Welcome folks, and happy “Anniversary of Adam Yauch’s (MCA from the Beastie Boys) birthday” week! You may all celebrate by remembering his lyrics from Sure Shot in 1993:

"I want to say a little something that's long overdue/ The disrespect to women has got to be through/ To all the mothers and sisters and the wives and friends/ I want to offer my love and respect to the end".

DC Universe Online goes free to play this week – will anybody notice? New players will be able to start with a high-level character, which might just annoy the 3 people who have been carrying the torch for this underrated, ill-fated MMO.

The excellent Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition makes its way to the Switch this week. Hopefully, they picked a bigger font size than the PS4 version had. You’d look pretty silly playing this on public transport while trying to balance a microscope on your lap.

Metal Wolf Chaos XD is a remaster of 2004‘s Metal Wolf Chaos. Back then, the Xbox was struggling in Japan and Microsoft hired a Japanese developer to help turn that around. They picked the plucky Armored Core devs, FromSoftware, who pitched a 3rd-person mech shooter. Microsoft liked it, but insisted that the game have “Western themes” so it could still sell in the US; that’s why the American President is piloting your mech. Despite FromSoftware festooning the game with stars’n’stripes, Microsoft didn’t end up releasing it in the West… until the West had a mechannaissance 14 years later. And here we are. By all accounts the mech combat is fun if you can stomach the OTT jingoism.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall is this week’s GOTW. Planetfall takes the series from a fantasy setting to sci-fi. The starting list of factions is quite diverse, and it seems like they took the fantasy factions from earlier games and reimagined them for space. There’s Amazonian warriors who ride laser-shooting dinosaurs, swarming battlebugs, necromantic vat-clones, and a sneaky Syndicate (when are they remaking THAT game?).

Paradox is publishing this one, but don’t expect a Stellaris clone. It is a turn-based, 4X game, but plays out on a planet’s surface, as the name suggests. You have an overworld map, and when combat begins, you zoom to a tactical map for some XCom-lite combat. Paradox has a good reputation for post-release support, so there’s likely some chunky expansions in the wings.

Here's the list, now in release-date order!

DCUO hadn't gone F2P yet? Wow, I'm beyond shocked at that.

I’m more shocked that it’s still got active servers.
