Year of Trek

Soap. Earl Grey. Scented.

I used to say "I like the smell of [blank], but I don't want the inside of my car to constantly smell like it." Now I should probably say the same about my armpits.

You’ll change your tune after all the hotties start trying to break into your car because they smell the Axe air freshener hanging from your rearview.

I just want Patrick Stewart to sign a bunch of those things and auction them so the proceeds can go help civilians in [insert your favorite war-torn country / region here].

100% yes.

Voyager has reminded how everyone in Trek is a super close-talker and it freaks me out a little.

Yeah, I always talk 8 inches away from my boss when I'm brainstorming!

They don't always do it but when they do it's unsettling.

It's the 4:3 aspect ratio.

In order to keep all the actors in frame, they have to be shoved far closer together than normal people would in those situations. It was true of a lot of TV shows before widescreen came about.

farley3k posted this in the "Post an Image" thread and it just has to be shared here too

My crochet hobby is progressing nicely... maybe it's time to learn how to knit?

S2E6: Holy f*ck am I sick of Neelix and the way he treats Kes.

Fixed for me

Yeah sorry that doesn't get better.

I disagree; it gets better when

Spoiler:

they break up, and again when Kes leaves the show.

Which is unfortunate, I wish they'd found something interesting to do with her character, but they never really did.

I meant the Neelix/Kes thing never gets better. It ends yes, but it never improves.

There's just no real chemistry between Neelix and Kes. He does jealousy well, but that's the only part of the relationship that feels believable.

I'm rewatching Discovery in anticipation of the final season and I just about spit at this scene. All I can say is that it did NOT age well

Someone on Reddit said that Lorca mentioning Elon Musk was a subtle reference that he's from the Mirror Universe... I don't know if that's true but it certainly seems like it now

Tilly said she attended Elon Musk High School in a different episode, so probably no, it's not true.

Collectively we didn't know as much about Musk back then, c'mon.

Oh I know, that's why I said it didn't age well. Back in 2017 (has it really been 7 years?!) when DISCO launched we all, Musk included, thought he was a real life Tony Stark. He hadn't bought Twitter yet, the Boring Company was making headlines as well as Tesla. No one knew, or if they did they weren't talking about it, how much of an asshat he really is back then.

Honestly, they should have picked another historical figure... it's never a good policy to name-drop a currently alive person in a sci-fi series. We really don't know anything about them until they pass and there's good potential, like here, for it to be very cringy in hindsight

The Expanse had a very Musky character but they had the good sense to disassemble him atom by atom over Venus. It was not really a statement about him though. His character was irreverent and charming, just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Man, I have ONE episode left of The Expanse to watch, but I don't want to because that means its over for good

But. I did just start reading the books so at least I'll know how it's supposed to end. Eventually. There's a LOT of books

Janeway is STILL telling engineering how to do their jobs. D:

At least Raymond Tusk in House of Cards turned out to be a criminal that was subverting democracy.

That character was already in the book though. They didn’t have to shoehorn him in.

Wait, are we talking about Miller? I didn't think he was very Musk-like? Or is there something that happens on Venus in the books with a different character that I don't know about yet?

I think they are talking about Julie Mao's Father, who's name I can't remember off the top of my head. Miller was the down at heel detective

Jules-Pierre Mao. He went to prison.
