I’ve been doing impressions since high school. Mainly cartoon characters, but the occasional human too. Peewee Herman is fairly easy, as is Mr. Bean (mostly because he doesn’t talk much)

I do a pretty good Professor Farnsworth and a passable Dr Zoidberg. My Peter Griffin and Cleveland are both passable, and on a good day my Homer Simpson isn’t all bad.

I’m working on my Rick impression, but I’ve never been able to belch on cue.

And my daughter thinks my Nixon impersonation is freaking hilarious, but that’s probably because I’m doing the Futurama Nixon impression, not the real one.

I can sing kind of like some different people if I put my mind to it. My Dean Martin and Bing Crosby tend go get muddled and blurred between each other, but my Dad says I can sound more like Garth Brooks than Garth Brooks on certain songs.

Of course, if you put me on the spot I’d probably flub all of them, but there are people who have heard them and told me they were good, so I’m pretty sure I’m not lying.

I demand a YouTube compilation.

If the memory of this post extends to the next time I’m on the show, I’m sure someone will make me.

Maybe I can record a promo or something.

“Good news everyone! This podcast is brought to you by Leesa Mattresses...”

The impressions question was pretty interesting. And, I think a lot of it does just come from work. I’m sure some people have a natural aptitude for doing different voices, but if you think about professionals, or very good amateurs, they have a ton of practice. One of the people who comes to mind for me is Laura Bailey. She has such a range, and her characters sound so different, that often I don’t even recognize her as voicing the character.

For my part, I can do a decent Mario, a pretty good Dr. Evil, and also a pretty good Vezzini (from The Princess Bride).

In terms of voices on the radio I always remember the voice of the main antagonist in Manhunt who taunted and teased you while forcing your character to participate in vicious games of kill or be killed with other prisoners. The entire game I just wanted to get to the room that guy was broadcasting from.

My gaming moments are many and varied and some, that involve friends, repeat themselves often but I'd say my highlights in recent times have been:

Sticking with Bloodborne's Lady Maria fight, even though it seemed an impossible fight, and finally beating her one Saturday morning when I wasn't expecting it was an exhilarating gaming experience for me.

God of Wars entirely non-freudian stranger fight, which satisfied my inner Hulk, and a brief exchange from later in the game that has stayed with me to this day:

Spoiler:

when Kratos and Atreus are leaving Freya's home of the first time. Atreas turns to her and asks, "Will we see you again?" She pauses for a moment before replying, "You can see as much or as little of me as you would like." Which still struck me as a beautiful thing to say.

Completing the Weyandt's Revenge jumping puzzle in Guild Wars 2 for the first time with Eleima. There is a small windmill on the coast near the main hub of Lion's Arch. Eleima led me there saying we were going to do a jumping puzzle. Not unreasonably I presumed we'd be jumping to the top of the windmill. Instead we pushed through the undergrowth behind the mill and came out at the entrance to an imposing cave system from which the voice of an ornery pirate captain boomed forth. What followed was an epic adventure through various treacherous puzzles including spiked walls, a maze in complete darkness and a room full of jumps from one platform to another where the lights would only come on periodically for a few seconds at a time. We've navigated many jumping puzzles since then but that one in particular has stuck with me.

I've had lots of fun playing Uncharted with Spikeout et al but it can be frustrating to be put up against teams of 'all stars' (especially when you suspect that one or more of those player may be playing with mouse and keyboard) but it can lead to memorable moments. For example, fairly recently, we had a match where we were being soundly beaten and we suddenly realised that all of our erstwhile teammates had left the match. It was five vs two and we were being pinned in a small collection of interconnected rooms that served as our spawn by frighteningly accurate sniper fire. Instead of venturing out to be picked off (or leaving the match entirely) we set about defending our spawn, planting mines tossing grenades through doorways and fighting off all comers until, Alamo style, we were eventually over run.

Watching someone play Dark Souls and sharing in their pain that is very enjoyable/cathartic and Sean Sands short lived but glorious Dark Souls play through was definitely a very bright highlight of the recent past. Not least because it felt, much like the rest of the charity streams, like the community coming together to have fun.

I don't remember who mentioned it, but whichever one of the cast talked about the mobile game, AdVenture Communist has made my list. I HATE mobile tapper games, but you made a compelling case and I decided to give it a glance...

There is some tapping involved, but once you start getting card upgrades for an individual industry i.e. potato farmer, freight truck, plantation, etc., it starts to collect automatically and you'll just be wasting your time with manual taps anyway. After that, it turns into a case of "build a few of these to unlock the next industry to earn the game currency and cards to upgrade your industries... And then you rank up, all your industries reset, but with more production power and you go through again, this time earning even more new industries and upgrades and...

I picked it up yesterday morning and I've barely put it down. Curse you people!

That voice talking about Adventure Communist is Allen!

Yeah, shame on him. I ended up spending the entire weekend tied to a damn mobile tapper game...

*grumble, grumble*

P.S. Once you unlock them, the events system basically gives you a whole second tapper game to grind. At the end of the event, you get upgrades and whatnot for the main game. The weekend had you tapping for medieval/magic "comrades". In a few days, we go to space! Cosmonauts for the Motherland!
