Well, that sucked, eh?
Only one of four games was close. *sigh* I guess that's just what happens when the top offenses are humming along. Especially when you come in with last week's gameplan on defense that worked against a completely different team and then don't adjust. (Seriously, Gus Bradley couldn't figure out that the Pats would run the ball if Sony Michel was on the field and pass it if White was. It was just that simple.) Good one, Chargers! You had one job this year! But nooooooo Brady and Belichick are back in the Conference Championship again.
Actually, this time, I'm good with it because they'll be playing in KC. I don't think we could've asked for a more interesting game than between the Patriots and Chiefs on the AFC side. We've got the stalwart old guy versus the new hotness. The Chiefs are good at exactly one thing on defense and that's rushing the passer. The Pats D is usually good at finding ways to slow down their opponent's offense. So, what will happen? Hopefully another 40+ points a team like the All Time Great Week 6 game.
On the NFC side I probably would've preferred to see the Bears' D in there, but sadly their offense is still a major work in progress. So instead we'll have the Rams and Saints, which is a nice consolation prize because they too all have huge scoring offenses and another old guy vs young guy battle.
In all honesty, should we have expected this season to end any other way? This was the Year of Offense. Hopefully in a few weeks we'll refer to this as the Year of Mahomes, but I hope even more that we manage to get two great games this weekend to make up for last.
Just about anything would be better than last weekend...
I don't think I'll be able to catch either game in full, unless the snow is worse than I'm expecting. In which case I'll be at home remaining warm.
The only one I really care about is Chiefs vs. Patriots, though. Without my team in the running it's just a matter of "please let it be an interesting Super Bowl".

THIS FEELS FAMILIAR
It's so funny, just one week ago, everyone was showering the Gus Bus with praise for the 7 DB defense against the Ravens. I guess if you need a defensive coordinator that knows how to shut down an offense that does one thing, Gus is your guy. Once an offense does two things, he's out of his element.
Man it's going to be funny when Tampa cuts him and then gets wrecked by him in a Falcons jersey twice a year.
Crossposting from the Bold Predictions 2019 thread, which you should visit and predict:
* The Kansas City Chiefs will defeat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl next month, ushering in a new age of football.
However...
* The Jacksonville Jaguars will reach the Super Bowl next month...only to lose to the Minnesota Vikings in Minnesota.
This probably means it'll be Patriots versus Saints.
Anybody but the Pats.
Jags are hiring an OC... and it's not Bevell or McCoy!
It's John DeFilippo.
Very happy about the hire, but it's a curious one as well. DeFilippo got scapegoated in Minnesota because Mike Zimmer couldn't stand not running the ball despite having a near league-worst offensive line and rushing efficiency. DeFilippo made some mistakes along the way, but a lot of the fallout there IMO comes down to Zimmer not having the stomach to go through the rough transition to modern NFL football.
What's curious is the Jags seem like another team that had their heels dug in against the new NFL, so for them to hire DeFilippo is surprising.
It does mean that I think the odds of Foles in Jacksonville have gone up, even though I still consider the odds of that to be well beneath a few other options.
On the NFC side I probably would've preferred to see the Bears' D in there
Next season, for sure.
For those preparing to #betagainst the Patriots, the KC forecast has changed. The arctic blast is not getting as far south, and they are calling for upper teens or lower 20's on game day.
I felt like the cold would mostly help the Patriots, so that is a good thing for the Chiefs, I think.

Honestly I think the cold is the best thing the Patriots have going for them. They are 3:5 on the road and score an average of 10 points less. The best team they beat, on the road, was Chicago and it came down to a stopped Hail Mary on the 1 yard line. So far they have been a great home team and a bad road team. Maybe playoff football will be different but the 2018 stats are not in their favor.
Also: Brady is old. It's one thing to look great coming off a bye against a West Coast team playing at 10am their time. We'll see how he looks in the cold at Arrowhead.

Hes always been a great cold weather QB. Rivers played with a glove, Brady didn't. Away game with Arrowhead crowd noise is another story.
Weather? Brady? Crowd noise?
Come on. The obvious script is a couple of tic tac fouls going the Pats way and Andy Reid blundering the clock.
See, that would actually go right into some of the commentary I and my father even discussed about Schwartz's defense, and referencing the NBC Sports Philadelphia guys as well, but you all told me I was wrong.

More proof that DeForest Buckner belongs in the Pro Bowl instead of Cox.

How so? It's a punt play and Fletcher Cox takes the play off. That has nothing to do with calling blitzes or not. It was a defensive setup in case they faked the punt, which they did, but only because they knew Fletcher Cox was going to stand up and do Jack sh*t.
I dunno man. I'm just mentally flailing at this point.
Loving all the 'Arctic Blast' talk, where I am here in Australia i'll likely be watching in 42c (107 wacky imperial degrees) if the forecast holds up and missing the first half of Chiefs beating down on the Pats while I take my kids to swim class.
Huh. Louisville just hired the Eagles WR coach, Gunter Brewer.
This is good right?

Yeah Pats, Steelers, and Seachickens.
I think I could have got those if you'd asked the trivia, "what 3 teams have never placed last in their division since 2002?"
