Felix “These Romans are crazy!” Threepaper
Welcome all, and happy “12th Anniversary of the Asian and European release of Big Lebowksi Bowling” week! You may all celebrate by discussing which is the best video game based on a film, arguing that Dune 2 doesn’t count because Dune was a book, then conceding because yes, in fact, the game’s artwork is taken from the 1984 movie.
Mortal Kombat 11 adds Fatal Blows and Krushing Blows to Brutalities and Fatalities. While Mortal Kombat’s attention to anatomical detail and technical rendering are of high standard, I’m just not that curious to see a dude shove another dude’s leg bone through his eye socket.
Speaking of brutality: Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Story Arc II - The Fate of Atlantis - really? We’re just calling them “story arcs” now? I suppose it’s no worse than calling everything “content,” but I kinda miss when they tried to put a few trimmings on the sausage. Anyway, Indiana Jones already discovered the fate of Atlantis.
Days Gone is this week’s zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic, open-world survival game. Get your Darryl on as you ride your motorbike around and discover adventures. It’s a resolutely single-player game seeking to distinguish itself from the pack with a strong story, while still offering up open-world staples such as crafting and rudimentary stealth mechanics. So basically, it’s The Last of Us on a motorbike.
Imperator: Rome marches in triumphantly this week, under a wreath borne by undiscovered bugs whispering “memento mori”. It’s Paradox. It’s Rome. Since its lineage traces back to EUIV rather than Crusader Kings, you can expect fewer family weddings and more public crucifixions. If you, like me, love the prospect of doing your own Hannibal run, seeing the gorgeously detailed maps in the game, and then having no idea what to do next, why not visit the court of your beneficent Game King? He hath blessed us with his wisdom in a strangely soothing Let’s Play series that explains the workings of this elephantine game and will give you the greatest sense of whether it’s for you. GOTW.

I do hope SteamWorld Quest turns out well.
How did I live before digital distribution of old, cheap games?

I know I’ve said this before, but I’m still surprised that Days Gone and The Last of Us 2 are different games.
Granted, I wasn’t paying super close attention, what with The Last of Us being such a colossal disappointment, but every time I noticed a trailer for Days Gone it looked like it was The Last Of Us 2. I thought it was the subtitle (as in: The Last of Us: Days Gone)
Finding out they were two different games was like how Brian Keith must have felt at the end of the Parent Trap.

Yes, you can cancel Darksiders, but only by using your Sony Golds. Which, while pretty good, aren't a patch on Zelda.

It's Sony turning into Ubisoft. Repeat that formula!

Word is the game's not bad, but it's also not great enough to be worth the $60. Sounds like the story is the best part.
Which would certainly fit into Sony's current formula, yes. Trying to build all that prestige.
