NCAA College Football 2019-20: Official Thread

Nashville is about a five hour drive for me, so I thought about making the trip to see the Dawgs. So did a bunch of other Dawg fans and the average ticket price is north of $150. I'll be watching from home.

Damn they're putting football on ESPN+ now? I thought it was just for baseball and smaller sports that no one cared about.

Hotel prices up here are pretty high right now, too.

They've been moving a ton of soccer over there, too. It's really obnoxious to me that they want you to have a fully-equipped cable package plus their ala carte offering to get all their content.

In other news, solid win for the Ags. Secondary had a ton of INTs and some PBUs, so maybe we don't suck eggs against the pass like we did last year? We'll get a great look at that next week vs Clemson.

I went cold turkey on cable and streaming. I was spending $40+/month for Hulu w/ live TV until I realized that (a) I was the only person in my house using it, (b) most boxing and UFC is on ESPN+ and (c) I can get plenty of college football without it. Also (d) I managed somehow to steam all of the Clemson/GT game last night without paid access to the ACC Network. >.>

Anyway, I'll be keeping tabs on:

E Tenn St at App State: My first game w my new adopted team. These two schools used to play when App was in the SoCon. Should be an easy win for the Mountaineers.

Lafayette at W&M: The Mike London Era begins at W&M after the 80-year reign (more or less) of Jimmye Laycock. Here's hoping the Tribe can score more than two TDs against a team that hasn't won more than four games a season since 2014. (True fact: Lafayette is coached by the older brother of Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett.

Elon at N.C. A&T: Two ranked local teams. Should be a good game.

ECU at NC State: Good in-state rivalry. Wolfies should win easily (OR WILL THEY? It's hard to tell with State sometime).

USC at UNC: Mack Brown returns! Carolina (the real Carolina) starts a true freshman against an SEC team. SC probably wins this one.

Duke at Alabama: Hahaha, no I'm not going to watch this one. Duke is going to get stomped.

Sling TV just added ACC Network last night and the Clemson game was free there. Maybe it was free to some other providers too?

Dammit Purdue...

Go GO GATORS (Although they are not playing today).

Predictions for Oregon at Auburn?

I think Auburn, haven't heard too much press on Oregon.

Lots of Power 5 teams are struggling to handle their "warm up" games this morning.

Now posts since noon? What has happened to GWJ?

Watched both ABC games and was happy to see the SEC win both.

Anyone get a wellness check on Gumbie?

They're calling it "Rocky Bottom", which is damn fine wordsmithing.

If only Oregon hadn't choked away the game, Saturday would have been just about perfect for a Dawg fan; easy conference "road" win, and rivals all losing in humiliating fashion.

Well Cal won 27-13 in an extremely unsatisfying win against an FCS team. Cal actually started the game by fumbling away the opening kickoff, and were down 10-0 after 1.

The QB is just plain awful. If it were Madden, the offensive line gave him 8-9 seconds of pass protection and receiver X, Y, A button receivers were wide open and QB either pushed the B button, or waited until DBs caught up then pushed the button, or put over/under touch when he actually pressed the right button. Basically a C- QB would have gotten Cal at least 1 or 2 more scores all other things being equal.

On the plus side our RB carried for nearly 200 yards, but the fact that he got over 30 carries against an FCS team worries means there is no way he's making it through 12 games if we can't figure something else out.

Our OL which was a weakness last season performed well. It gave our QB time.. and every second of that was needed for him to finally see all of our open WRs. About those WRs.. the fact that they were getting open was great, but it was against an FCS team.

The D on paper didn't look good but ultimately after giving up 10 points in the 1st quarter shut only gave up 3 more points for the rest of the game.

Ugh. Had a real chance to take down USC.

All these brand new Fresno starters needed a game of pounding UC Davis before going up against someone like SC.

Welp, onto the task at hand: winning the Mountain West and taking down Boise.

All-Access Louisville Football was on ACC Network tonight and pretty awesome. Hyped for the game tomorrow now.

Hey Carlbear, I sent you a Pokemon Go gift from the Alabama game. Nothing to report other than it went as expected... man when Tua gets going it is like ideal example footage of how to run a play. I mean just so well executed...

We just need our linebackers to get up to speed.

Ha I saw it and sent you one back from the Cal game.

Any predictions, Stele? I’m glad ND gets UL before Satterfield’s had any time there. He seems likely to be a great coach.

I think we cover. Maybe even lead for a bit.

Hope we win. But not counting on it.

Go Cards!

Should have been tied at half, bad fumble on snap there, ugh. But wow we look like an actual football team. It's been a long time, 2 seasons at least.

Loving the effort.

Well... we covered. It's been like 13 or 14 games since we did that, 2 seasons back. I'll take it.

Self-inflicted turnovers on bad snaps or we would have been a lot closer.

Louisville played a great game...for about 1.5 quarters. BUT, they look like an excited, fast team now. Compared with where they were last year, they looked great!

ND? Not so much.

Good news: App State won easily over a I-AA school and faces Charlotte (an FCS school that's playing FBS football for some reason) at home Saturday. Gawd, I love pre-season college football.

Also good news: W&M actually scored 31 points - most in two calendar years. Mike London also managed to play 4 QBs. The QB who did the most damage was a skinny little freshman and Michael Vick cosplayer.

W&M plays at UVa on Saturday. It's a revenge game for London, but W&M should lose by about 30. Bronco Mendenhall has built a pretty decent football machine in C-ville. It's not George Welsh 2.0, but it's starting to trend in that direction.

Longhorns looked sloppy at times vs. LA Tech. Doesn't bode well for facing LSU this week. While I appreciate the win to open the season, there were some throws that should have (and will be) picked vs. a good opponent. Not to mention their inability to stop some of those drives. Tech is no powerhouse, and while the Horns held Tech scoreless for three quarters, watching the game it felt like with a little more skill or luck, Tech could have been in that game if not winning it.

I'll ride out the season like I always do, though. Low expectations so I'm pleasantly surprised when they do well.

12 years ago this week. Never gets old!

Edit: Here's the radio call, which makes this the best CFB win ever.

2nd best.. remember when it comes to CFB... there is The Play (aka the stanfurd band play), and everything else.

OK, I'll grant you that one. As much as I like the idea that an FCS team beat Michigan at their place, and as much as I love the App State radio call ("BLOCKED! BWAAAAAAA BWAAAAAAAAAAGH something something INSIDE THE BIG HOUSE......"), there's a reason it's called The Play.

Also, too, The Play has its own Wikipedia page. I bet John Elway is still mad about it.
