Apex Legends - A Titanfall Battle Royale

Apex has been getting heavy adds during the NCAA Basketball tournament on the first day. I find that interesting.

new patch

A patch for PC is live now that includes a fix that when we tested locally, improved stability and you will need to update the client to grab it.

This is progress, but we don’t expect this patch to be the end all solution for all the crashes and we still have work to do. There are still some issues we’re seeing from the reports that we’re continuing to investigate to understand and address:

Other crashes we’ve seen are related to out-of-memory issues. This is much less common. It's not clear yet whether this is a memory leak in Apex or an improperly configured PC.

There may be other, rarer crashes still to fix that we just haven't identified yet.

Best of luck to my PC peeps! I was telling a PC coworker friend that I've experienced more Apex crashes on Xbox than all other Xbox games combined, but it's still probably less than five ever.

Grounded speculation:

That looks awesome!

Just wanted to post two etiquette/strategy things.

1. When your teammate dies and you win the fight. Do note loot his body. Currently he has a bunch of gear and biggest thing is he knows "what" he has. Moving it from 1 player on your team to another is not a net gain. When he gets back to his body he can quickly grab everything and know exactly what he has. It much faster/better. Obviously if other enemies are around and you need ammo go for it.

2. If you have a teammate down and you just won a fight and are low. If you heal ~ 15 seconds res 5 seconds then they need to heal ~ 15 seconds. That is nearly a 35s window that an additional team can come in before you are back at strength. If you Res him 5s, then both heal at same time ~ 15 s. You are vulnerable for 15s less. Now this is assuming you cleaned up the original team or have reason to believe they left the area. Obviously if you are 1v1 or 1v2 still heal first. Or some cases if you are wide in open etc. However, most of the time you are better of getting him back up so you can both heal at the same time.

I had a fun match the other night with a fellow GWJer the other night (using the GWJ Discord). I'm not usually drawn to these competitive FPS but Apex Legends has tapped into a familiar fun like the original TF2. Tight teamwork and interesting character abilities.

I'm still struggling to get a feel for how much damage I'm doing without referring to a chart of shield colour hierarchy. I wish damage was communicated visually (shields falling off the characters or something like that) rather than floating/stacked numbers.

I'm sure It's been said previously but the game is incredibly well made for a Free To Play model. I'm just glad I'm not the one taking the financial gamble in having to develop this type of game and then releasing it for free.

There are a few minor exceptions to this. 1. If you are far from a respawn beacon and know that you won't be coming back for the gear or 2. If you are still in a fight or have no cells or batteries, getting a fresh armor can be a good thing, but use discretion. If you can use a cell and get back to full leave the full armor for your ally.

Battlepass bonus xp per legend is now in its second week, because the max amounts just went from 25k to 50k. (you get double the xp for the legend until you hit the max, which was 25,000 per legend, and is now 50,000). This means that if, like me, you only put in 5k on Mirage the first week, you don't lose the 20k...I still have 45k bonus xp I can get playing him.

Assuming I make xp.

I haven't had any wins in a while, which I'm okay with. I'm still trying to get used to the recoil and the whole concept of dropping into really busy areas. I keep running into issues where my teammates split off early and we end up in areas where it's going to be harder to help each other. Also, it's tough bouncing between this and Titanfall 2 where everything is so much faster.

I'm really over dropping into Skull Town. I'd much rather drop into a place with only one or at most two other squads (preferably none), that is right next to Skull Town or another busy area. So we can gear up without the mad dash for an R45, but once geared up, we can hit groups still recovering from their "hot drops". Best of both worlds for me.

Got Hero on the board with his first win yesterday! It was anticlimactic, since the last team had one guy knocked from the previous fight before we got there, and a second one went down quickly. It was a 3v1 in seconds and I didn't even see the final kill. We were that filthy 3rd partying squad.

FTFY

Your chances of winning are way harder if you wait to be the 3rd party in the final fight. When you get to the last 3 or 4 squads, if you are looking for a win, lay low and when the shooting starts get there as fast as possible.

I have been in a total slump with this game lately, haven't gotten a win or even an evening where I felt like I played okay. Then this morning I played for maybe 30 minutes before work, ended up in a squad where we never got a third player, and we got the win! Four kills each, man it feels good.

Got it as Bloodhound, who I pretty much just picked because he's in the upper left corner and I'm spreading my time around for Battlepass bonus XP. Using his Ult at the end was key for me identifying the enemies, although it also made my framerate pretty bad.

Anyone else getting just insufferable lag? It was not great yesterday, and today I tried 2 matches and it was absolutely awful with rubber banding and latency. Overwatch runs fine as normal, so I'm thinking it's not just my internet.

i had one match with some weird lag mid game, but that was it. We actually ended up winning that one.

So I was spectating a match after dying in the final 3 squads. It was 2 vs 1, and solo guy managed to down the other player while taking a ton of damage and ran off.

Their Lifeline went to pick up the downed guy, which would have gotten them the win eventually... but she failed to take now of where she'd dropped her care package before the fight started. The solo guy one the match when the care package crushed both of his opponents.

I get lag every couple of matches, and occasionally in the middle of the day when I can play.

The new series of The Twilight Zone sounds ace.

The game is amazing and i'm looking forward to develop my skills to a good level, as it's really hard for me to play shooters on ps4. Probably should try apex on my pc

I'm almost at that point. It feels like I'm playing as well as I ever have but I've not had a win in weeks. I have total wins somewhere in the twenties and expected a win at least every other night but not now.

On xbox it seems to happen at the start of matches maybe once a night- it feels like everything is at half speed and it's the same for everyone in the squad. I get the occasional stutter mid game too but not enough to be an annoyance.

I've tried to drop lifeline packages on the enemy late game but it's not happened yet. I have a cunning plan to trap people using the care package and gas barrels but I've not pulled that off yet either.

I said "what the hell" and bought the battlepass and gave them $20 even though I don't care for most of the cosmetics. I got way more enjoyment out of this game than most AAA games for $60. It's cool that I might be able to get 950 tokens back by the end of the season too.

I did this, too. But I'll be lucky to hit 400 tokens back.

I've been trying to improve at this game lately, and the one thing I feel like I can clearly say is an issue for me is too often being the first one to die in my squad. I watched a couple of videos about dying less, and my only takeaway so far is that I may not be utilizing cover enough. I definitely am sometimes, but I'm going to try and focus on it to see if that makes a noticeable difference.

I've said before that the combat in this game doesn't come naturally to me. I'm most recently used to Destiny, where you're almost always ADSing. I've never played a Call of Duty, which I assume is more similar to Titanfall/Apex. I think time to kill is much higher in Destiny, as well, which may explain why my sense of how long I can safely expose myself is off.

I have successfully integrated hipfire into my game, at least.

Now, to die first can certainly be an issue. However, it doesn't always point to an issue. I am downed or die first in many of the encounters In this game. However, I generally take 1 with more or do plenty of damage to multiple.

I think the better question is why do you die first? Are you in front taking the fire for your team? Are they close enough behind you to take advantage of it? What legend are you?

A lot of the people I normally play with all play aggressive/aggro. I am usually a bit more but often if I can take focus it allows them to come in and clean up. Playing wraith as the person that is front is a big help because her active ability you can buy time for teammates to come or back off with it. However, if you do it with people that don't' play aggressive that is a problem.

I kind of mirror others in my experience with Apex recently. I’ve been in a dry spell in regards to wins as well this past week and I don’t feel like my play has slipped. From anecdotal evidence from the “Enter The Apex” podcast and from chatter on the Subreddit, it seems console player count has dipped, which people are saying in turn has made the player pool narrowed down to a lot of hardcore players dominating. Obviously, take that with a HUGE grain of salt, but in my own experience, I have felt that as well. Before this last weekend, I was able to pretty consistently get at least one win a night. But up until yesterday, I went on a 4 day dry streak.

But enough with the bummer talk! I FINALLY bounced back and got my last win I needed for the “Apex Legend” trophy!

It took WAY too long to get a win with Gibraltar, but I’m glad I stuck it out for one more day! The day started off rough again with hot drops and people solo dropping or leaving match as soon as they get knocked. But I had a good couple of games with some randoms that went ok. But finally, got into a decent random squad and I was able to get a good early save on one of my teammates as we went exploring into Airbase after landing in Runoff. And from that moment, after a tenuous start, we cruised to victory! Coincidentally, we went from Airbase outward to explore near Bunker, but the circle ended back at Airbase and forced us back there for the final showdown with the last two teams!

One win is all it takes to reenergize me and make it where I can’t wait to get home to play again and probably get frustrated some more! I love it!

Grats! I just got the top 5 one from the season pass last week. So i can show either one off. I'm still partial to the one for getting 20k damage for each character.

Been playing more while waiting for the Div2 update to hit and something has shifted with the population. The time of matches has dropped significantly. Not sure if it's due to a population shift or streamer influence, but a lot of matches are over as the 3rd circle is coming in.

A useful image for the Battle Pass grinders:
