Welcome all, and happy “35th anniversary of This Is Spinal Tap” week! You may all go up to 11.

Devil May Cry 5 is the headliner this week, making a comeback after 11 years of silence. Dante and Nero are back, and they’re teaming up with a new character, V. Will V be the Jason Newsted or the Rob Trujillo of the group? I never got into the series myself—I couldn’t buy into the aesthetic—but algorithms constantly recommend it to me as similar to some of my favourites. Kinda like Judas Priest.

Path of Exile gets a new album expansion: Synthesis, which drops alongside PoE going live on the PS4. This is a tasty, extra helping for fans; the previous expansion only came out last December.

For the chiptune fans, Ghosts’n’Goblins tribute act, Ghoulboy, debuts across the consoles this week.

The PC list looks pervier than usual this week, but there are some nuggets to be found. Galaxy Trucker: Extended Edition is, by all accounts, a stellar adaptation of the popular, spaceship-building board game. Medieval Towns is a more vanilla version of Conan Exiles that hopes people will cooperate long enough to actually build the titular towns before warring and destroying them.

Also juggering on is the MLB house band, R.B.I. Baseball. Someone must keep buying these things, because 19 is out now.

If you want something a little more indie, try Attack of the Earthlings. It’s a turn-based, stealth combat game where you’re the insectoid aliens trying to fend off pesky, invading Earthlings. If you were cheering for the bugs in Starship Troopers, this one’s for you.

Here's the list, now in release-date order!

Of course you're dropping metal jokes and Chris isn't writing for the front page anymore.

I preordered Assault Android Cactus+ on Switch. I'm absolutely stoked to play through this fine twin stick shooter again, but while laying down in bed this time!

PoE on PS4 means it's time for me to dive back in. This'll be my first time playing the game with a controller so I'm beyond interested in seeing how it feels.

Poor Left Alive is having all sorts of bad PR issues in Japan. Like everyone else, including Square Enix, I keep forgetting the game exists. It feels like it's been left hanging by a thread by S-E. Does it deserve it? Was it a pointless adventure to begin with? Meaning, did anyone ask for this game? Does S-E have any idea what they're doing anymore?

Please stop buying the RBI Baseball games. Please buy Super Mega Baseball instead.

Sadly I'm too deep into my fancy pants European power metal to have even known it was a Spinal Tap anniversary, so all the better for it.

I wanted to be interested in this game, but as every trailer released it just felt like some sort of out-dated mess. Maybe later in the year I'll give it a look, but something about it feels so... cheap. Is it the production values? The silliness of the setting? The aesthetic? I dunno. I don't even recall seeing gameplay for this. It has some big talent attached, but it draws nothing but a heavy sigh of apathy.

I don't know what it's lacking, but it is lacking such a huge amount of whatever it is that no one seems to care. Especially compared to the victorious return of Devil May Cry proper, and in the shadow of From's upcoming Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

And maybe that's the problem. Left Alive feels like an artifact of that old fashioned PS2-era type of Japanese AAA game philosophy, but just as DMC5 is revitilizing an old property and Sekiro is evolving the old Tenchu style of ninja-stealth-action, Left Alive has this aura of all the bad elements of that era we've collectively moved on from.

I dunno. It's all about how the game feels when you look at it, and Left Alive just fails to inspire. In fact, it does the exact opposite.

Maybe it'll inspire the wallet a lot better when it's on digital sale for $20 in June.

EDIT: So I looked up this gameplay video and it is definitely confirming all the fears I had from the story trailers. Everything about this game feels like it came out 10-12 years ago, when shoddy imitations of Gears of War's cover system were all the rage. I might have taken a chance on such a game then, but this looks... almost embarrassing in places.

I hadn't even heard of Left Alive until earlier this week when it popped up as an ad for a YouTube video. I was shocked that to see the SE logo at the end of the trailer. Looks like they're sending that one out to die.

And just like that, Left Alive makes it onto my wishlist.

Shame it’s Denuvo, though.

If you read any of the user reviews on Steam, the game using Denuvo seems like the least of its problems. It currently has a Very Negative (15%) rating.

Yes, but Greg is evaluating games from a different standard than the rest of us. While many gamers would find busting a pipe into a tank until it simply vanishes from existence a bad thing, Greg would no doubt giggle in delight and clap his hands at the silly empowerment the game drops into his hands.

I look forward to seeing Left Alive in Greg's top 10 come December.

Left Alive is likely being review bombed on Steam. Everyone's buying it to see how bad it is, uninstalling, reviewing and refunding it.

(That's a thing you can still do, right? I know you have to play a certain amount of the games, time-wise, before you can review. Is it past the refund time?)

If I buy Left Alive, I will not refund it unless it’s so broken it won’t run.

It’s not fair to blame the developer when I walked in with my eyes wide open.

And yes, beating up a tank with a pipe sounds like my kind of fun.
