She bumped it after recording! Shenanigans!

Some great questions on the show this week. That one from JR Ralls was quite enlightening regarding the different mentalities on refunds. I found myself agreeing most with Allen's perspective. I thought Shawn nailed the point on the emotional tie to games as products which seemed to effect Cory's philosophy.

I must admit that I've grown very used to strong consumer protections in Europe and as a result I wouldn't rush to give Steam a gold star for finally inacting a long overdue refund system. I actually ended up in exactly the same situation Allen described with my copy of Cuphead. I could tell after 60 minutes that regardless of the amazing art that I straight up detested the gameplay, but having only started playing a couple of weeks after buying I wasn't eligible for a refund.

I think the refund for a physical game I ever got was for an absolute trashfire PS1 game called London Racer. The graphics were bad (even for 1999) and the handling was miserable. I believe it did great on sales because it was bargain bin priced at release and it promised a welcomingly familiar open world (I grew up just outside London) but failed to deliver anything halfway enjoyable. That abomination went right back to Woolworths (RIP).

Hehe. I have prescient powers.

Spoiler:

I always add a few extra days for the stragglers. There’s always stragglers.

Thanks for the shoutout. You’ve still got a few days, people!

I agree completely about Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I initially thought this would be a fun AC game(haven't played since AC Brotherhood) because of the ancient Greek backdrop. I had heard about the grindy "pay to win" style gameplay where you couldn't get good gear at a decent rate unless you purchase it from the store, but I said screw it and got the game anyway. Regret the purchase and still haven't finished it.

It feels like a game where they just wanted a huge world with mediocre gameplay scattered throughout. Like maybe they thought people would say "that was kinda fun" enough to get through the entirety of the game. Surprisingly the gameplay loop is similar to the character development in that it never changes. Which is sad because the VA in this is really good.

Just like most AC's, the game is great visually and audibly but the gameplay(and in this case character development) is kinda "meh".

Wonder if you'd feel the same way about Red Dead Redemption 2.

Boo I say. Boo on you sirs!
Division 2 will roxxors soxxors
I get the logic of the bullet sponge hate but at the end of the day it is a cover shooter with great cover shooting mechanics.
The exploration is amazing with tons of easter eggs and nuggets.
It looks like they are expanding the skill system which I am very looking forward to.
Weren't there bullet sponges and realism in Fallout 3 (New Vegas, 4 and 76)?
I don't get the love for Outer Worlds and the blah on Division 2. Does D2 just need wackiness or corn? Or a Pipboy?

So glad that Cory mentioned Spelunky 2 so I could stop shouting in my car.

I'm looking forward to Anthem the most during 2019. I love loot shooters and progression and played quite a bit of Destiny and Destiny 2. One of the main reasons that I stopped playing Destiny and Destiny 2 was that I ran out of things to do and then didn't have the motivation to return when the next DLC came out and the games got better. I'm hoping that Anthem has enough content out of the gate to keep me steadily engaged. I believe Bioware has said they plan on making Anthem last for years by providing a steady stream of new content. Let's hope they can deliver on it!

Can't blame anyone for returning Atlas.

I'm looking forward to The Division 2 for it's co-op potential.

I really wasn't sold on Sekiro. I didn't think it looked very good graphically but I'm getting more excited the more I see. My favourite fights in Dark Souls and Bloodborne are the human scale characters with incredible move sets (I'm looking at you Artorias, you bastard.) Many of the enemies in the game seem to be of that type. I could do without the fountains of blood and multiplayer was my fall back for bosses I hated fighting, so it's exclusion is a little worrying, but it sounds like you can 'level up' to get tougher which helped in Bloodborne.

I'd like to see The Last of Us Part 2 but I'm fully down with them getting the game right even if that takes us into 2020.

I have Eitr on my wishlist. I still believe!

Well, is anyone here who's eagerly waiting for the CyberPunk 2077?
Meanwhile I got my custom Rig ready for the game! boom!!!
