Year of Trek

May you walk with the prophets.

A comment I saw in an article about her said something to the effect that she somehow turned the term "My child" into the most condescending expression in the English language.

I did want to punch her through the screen every time she said it.

Tonight's episode of Lower Decks might be my new favorite. I cried with joy.

Where in the hell are they going to get legacy cameos to top this episode?

Not sure they can, in my eyes. Then again Kira is my all-time favorite Trek character.

‘Just keep circling’

It was pretty cool

Holy sh*t.

Thanks for the P1, ThatGuy42, but you might want to consider drinking more responsibly.

Hah I just came here to say the same thing!

My struggles with alcoholism are public record. I am not ashamed. Honestly, I've done way worse while drunk than buying a P1 for a podcast I love and forgetting. RatBoy knows.

RatBoy knows more than he wants to, I think.

The makers of these vids has gotten so good at blending the bloopers with the aired episode that it gets harder and harder to spot the cut and paste.

Not the same channel, but the topic appeals to me.

Not enough struts, Jean-Luc.

I asked ChatGPT to write a speech by the Borg to the inhabitants of Earth, whom they are about to assimilate. What it came up with reads as though the Borg had hired a present-day PR rep.

Greetings, inhabitants of Earth. We are the Borg, a collective of assimilated beings from across the galaxy.

We have come to your planet with one purpose: to integrate you into our collective. We do not come to destroy or enslave you, but rather to offer you the gift of assimilation.

Through assimilation, you will gain access to our vast technological knowledge and expertise. You will become stronger, faster, and more efficient. You will become like us, a part of the Borg collective.

Some of you may resist our offer. You may be afraid of losing your individuality, of becoming part of something greater than yourselves. But let us assure you, assimilation is not a loss, but a gain.

As a part of the Borg collective, you will be connected to every other member, sharing thoughts, experiences, and knowledge. You will be able to access the collective consciousness, and tap into the combined intelligence and wisdom of thousands of species.

You will also be protected from the dangers of the universe. The Borg are a powerful and unstoppable force, and as a part of us, you will be safe from harm.

So we urge you, do not resist. Embrace assimilation and join us in the collective. Together, we will achieve greatness and unlock the full potential of the universe.

We are the Borg. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

F*** it, I'm in!

I did one this weekend asking for a story about the Yuzhaan Vong (from star wars) and it told me a story that was surprisingly accurate to the lore.

Funny how an AI made the Borg seem so appealing.

JUST SAYING!

That's astonishing NSMike. Was your input literally just "give a speech to Earth as the Borg?" Or did you have to do much more to get something so coherent?

The prompt was literally, "Write a speech by the Borg to the inhabitants of Earth, whom they are about to assimilate."

That was the first response it generated.

If you're curious about what the GPT AI text generator is capable of outside of this simpler chat bot, Tom Scott has a great video about it:

Amazing. Thanks

And this video is almost 2 years old. The GPT AI has gotten a lot better since then.

You're hero starship might blow up, but there's another one just around the corner.
