XFL, USFL, and other non-NFL American FootbALL

My biggest complaint with the XFL is that the LA team went under, and so there's no California team for me to follow. Put one in San Diego!

And no, I'm not going to cheer for a team in east Florida, I'm not making that mistake again.

Good news, Legion! Football is coming to San Diego, just not that football.

Would anyone even notice if they moved the Chargers over?

Given how cheap the Spanos family is, and how poorly the team did on the NFLPA's player survey, no, the Chargers would have no problem blending in in the XFL.

Not gonna lie. I like the LFL better than any of these other leagues

The Arena Football League is coming back, and they're starting to announce where new teams will be located. One was just announced in Duluth and they're seeking suggestions for a team name

BRING BACK THE MINNESOTA FIGHTING PIKE!

And, yes, that was really an old AFL team, for one year in the 90s. I saw an exhibition game where Kurt Warner led the Iowa Barnstormers to destroy the Fighting Pike in Carver-Hawkeye arena in Iowa City many years ago.

Our AAF favorite, Luis Perez, is one of the quarterbacks for the Vegas Vipers.

Make that our XFL CHAMPION and CHAMPIONSHIP GAME MVP Luis Perez!

Perez was traded to Arlington in the middle of the season, which sure worked out for Arlington, as he led them the rest of the way to the championship.

Super happy for Perez! Loved watching him play in Birmingham.

Looks like attendance was pretty good for the championship game. Not so much at other games I watched during the season...

More critically important football news; the Arena Football League has announced a start in 2024, with 16 teams per TMZ.

No more Duluth, but St. Paul has a theoretical team in this very clearly obviously theoretical league. Wonder how big of an arena they plan on playing in; I can't imagine they'd be able to vaguely fill the Xcel Energy Center where the Minnesota Wild play. Probably some small college gym considering the attendance they're likely to get.

I mean, the Swarm played lacrosse in the Xcel and I guarantee you arena football will be a better draw than that was.

If they really want to play in a small arena (like 1,000 capacity), they could probably play in the TRIA arena that the Whitecaps play in and the Wild use for practice. It's like two blocks from the Xcel.

St. Thomas is building a new hockey arena that I'm sure will have a few thousand seats. That could be a candidate.

California (will play in Bakersfield)

BAKERSFIELD? Fresno was right there! Why on earth would you go to the Central Valley and set up shop in Bakersfield? Even other Valley people don't want to go to Bakersfield.

I'm sure they are trying to ride the coattails of Adult Swim's Royal Crackers, which is set in Bakersfield. I'm sure at least a few people other than me watched it.

Going to guess the appeal of an AFL team in Bakersfield is the lack of other things to do in Bakersfield; the boredom is actually the point.

There's already one much better thing to do in Bakersfield: leave Bakersfield.

My sister's doggo is the best thing to come out of Bakersfield:

And doggo's puppies, but I don't have pictures of them.

All I can think of is the inevitable branding when Baker Mayfield plays for them in a few seasons.

So, the arena football league is going well.

More than a week after the relaunch announcement, a person claiming to represent the Bakersfield AFL squad contacted the Mechanics Bank Arena. The individual identified himself as “Tim Robinson,” but left contact information that was not for anybody with that name. Defector dialed the phone number used to make the call to the Bakersfield arena, however, and asked for “Tim Robinson.”

“Well, that’s me, but there is no ‘Tim Robinson,’” said the man who answered. “That’s an alias.”

He said his real name was Tim Carbajal, and that he came up with “Tim Robinson” after finding out he’d been selected as owner of the Bakersfield AFL franchise. He declined to say when or how that selection took place. “I’m sorry I did that,” he said. A public records search for the phone number revealed a Timothy Carbajal of Taft, Calif., a town about 35 miles southwest of Bakersfield.

Carbajal declined to answer questions about where the money to buy and/or operate an AFL franchise came from, citing a gag order from the league office. Carbajal also politely declined to discuss plans for drafts or tryouts or hirings or anything related to the arena team.

This team better be dressed like hot dogs.

See, Bakersfield was a mistake.

but what about the afl team tho

But where are all those kids at Bishop Sycamore going to play now?

Baker's Field, Bakersfield CA?
Or maybe they could dub it with the nickname "Squared"?

Even after people explain the financial reasons to me, I will never understand why the Chargers moved to Los Angeles. Why didn't they just award them an expansion team like, say, the New York Jets?

World Wide Football! The WWF!

WWUS
FLUX

XUFL is good because it will naturally be pronounced zuhf fuhl, which is hilarious!

MInor League Football, or MILF.

MInor League Football, or MILF.

[Insert joke about Zach Wilson being the #1 draft pick here]

Arise!
Popping in to mention that I'm really enjoying the UFL, which is most of the way through its first season.

Feeling bad for Luis Perez, who is having a rough season with Arlington, but on the other hand, the Birmingham Stallions being on a 13 game winning streak is pretty cool.

I dunno I keep seeing games on TV Sat and Sun but I can't seem to care. There's NBA playoffs and baseball and soccer and I can wait until August for football

I guess it helps my attention that I follow none those other sports (unless it's the European Championships or the World Cup).
