To me summer usually means it’s time to play the year’s big Open World Game That Everyone Unfairly Agrees Is Mediocre.
In 2016 it was The Division, which got a lot of patches but got a lukewarm reception at the time.
In 2017 it was Agents of Mayhem, which released in August and therefore counts as a summer game. It was awesome.
Last year it was Far Cry 5, which is much better than anyone gives it credit for for reasons that don’t seem to involve the actual game in any way.
This year it’s Days Gone, which is actually just Horizon Zero Dawn with a different skin, but nobody seems to have noticed.

Yes, you can cancel Darksiders, but only by using your Sony Golds. Which, while pretty good, aren't a patch on Zelda.

How far from the mic did Cory run when Allen make the Kirby joke?
Also: next week is Episode 666!
I wish you guys would stop encouraging him.

I'm confused about the thing Cory said concerning the Watch Dogs 2 mission with the Chinese dude in a shipping container being part of a DLC. I've been playing the game a lot lately and only have the base game, and I ran into that scenario myself. Is it greatly expanded in one of the DLCs, maybe?

I don't think it was me saying that -- I was pretty sleep deprived, tbh -- but I'm guessing we just misspoke.
Look, we're not podcasting so we can be held accountable for the things we say. That's crazy talk.

I guess it was Zenke (sp?) perhaps. BTW whoever it was never did say the name of the DLC he was talking about before that. I realize that there are only two in the Season Pass (major ones, anyway).

The games that make me feel like it’s summer are the card and board games I remember playing during family vacations when I was a kid.
Uno, Racko, Mille Bournes, Yahtzee, Connect Four, Battleship and Perfection are the ones that immediately come to mind.
Oh, and what’s now known as the Cracker Barrel Peg game (Peg Solitare), but I had one that was plastic and plus-shaped, that I always took on long car rides. And Hit and Missile, which was kind of a mechanical Space Invaders.
Edit: it was called Hi-Q

Oh, the other thing that summer gaming meant to me was more frequent trips to the arcade.
My Dad was a big fan of using other people’s air conditioning, so we’d go see movies and visit the arcade in the mall. I played a LOT of Area 51, Rolling Thunder, Stun Runner and that sort of thing.
The best summer ever was that year they opened the nickel arcade. It cost two bucks to get in, but most of the machines only cost five cents to play (the expensive ones charged a dime), and there was a wall of older machines set to free play.
I’ll say it again; best summer ever.

There was that summer when my brother broke his ankle and we stayed inside all summer playing Street Fighter 2.
There was that first summer after college, when I broke my gaming fast by playing Alpha Centauri in between getting lots of overtime at a temp job.
There were a few years (2009-2012 I think) when I always bought MLB the Show and played Road to the Show mode all summer.
There was that moment in August 2017 when the Switch began staying in stock long enough for casuals like me to find it. I think I started Breath of the Wild on the day of the eclipse.
The game franchise I would rescue would be Trackmania. Easily the best arcade/stunt racer out there, has been around forever, but they spend $0 marketing it. The PS4 version was updated a grand total of 1 time, and it is missing features like car customization that the original game had 5+ years ago. The graphics are fine, the controls are tight, the trackmaker is awesome, and the core gameplay is great. Give me control and one year, and I think I could have it in top 10 Twitch stream list...

There was the summer of '90, when 13-year old Jon had open heart surgery the week after school broke up, and spent most of the summer laid up in bed convalescing, playing the Mega Drive (i.e. Genesis) that my best bud lent me for the summer. That was pretty rad.
My contemporary summer gaming story comes courtesy of last night, when I had to stop playing Beat Saber because the floor had gotten too slippery with sweat.
You've never known true joy until you've shaken a lich stick at someone.
I just want to say that I have spent a not insignificant amount of time pondering what I'd like to do, given the opportunity, with the Everquest franchise. For a while I really wanted an Everquest sequel that drew heavily from Monster Hunter
I don't know if I've heard Cory host before, he's so good! Nice job man!
Aww, thanks!
