Welcome folks, and happy “16th Anniversary of Finding Nemo” week! You may all celebrate by saying “Maaate” approximately 3000 times.

There’s not much for me to get excited about this week, but that’s not to say one of your favourites wasn’t robbed.

Conan Unconquered is a survival RTS, where hordes of increasingly tough critters attack your stronghold. It looks pretty and has old-school RTS DNA; developer Petroglyph Games was originally forged by exiles from Westwood, and is also in the process of “remastering” Command & Conquer. Maybe this Conan game is a fundraiser for that project.

Speaking of RTS, Golem Gates is an RTS-meets-card-battle game (where’s that game genre generator when you need it?). It’s got high production values that deliver a techpunk aesthetic. Early Access reviews on Steam are mostly positive. I still don’t know how to play it.

Content Warning: The following paragraph is about cricket. US and Canadian readers are advised to skip ahead to the next paragraph.

There must be a big cricket series coming up because we have 2 cricket games coming out this week. Cricket 19 is the official game of the Ashes series by Aussie studio Big Ant Studios, who have been making cricket and Aussie-rules footy games for 10 years now. Cricket Captain 19 is a player management sim—the ONLY cricket player management sim—and in this instalment they’ve added slow-left-arm wrist spinners to the list of player types. Finally, Kuldeep Yadav becomes relevant to your rosters!

Warhammer: Chaosbane adds “Diablo-clone” to the list of Warhammer game genres. Is there a fictional universe with as much representation across all game genres as Warhammer? I think not.

I’ll give my GOTW to SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech. It comes off the Switch and Early Access and hits the other platforms this week. It’s a well-reviewed, turn-based, roleplaying card game with the signature SteamWorld style. It looks like the perfect palate-cleanser to play between big, plodding, story-heavy tentpole releases. The SteamWorld games are all solid in this way; perfect for a sick day or commute.

Here's the list, now in release-date order!

Comments

Things in interested in.
Vambrace: Cold Soul - Art looks cool (literally) and a dungeon crawler. Will wait for Switch though.

Void Bastards sounds good too. I want to watch quick look first.

I don't know Cricket very well, but I loooooove management sims and had no idea there's one for cricket. You got yourself a sale there since the game is also on mobile and I'll give it a go.

Lapis x Labyrinth is on my short list, but it's likely my last NIS purchase outside of Disgaea games. I've looooooong been a NIS fan and bought basically everything they've released but their recent output has been crap and the company isn't in good shape. Buuuuuuut this game looks more up my alley than their other recent games. Last shot, NIS.

Chaosbane is a definite buy at some point. Heard good things.
