NFL 2018: Conference Championships

I agree.

Like I noted before, last year the best offer for Foles was a 2nd round pick, and that was with a year of affordable contract left. Now you basically have to trade for him and pay him the franchise tag or sign him to a multi-year deal.

When Joe Flacco's available why would you ever want Foles? Right, Jacksonville?

Don't start!

Speaking of Benjamin Allbright, he posted on January 1st that the Niners would be a "good fit" landing spot for AB.

Yesterday, he retweeted his own tweet, leading to this exchange:

They were probably right to not let him go for that 2nd. As much as I think I would've made that move it was clear Wentz wasn't going to be ready and he's a perpetual injury risk, so Foles presented the best case scenario for having a starting QB who knows the system, etc.

Linehan out in Dallas

Sorely needed.

Weird, I thought they JUST said he'd be back.

I pretty much agree with all of that. I would have pulled the trigger on a deal, but that was with some assumptions about Wentz's health.

That said, my point was really just about the price of Foles from a buyer's perspective. That's what the offers were last year, and the value proposition has only gone down from the buyer's point of view, so I imagine Allbright is correct.

I noticed in an adjacent tweet, Allbright posted this Twitter poll:

Interesting the price tag he put on Foles, a 2020 3rd. Though it's a hypothetical, I'd wager that's what he sees the market value on Foles being. Which I think makes sense. That would also make me be included in Allbright's "people overestimating Foles' trade value" group, as I had pegged his value as a low 2nd. It's going to be interesting to see what he actually moves for.

For the record, if I'm the Eagles, I would rather have Wentz and the 3rd. But I'm not the Eagles so I still think they should trade him to Jacksonville.

I don't know exactly how the compensatory picks work but what was discussed on the radio here is that they would be likely to get a 3rd round pick for Foles if he simply leaves as a FA.

I think the trade market for Foles is dubious at best because you don't have a ton of buyers out there.. there just arent that many teams to drive up value. But he needs to go regardless and honestly its not even about the trade value at this point.

Garrett said he'd be back in his radio show early in the week, but started backtracking that same afternoon.

That depends on a few things. First it depends on the Eagles not cancelling out potential compensatory picks with other free agent signings. That's not necessarily a guarantee, as the Eagles cap is bad right now, but will clear up considerably after Foles is off of it, as well as a couple of other obvious moves (Nelson Agholor at $9.3 million? Not a chance.)

So it depends on how much of that money is spent on re-signing Philly's many unrestricted free agents, or if they go outside their roster to fill vacancies. It's conceivable (though not extremely likely) that Philly spends a lot of money on other teams' free agents and just lets all their pending FAs go.

Beyond that, it depends on the money Foles signs for and his playing time. Playing under the franchise tag would certainly satisfy the salary need, but an early injury could potentially leave him with few games played which could result in an adjustment.

Most likely, though, Foles would bring the Eagles their compensatory pick. The question is if they can do better than that. I think they can, if only just.

I thought he'd have to be cut from the team to get out from the contract. He shouldn't count against compensatory picks then, right?

Pretty interesting article on the marketing of Pat Mahomes. Seems like he can even make that look fun and innocent. I don't think they are doing anything particularly new and different, but it is a pretty in-depth article on how to market celebrities.

How agents used an old-school playbook to market Chiefs’ Mahomes, a new-age phenom

The foundation for Mahomes’ partnership with each one of the companies is similar: Each product is one that has value and is one that the quarterback actually would use.

Take, for example, Mahomes’ partnership with Airshare.

The Kansas City company is a private jet service primarily used by executives and business professionals who want to increase productivity and efficiency. Last year, the company began a rebranding, moving from Executive AirShare to just Airshare.

In Mahomes, the company saw someone who could help with the brand’s evolution.

“He really represents that next wave of individuals that are not only rising in popularity,” said Andy Tretiak, Airshare’s chief marketing officer, “but also his leadership skills and just the natural leadership you have to have as a quarterback really appealed to us, because those are the types of people that are customers of ours.”

While Airshare gets to use Mahomes and his likeness to market its product, Mahomes gets to use the jets. Not only does he have a personal allotment of airtime, his family also gets to use the service. For every home Chiefs game, a jet picks them up in Tyler, Texas, and delivers them to Kansas City. And after the game, they hop on a plane back to Tyler.

In a recent interview with KC television station KSHB, Mahomes’ mom, Randi, said she’s been able to go to more of her son’s games now than when he was growing up. That, Tretiak said, makes the partnership between his company and Mahomes all the more valuable.

“For us to be able to provide that service for his family is something that’s really rewarding for us,” he said.

Yeah, being Pat Mahomes does not suck.

Foles will become a free agent because he will exercise his option to void the remainder of the contract. If the Eagles were to cut him (or decline to pick up the option, which they have to do first before Foles can void), then you would be correct.

But they will pick up the option, triggering Foles' 5 day countdown to exercise his void, and he will exercise it. It's all a bunch of procedural nonsense.

Decided to take a gander at Super bowl ticket prices on SeatGeak. Well, I'm not going to the Super Bowl.

Don't worry, Kansas City's not either.

Actually, I really hope they are. I even have a special KC Chiefs related shirt to wear on the occasion...

I hope if Kansas City goes Snickers will recycle the Chefs commercial.

Given his personality, and hair, they should have made Mahomes a hobbit!

The Chiefs really need to do a Super Bowl song/rap. We need to hear Mahomes on that.

I loved both of those vids. Great stuff.

Ravens and John Harbaugh have come to an extension. No details yet, but my guess is two more years tacked on to 2019.

Go NO.

But really, go Mahomes.

Interesting how they can move Sunday games to 3 and 630 this week but couldn't do it last week and had to make the west coast team play at 10am.

Why West Coast teams get screwed:
Jed York
Stan Kroenke
Mark Davis
Dean Spanos
(formerly) Paul Allen
and let's even throw Denver's cluster in there

Nobody on that list with any balls or real pull with the other owners, nobody in a position to make a stink and push for a change.

Was there any coverage on why on earth the CST and PST team are playing the early game in a dome? vs a night game in Kansas?

Already starting my Pats conspiracy theories. I suggest any other haters also get your stories right.

Papa John's commercial, lol

Come crawling back huh, you sad sacks
