Rebel Galaxy Outlaw - Privateering-All

Veloxi, how many different ships are available for us to purchase or get in the game? I hope more than 5.

Have you played Halo, Destiny, and Anthem? Pretty much every big budget sci-fi game has that trope.

None of those are fighter-based space combat games, so I still don't get how the trope applies here.

There are five currently, but apparently more on the way. There won't be a ton because they each have custom cockpits with differing HUD layouts, custom take off and landing graphics with things like articulated landing gear and so on, so these ships are fare more detailed and unique this time around.

Sounds good! Also, how does it look and run on your new 2080Ti rig? 60fps?

Thanks Veloxi!

Looks wonderful and runs amazingly, but apparently my rig is super overkill for the game, and it'll run well on a variety of hardware.

Just referring to the prevalence of the ancient aliens trope. If we need to narrowly define it even more, then Freelancer has that trope in this exact type of game. Personally, I don't care what the wrapping is in these types of games and just want to know when I can get my hands on it.

Privateer had ancient alien technology.
You know, the gun you hacked your save file to have 4 of?

Just sayin...

I suppose, but it was just a means to an end. You never went exploring for ruins or anything in any of those games.

Perhaps you can win mavericksy over with details of the interstellar romancing system. I hear it's got some real depth.

For reelzy though, does everyone you shoot down in this game sound like a nasally, high-pitched hick* ? Seemed that was the goto for VO, based on that dev stream. Looks great, my one gripe notwithstanding.

* After binge-watching Into the Badlands, I have a 'hankering' to blast some Evil Colonel Sanders ; I suspect I'll have to settle for blasting a bunch of BillyBob clones instead -- again, based on the stream.

Er...no? There's a fair amount of vocal variety in your enemies.

Damn me.
Every time I see there is a flurry of new posts, I get my hopes up that the game is released or will be released soon. And now I am contributing to it
It almost as bad as the "Name of the Wind" thread.

We don't even have a release date. Don't worry, when we do I'll scream it from the mountaintops.

Rock on. Thanks, Veloxi ; good to hear it. At points it seemed a bit.. samey, but that was from skimming a few combat moments so may have just been dumb luck with the bits I was watching. In the VO ballpark, one thing I really enjoyed was the Wing Commander style 'scream cam' that would sometimes trigger just before an enemy ship went K'BOOM.

I'm totally on board day 1 after watching the developer's stream. This looks phenomenal, and I can't wait to play it. All this chatter is getting me pumped and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Damn you, Veloxi, and thanks!

This is SO great. I can't stress it enough. Sometimes an enemy will be in the middle of saying something when their ship blows up, so the audio just cuts out at the right moment, which is wonderful. "This is some bullsh"*BOOM* So. Great.

AND THEN, if a pilot ejects, it seems to somehow know which pilot was which, because I'll tell ya what, if I blow up a ship piloted by a human woman, and then shoot the pilot, it's a woman's scream I hear. Same with aliens. SO well done.

Yooouurrr'eeeee welcome!

^Hah! I expect a full review, one of these days on SGJ, when GTA:Space comes out.

In the meantime, I'll just hope that RGO has cockpit windshield wipers..

I should probably ignore the thread for a few months then. Maybe announce the release date in the general space Sims thread?

All this hype and nothing to play isn't good for me.

It doesn't, but they make a lovely crack when you're damaged enough.

I'm sure I'll announce it there too. I hope it's not too long, but like I said, I've no idea what he has yet to add. I've been told ship variants are coming (like right now the Durston has four guns and two turrets, they're talking about a three-gun-three-turret variant), and faction stuff like with the merchant's and mercenaries' guilds still need work, but beyond that I've no idea.

I'd also love a variant of the Coyote that had, say, four guns up front and one turret. Turrets are very handy in this game.

Can you have AI controlled turrets? Or are they all manually aimed?

fangblackbone wrote:

Turrets aim and fire on their own. It's so great.

You CAN manually control them though if you want. This would make sense if you put a mining laser on one of them, for example, since mining lasers don't fire in combat.

Very glad to hear that about turrets. Manual aim has always been frustrating in these types of games with them.

In the first game I always let my turrets take care of themselves while using broadside lasers- I found them a lot more accurate so they ended up doing more effective DPS than the guns with higher base damage.

Agreed. What does seem to be missing is the fine control you had over turrets from the first game, such as telling them to attack only fighters, or your target, etc etc.

I didn't miss it in application though, as the turrets did a fine job on their own.

And who knows, maybe that'll get added back in. Won't be sad if not though.

Exactly my thought! And you "explored" an ancient alien ruin! (Okay, you landed at a base with a different set of artwork on the landing bay screen.)

I loved the first and am trying to stay dark on this one (other than this thread), so I'm not sure if the VO changed this time around. But on the first, Travis did a lot of the VO himself. He posted a few dev videos of him recording different voices. So, some voices did sound "samey" in the first, but being a 2 man shop at that point, I could forgive.

Back in the 90's I was completely in love with Privateer. So it looks like this is going to be a day one for me.

Yeah, this is the game for you, then.

I actually enjoyed Privateer 2 too. I know I know. But everything Origin Games I enjoyed. Miss those good ol days.

Hey, Privateer 2 had those funky landing videos. That has to count for something.

Nothing. It counts for [willywonka] NOTHING [/willywonka].
