Games That Don’t Have a Thread Catch-All

Although there’s no difficulty settings, the vibe of the combat is clicking with me better than, say, Elden Ring, where I played a sorcerer to avoid all those parry and stamina mechanics.

I think it’s because you are playing more aggressively, and cheese is built into the game, eg the first spell you learn is one that freezes any enemy, even bosses, for a time so you can wail on them. It rules.

I like the look of the bosses in Wukong more than in Elden Ring and I’ve realised that I need to be into a boss, visually and mechanically, in order to stick with it.

Also, I enjoy having a few cheesy abilities in my back pocket.

I thought Ender Lilies had it's own thread, but cannot find it. Anyways, I'm enjoying it despite the lack of color. The music and smoothness of combat and movement make up for it. There are multiple 'endings' but Ending A doesn't even feel like an ending. I've got 1 or 2 more areas to explore and a decent amount of mopping up. If you are a metroidvania fan, you owe it to yourself to play this one.

It's 'free' on PSPlus this month too!

Nice. So no reason for someone with that service not to give it a go. Playing on PC over here.

Ender Lilies didn't have its own thread, but it got a lot of discussion in the last few pages of the Metroidvania thread.

I realized that was where I saw the discussion about 5 minutes after I hit post here. Thanks for the redirect.

I'm actually enjoying Black Myth a lot. I don't play a lot of Souls games (only Sekiro and Elden Ring), but I'd say the difficulty is just slightly easier than either of those (maybe on par with Sekiro). Without a death penalty though, dying isn't near as frustrating. The visuals are absolutely stunning. Running silky smooth at max settings on my PC, I haven't seen anything like it.

I think I'm at the end of Chapter 2... That stupid boss I feel like I can dodge 80% of his moves but there are a few moves it does that I just can't figure out the dodge timing and every time I end up dead with about 1/3 of its life left.

Anyone looking forward to Space Marine 2?

I've never played a single WH40K game before and know nothing of the universe, but was suggested a gameplay video last week and was very intrigued by what I saw. Looked extremely visually impressive at least, and seems like it's right up my alley.

It does look incredible. Apparently the story is shaping up well. I’m interested but probably won’t get it at launch unless someone I play with fancies playing it co-op.

Black Myth not releasing on time on Xbox is one of the most disappointing game situations for me in a long time. Made worse by the fact that there's no definitive explanation on why and no date on when to expect it. I don't own a PS5 or gaming PC so just sitting on the bench watching everyone enjoy it.

Space Marine 2 isn't on my radar BUT I've been surprised at how many 40k games I've gotten into in the last few years that are legit solid - in my mind, Games Workshop had a long and storied history of bullshit videogame adaptations, but that really does seem to have changed in latter years.

And like you, I only had a passing familiarity with, and no nostalgia for, 40k (closest I came was Warhammer Fantasy tabletop RPG).

One speculation is MSFT requires any XBOX title to be playable on Series S in order to pass compliance. I'm pretty sure Black Myth is a UE5 title and getting any sort of performance on Series S if they want it look half decent is probably next to impossible, and could even harm the brand if they were to somehow get out a 30FPS version with still bad graphics. That Series S policy really is a barrier. On one hand gamers want developers to push the envelope, on the other one of the two big console makers decides to force developers to effectively run on a last-gen system.

EDIT: I did see an article that MSFT is claiming there was an exclusivity deal. Perfectly possible, I think in the Steam version there's reference to Sony/Playstation's privacy and data policies.

Also, that Series S requirement is still a pain

I'm really hoping space marine 2 comes out of the gate strong. definitely reading reviews, watching a few streams and not preording. but i really enjoyed the first one despite it's clunkyness. if they can improve the combat flow i'm VERY interested.
Also gotta give the original credit, they did glory kills long before doom 2016.

The MP for SM1 was surprisingly awesome. I am super stoked for SM2.

I'm waiting for reports on Space Marine 2 because I am very nervous about the combat mechanics. The fact that they added dodges and parries and "health potions" makes it much, much less attractive to me. My concerns could be addressed by detailed information about the difficulty settings, but I am definitely not in the market for a "soulslike" shooter, even if it is only barely soulslike. I don't like those kinds of games. It has been a very frustrating ten years for me watching soulslike after soulslike come out. I like action-adventure games, but more and more of them are adopting combat mechanics that exclude me.

That looks super fun.

Interesting premise. I'll check it out.

I really like the concept. Fingers crossed it’s good.

That does look fun, but the craziest part is seeing Konami publishing games again!

Shogun Showdown launched today, and after an hour with it, it's a neat little tactical deckbuilder that plays out on a 1.5d plane (i.e. you can move left and right and change facing).

The gorgeous indie Selfloss is out today. This has been on my wishlist for a while. Artsy exploration game rooted in Slavic myth. And 5% of revenue goes to the charity Whale and Dolphin Conservation!
