectic tastes and wide-ranging interests. Also, I wanted to do something completely different from "December Deadline," and this fits the bill.

That would be cool. That said, if you want to contribute to the adventures of the Battle Shrimp, I'm not going to stop you. A Ravanon-drawn-and-colored Battle Shrimp would look pretty awesome, if you ask me...

Well, Arttober does allow for a free pick on the 31st...

DEAL!

Right! The first 'Arttrober' prompt was Zero from Drakengard 3, a game I haven't played.

So here we go:

Okay, that took far too long this evening to keep up every day. So look forward to a clear drop in the quality of all future images this month!

I've never played any Drakengard games myself, so I have no idea who the character is, but it looks awesome!

Here's mine:

On his first trial, the Battle Shrimp outswam the shark of Sharthia. And I don't know why "outswam" appears to not be a word --it should be!

This also took way too long, so be ready for the possibility that not every drawing will be in color.

Is there a particular pattern to the trials?

The next Arttrober prompt is "Baal Genshin", which apparently is a character from Genshin Impact?! Well, I'm drawing her anyway.

I haven't played Genshin Impact either, but that looks awesome as well!

As for the trials, no, there is no pattern --it's whatever I come up with and feel like I have time to draw that day.

On his second trial, the Battle Shrimp tamed the Octopus of Oceara...

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/0IUaDSH.jpg)

... and took too long doing it. Tomorrow's drawing will probably be in color as well because it's Sunday, but starting on Monday I might just need to do black and white until next weekend. We'll see...

I expect a detailed backstory for Battle Shrimp's magic chain.

The prompt for October 3rd was "Lady Loki". I've heard of Loki!

IMAGE(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjx63flz7eUwcmv6Hd125FE1RraU80lJGFbTT2I61KXKxaf4-yXsGTDjKCSXuydEPuoGHbxSH2lgrC5YKt0YtuIQidI8_7i7zqGlcDQDUELvY2Ne5589ihk-aXuJSiRVvUPAwCRS1SBX_0gdk_H6D2B2Hk_ObxA77BJlXQGJPgF8VYT4sV86BaRnSg7Qw)

Haha, I read that as "I have come up with a detailed back story for Battle Shrimp's magic chain: Lady Loki."

For CREATober (a DMs Guild based october list) I thought i'd do something simple with the hope that i'll actually get through it this year (despite having even LESS time to work on it!)

So i'm doing one dungeon encounter area per prompt, building up into one huge dungeon map...

Days 1 - 3 below (Deserted Cemetery, Spider Web and Shadow)

and the overall progress...

Actually, I think that's exactly what the back story should be: Lady Loki gave the Battle Shrimp the magic chain to help him fight evil. (And awesome Lady Loki, Ravanon!)

The true story is that, as I was coloring the chain, I messed up and colored outside of the lines like a child, but then I saw it looked cool because it looked like that bit of the chain was glowing, and decided to do the whole chain like that. Very prosaic, I know.

As for today's drawing... "On his third trial, the Battle Shrimp fended off the Toad Triad..." Not to be confused with the Battle Toads!

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/wQiimQi.jpg)

(I swear the Battletoads didn't even cross my mind until I was coloring them. I was trying to choose three different colors so that the toads would look different from one another... "like the Battletoads." Then I groaned.)

In any case, I hope you like it. I can't promise colors tomorrow, but we'll see what happens.

Wonderful work everyone!

In other news, reports are coming in that the Toad Triad is not bad or evil in the purest sense. They just kept wanting to call Battle Shrimp "Scampi". (instead of BS, of course!)

I'm just realising how large Battle Shrimp must be, relative to toads and other things.

It's good to see more of Pyxistyx's mapwork on the thread.

Meanwhile, the next Arttrober prompt is Mikey from Tokyo Revenger:

IMAGE(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgg4dF9AYphT-Nf8X7TJjYOJ0KoNvFicbJY0pn2wkoGBWtMJjNfniuOHliRhvfXVwJ_zEeRgPR7HdMhuqQyBGjxzRaF55qgkzbjG7HOVCavkq-6mY6YPS6VcZVls5oEe-72M6kOCwkreY7tEAmVJjQQzMMGReTBhdfD9u3wSUkfTa9wIUt1vciNaot-iQ)

Who is this guy? I did a bit of research, and apparently he's some kind of gang leader, and Tokyo Revenger involves time travel? Well whatever—I can draw him anyway.

Very cool Mikey from Tokyo Revenger, a property I had never even heard of before!

As for the Battle Shrimp, I confess I am not sure of his size...

This made me laugh out loud!

Anyway, drawing coming later today. I'm still at work...

On his fourth trial, the Battle Shrimp retrieved the Pearl of Passaidos.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/mCpbxzN.jpg)

Got it done in two hours, which is sustainable. Let's see what happens tomorrow...

Passaidos cursed its lack of limbs and was only able to snatch an inch of Battle Shrimp's cape in return. The seas echoed with the creature's wallowing. (BS was also able to pilfer the cape scrap back later that evening)

I think that's exactly how it happened!

The next two Creatober prompts :

"Talisman"

IMAGE(https://smackfolio.files.wordpress.com/2021/10/creatober-map-update-4.jpg)

and "Animal Skeleton"

IMAGE(https://smackfolio.files.wordpress.com/2021/10/creatober-map-update-5.jpg)

And that's the first little section of dungeon done

Overall progress...

Very cool, pyxistyx!

Okay, here's one I know about! Still haven't played the game in question though.

Next prompt, the goddess Nyx from 'Hades':

Love the color!

Very cool, Ravanon! I know Hades as well (of course), but I've never played it.

Question: how long does it take you to color one of your drawings?

As for my drawing...

On his fifth trial, the Battle Shrimp vanquished the Morays of Malignades.

Also, Ravanon, I was thinking, given the way you color and your love of fantasy you should check out the comic book Isola if you haven't already. It is one of my favorite series, and the artwork is to die for. I wish I could color like Msassyk!
