Joined! I've just added an auto-picked placeholder team for the moment. I'll come up with a name and pick my real players later.

Thanks for setting this up!

guess mine wasn't cool enough for y'all?

See, what we should have is one league where you try to put together the best fantasy team, and another where you try to put together the worst.

Oof, sorry juv3nal. Filthy skimmed right over it.

Bale was headed to China, and then RM blocked the move. If anyone knows what's going on over there, please, let us know.

Arsenal get linked with anyone where the cost is more than 30m I rate it as just transfer fluff.

So the Pepe rumors for 70+ made me laugh. Then they explain the fee is stretched over multiple years. Ok that's plausible but ya no way they still do it. Then the story gets picked up by BBC and who typically don't peddle pure trash.

Ok. Let's do this. Who needs defense anyways.

My read on it is Zidane would have been fine with it going through because getting his salary off the books would have meant he could bring in someone he wants, but the RM board wanted to get a transfer fee for him which wasn't part of the China deal, so they tanked it.

Mildly annoyed that Harvey Elliott left Fulham before I got to know pretty much anything about him beyond hype. Oh well.

I think this is true, plus the pre-season injuries they've had.

According to the Belgian press, the transfer of Anderlecht striker Ivan Santini to the same Chinese club (for 5 million EUR) blocked the Bale move. They're now at maximum foreign capacity.

Ah transfer news, you never cease to entertain...

The Spanish press are reporting it as ‘Bale’s family didn’t want to go to China’ but it’s fairly evident the board want/need some up front Transfer money from the deal.

I suspect it’s now a case that Bale will be at Real getting his golf handicap down

Real Madrid thinking they should get a fee for Bale is hilariously delusional. Bale at his wages is a negative value for every team (and I can't see him taking a paycut), Madrid should have to pay another team to buy him.

Yeah, unless they have some legitimate inquiries from other teams in the wings, they've blown their chance to get rid of him.

Apparently the deal is £20m year 1 with the remaining 52 being paid over the following 4 years.

Might seem like a reckless albatross but that's actually only 13m a year after. I'm just not sure how good Pepe actually is and what wages he's actually coming on. Might be even better if some of the fee is actually related to performance but I doubt that.

Sounds so clever I'm sure it will turn into a hoax peddled by his agent in 12hrs time.

Rumor has it they're adding a third bunk bed in Auba and Laca's room to stir some goal mojo

Most teams pay transfers in installments, Newcastle paying most of their transfers up front (until recently with the big signings) had been a novelty in football, and from a profit/loss (not cash) perspective the cost of the transfer is amortized over the life of the player's contract either way.

I've seen transfers break down because of difference in terms. (Arsenal and Celtic for Tierney currently).

I'm surprised about the length + weight. Of 72m 20 is a fraction and the 52 remaining over 4 years vs even 3 makes a difference.

Essentially all these things are working in Arsenals favor which is a surprise to me.

That video is exciting. He used the word Henry at the end. SQUUUUEEEEEEE

Hey hey.. new member here.

I am a Manchester United fan. I see Dybala is coming home. Lukaku bound to Juve now.

Pretty sure Dybala wasn't born in Manchester

Neither are their fans.

Ipswich brought a goalie in on loan. That's exciting.

Meanwhile, the Football League has suspended Bury's season-opening game against MK Dons after Bury failed to convince the EFL that they were financially viable.

Both Bury and Bolton start the season on negative twelve points after financial problems. Bolton did meet the EFL deadline for their evidence, so their game with Wycombe will go ahead.

Yowzers.

Pepe official at Arsenal. Massive coup especially considering how dysfunctional the management team was being painted + no funds.

7 days left. United apparently 80m take it or leave it offer for Maguire. They are the biggest ? Left of clubs. They need to do something now especially if Pogba drags until the end of August and still goes.

Oddly, this entire transfer season has seemed relatively muted. Like, there have been some big moves in pure $$$ terms, but I don't think there have been any "this is a game-changer" transfers, at least not that we know of right now.

Although, if FIFA and FM are right, Wolves just got a gem with Patrick Cutrone (although going from Milan to Wolverhampton must be a bit of a shock).

Biggest splash so far monetary wise and tipping the scales has been Griezmann? Unless I'm missing something.

That makes Pepe one of the larger flashier deals... You know it's a fairly muted transfer window if Arsenal are in the top 5 of big moves.

There is the Ajax pillaging but I see those as more for the future spends like Joao Felix.

Pogba
Lukaku
Bale
Sane maybe? all still go I think.

So is Emery's plan for Arsenal to score 10 goals a match? Lack of defensive bolstering means we're going to concede at least 5.

*Shrug*

I have no answer to this.

Better to be exciting then not though.

Malcom to Zenit
Maguire to United
Both look officially done. Might start the avalanche of last minute deals.

Spurs tried and failed to get Bruno Fernandes. Sporting wants at least 70 million.

I think Maguire's good, but at that fee I suspect Manchester United are expecting he'll be a transformational player like Van Dijk was for Liverpool and I don't think he's that.
