Well, that sucked, eh?
Only one of four games was close. *sigh* I guess that's just what happens when the top offenses are humming along. Especially when you come in with last week's gameplan on defense that worked against a completely different team and then don't adjust. (Seriously, Gus Bradley couldn't figure out that the Pats would run the ball if Sony Michel was on the field and pass it if White was. It was just that simple.) Good one, Chargers! You had one job this year! But nooooooo Brady and Belichick are back in the Conference Championship again.
Actually, this time, I'm good with it because they'll be playing in KC. I don't think we could've asked for a more interesting game than between the Patriots and Chiefs on the AFC side. We've got the stalwart old guy versus the new hotness. The Chiefs are good at exactly one thing on defense and that's rushing the passer. The Pats D is usually good at finding ways to slow down their opponent's offense. So, what will happen? Hopefully another 40+ points a team like the All Time Great Week 6 game.
On the NFC side I probably would've preferred to see the Bears' D in there, but sadly their offense is still a major work in progress. So instead we'll have the Rams and Saints, which is a nice consolation prize because they too all have huge scoring offenses and another old guy vs young guy battle.
In all honesty, should we have expected this season to end any other way? This was the Year of Offense. Hopefully in a few weeks we'll refer to this as the Year of Mahomes, but I hope even more that we manage to get two great games this weekend to make up for last.
Just about anything would be better than last weekend...
