Welcome folks, and happy “45th anniversary of Chinatown” week! You may all celebrate by replaying the back half of L.A. Noire.

The Sims 4: Island Living plonks your Sims onto a tropical island, where they can kick back and wait for the rising oceans to engulf them all embrace a holiday lifestyle of swimming, fishing and tanning. This will probably be the biggest seller of the week.

Devolver Digital is publishing My Friend Pedro, a side-scroller where your inexplicably banana-themed avatar shoots two guns while doing plenty of cool flips and getting bullets to ricochet off of stuff. It seems designed for 1-minute highlight reels.

Steel Division 2 is an RTS with a troubled history. Eugen Systems, who made the first Steel Division and the under-rated R.U.S.E., were working on this title until their workers went on strike last year, essentially over crunch-related issues about unpaid overtime. Did I mention the company is French, and they have relatively robust, pro-employee labour laws over there? The strike ended, labour court claims were lodged, and Eugen Systems broke with Paradox, the original game’s publisher. Now, a year later, they’re putting out Steel Division 2 under their own banner. The actual game focuses on Operation Bagration, the Soviet offensive in 1944 that smashed the Germans and put the Red Army within marching distance of Berlin.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is led by Koji Igarashi, who was the producer of the Castlevania series from 2001-2010. So he’s kinda like the Ronnie James Dio of Castlevania. Anyhoo, his involvement has garnered Bloodstained the title of “Spiritual Successor” to Castlevania. Pity it’s a management sim. Just kidding! It’s totally a Castlevania-type game.

I’ve seen enough games described as “Lovecraftian” to know that it’s shorthand for “sanity meter”. Usually, when a game wears Lovecraft too proudly on its sleeve, I wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole, but there’s something about The Sinking City that appeals. Firstly, I like the idea of exploring a half-submerged city. Secondly, I like the idea of an investigative game where you can solve the cases in different ways. And thirdly, the devs are the ones who made the Sherlock Holmes games—all 8 of them—so they’ve got some chops in the genre. I have no idea how good the combat elements are, but consider this the one Lovecraftian horror game for the year to which I’ll give a GOTW nod.

Here's the list, now in release-date order!

Oh, this is Bloodstained week? Finally! Pleeeeeeeeease be good. I so want it to be good.

Huh why isn't Bloodstained listed for Switch? Oh it comes out next week there.

Bah.

I already got the other $10 Bloodstained game on Switch and it was pretty good.

That's a hell of a header image.

Pity it’s a management sim. Just kidding! It’s totally a Castlevania-type game.

But it is a management sim.

You manage the quantity of blood that's inside of your enemies.

Sadly, looks like The Sinking City is June 27th.

So good it's gonna take the GOTW two weeks in a row!

What? It's a great image. Was there a better one that escaped my notice? If so, bring on the awesomeness.

Eh, I’m not actually that sad. It’s just that I spent the last couple of years creating custom headers that mostly flew under the radar. (Shrugs)

No worries, and no I’ll feelings. It is a great image.
