I had a Power Pad and the one included game, World Class Track Meet (aka Stadium Events).
Proper long jump form was to jump off the pad entirely, wait a while, then jump back onto the pad.
I can't remember if we rented/borrowed it but we played with a power pad for a bit when I was younger. The honest best way to do it was to kneel in front of it and pound the pad buttons with your fists.
Started Little Goody Two Shoes on a whim today. I have to say, the 80's anime VHS filter and aesthetics are really hitting all the right spots for me. I think I might move this game into my main rotation for the remainder of the year along with the Club games I'm chipping away at.
The search and google yield no thread for this, so I might start one in the coming days.
I am super enjoying nobody wants to die. Thanks for the recommend. I already made a decision I regret in the game. Almost to the point of restarting it. The detective work and reconstruction stuff is really well done, but there are a few bugs in it still. Not enough for me to wait on a patch or anything, but still annoying when they happen. Getting stuck in a character while reconstructing and being unable to see the button presses is hard.
I moved to a street in a new neighborhood at the end of 1st grade where all but a few of the houses had elementary aged (almost all boys) kids. Everyone had an NES with a zapper, and one house had a power pad. No R.O.B.'s to be found, though. Eventually, I was the kid with the Super Scope (SNES bazooka) and I put it to good use with the Metal Combat games, especially the 2nd one which I loved.
The power pad only got occasional use. There were just too many other better games, and such a good spread of games between all the houses. No one had a massive collection, though.

I'm getting wistful over here hahaha. I think the most games on the NES I ever owned was maybe 10 or 12, but they rotated either by trades with friends or by trading them in at a local store that was the opposite of Gamestop when it comes to the prices for trade-in value. Only about 6 or 7 of those games was every actually new... From memory, I had both Zelda's, Friday the 13th - yes, I actually liked it and still do! - Conquest of the Crystal Palace, Battletoads, TMNT III, Final Fantasy, Predator and of course the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt pack-in. From the used games that made it through the revolving door that was my NES Game drawer, Metal Storm, Shadow of the Ninja, and W.U.R.M. were probably my favorites and they ended up being part of my permanent collection.
I only ever knew two kids who had a lot of games. One was the friend I mentioned in a previous post - the one whose dad was a huge Nintendo hobbyist and had just about everything for it- and another who went to my same elementary whose parents were both surgeons and kept buying him new games. I got a lot of loaners from him.
When the SNES came around and I finally managed to get one, games were a much rarer thing to own, for me, and I think I only ever owned maybe 5 games back then. My parents only ever got me 1 game - things had gotten tougher economically for a few reasons in the 90's for us -, another was a gift from a visiting relative, and the others I saved up for by doing odd jobs as a teen is wont to do. In Costa Rica, due to the heavy taxation on imports, games were about double their MSRP tag in the US. Getting an SNES game was no joke investement-wise hehehe. Heaven forbid you got a dud.
Just put my first couple of hours into SteamWorld Heist 2 I loved the first game and this feels like a great update of it. It’s just the right amount of cozy 2d X Com light and hat collecting. Heartily recommended so far.
From the team that made CrossCode. Looks great.
bbk1980, great! I bout SteamWorld Heist 2 this morning. Loved the first game.
Thank Goodness You're Here!
A super weird and stylized adventure game of sorts. Incredible absurd with fun little gags as you interact with everything. Very light and breezy and probable it's only weakness is that it's rather short. Was the perfect sort of game while I was sick and just trying to relax and think that hard. Highly recommended.
Knock on the Coffin Lid
Man this one was disappointing. It's a really high quality slay the spire/across the obelisk style game. It looks amazing, great art, cutscenes, and voice acting. Story seemed interesting with a neat setting. The game design is rubbish though. It's what happens when you copy a game's mechanics without understanding the design. As opposed to stealing them and making it your own.
There's chance for it to become a good game. But I basically ended every single run frustrated by the design. So I bounced.
... Metal Storm, ... were probably my favorites and they ended up being part of my permanent collection.
A worthy addition to your permanent collection. I imagine it would be infuriating to a newcomer today. One of the kids I hung out with the most on my block had that game. Between that, Mega Man 2, and Dr. Mario, I have quite a few good memories.
This looks like fun.
My interest in Stalker 2 is growing. I miss these kinds of gritty and atmospheric, singleplayer shooters.
My expectation level for STALKER 2 and the “revived” GSC Game World were low before the NFT thing, then they hit zero after that.
If the game manages to be a worthy STALKER game, I’ll be in, but I am expecting trash and won’t pay attention to anything about the game until it arrives.
Tactical Breach Wizards is coming out in a few days.
Anyone jumping in? XCOM-esque blow up baddies except your operators are witches and wizards.
Demo is available on steam.
I'm putting on my robe and wizard hat.
It’s on my wishlist but it’s a busy week with both Guild Wars 2 and WoW getting new expansions.
Gotta spend next week in a beachfront hotel wifh my in laws (i really don't like the beach or get along great with my in laws) TBW is gonna be my escape on my steam deck. Really looking forward to it.
Drill Core is a lot of fun. It has a demo on Steam.
Nice bonus, Tactical Breach Wizards carries over progress from the demo. really enjoying it in the half hour i've messed around with it so far. gotta love snarky dialogue and the tactical gameplay is fun.
I love Tactical Breach Wizards. I hadn't played either of Tom Francis' earlier games (Gunpoint and Heat Signature) but I remembered him from PC Gamer and Rock Paper Shotgun back in the day, and I always found him funny then. He's still got it. The first two acts of TBW have given me plenty of chuckles.
It gives you a lot of tools to the point it almost feels overwhelming but not quite. It's a very clever balancing act. Excellent stuff, would recommend.
Oh, and Steve Clarke is a dick.
You should absolutely have a crack at Gunpoint, and to only a slightly lesser degree, Heat Signature. He's on my list of definitely-try-sight-unseen developers.
I started Tactical Breach Wizards a couple days ago and it is fantastic. Absolutely hitting the spot right now, and the levels are just the right length.

My goodness Gunpoint there's a classic! It was so damn creative & fun. I didn't know Tactical Breach Wizards was by the same guy, I'll keep an eye on it coming to PS5.
So, the Nindie direct was pretty nifty, what with the announcement of Trails in the Sky the 1st, a remake. There were a few standouts for me, but most importantly, in the Japanese direct, Stray Children had a new trailer and a release date of December 26. According to the devs' newsletter, English versions should be coming in 2025. As a fan of Moon RPG, this is one I won't miss getting day 1.
I'm surprised there's no buzz around here for Black Myth: Wukong. Maybe everyone is too busy playing it
I'm loving it!
The mechanics sit between Souls and God of War: There's bonfire-type checkpoints, but no corpse-running. You have a stamina bar, and light and heavy attacks, but combos work a little differently: you can't do heavy attacks until you've built up focus, either by perfect dodging, landing light attacks or charging your heavy attack. This generally encourages aggressive play, especially when you get a skill that lets you charge your heavy attack as you run toward an enemy. Parrying is in the game, but not from the get-go. It's a separate branch of the skill tree and has a cooldown, so you have to build out your Monkey specifically if you want to parry. I'm ignoring it and trying to perfect my dodging.
The boss fights are frequent and such fun that I don't mind repeating them when I die -- the checkpointing is generous so there's usually a respawn point right next to a boss fight. The graphics are AWESOME, the story is oblique. I'm up to Chapter 3 (out of 6) and still using the starting stance, which already has me thinking about a NG+ run with a whole new stance.
Anyone else out there enjoying this?
Most of the chat about it has been about the sexist history of the developer, not the game itself, so you wouldn't see it if you don't go into D&D.
Ahhhh, I do not go to D&D.
I heard about some of the incidents on Remap Radio after I'd already downloaded the game ... not good.
I know everybody's line is different when it comes to enjoying art with problematic content or creators. In this case, I didn't know much about the allegations before playing. I was super enjoying the game before I heard details of the incidents. Then when I did hear, it seemed like behaviour from mostly one senior guy at the studio, and the game content itself isn't egregiously problematic, so it was easy for me to tune it out and keep playing.
Glad you’re enjoying it Felix. Looks phenomenal from what I’ve seen and not quite as intimidating as it sounded. Apart from that one guy… and that other dude…

Although there’s no difficulty settings, the vibe of the combat is clicking with me better than, say, Elden Ring, where I played a sorcerer to avoid all those parry and stamina mechanics.
I think it’s because you are playing more aggressively, and cheese is built into the game, eg the first spell you learn is one that freezes any enemy, even bosses, for a time so you can wail on them. It rules.
