Sounds like a problem with my switch then.

So after an Amazon-worth of nectars, I'm finally on friendlier terms with Dusa.
Had to pony up a couple of Ambrosias, but I've finally got my first companion.

Something that annoyed me is that Skelly explicitly tells you NOT to give more nectars to NPCs after the 1st bottle because nothing will come of it. That's misleading AF...

Also, I demand a DLC where I can talk Asterius into beating the livingun-dead crap out of Theseus, for real.

10/10 would buy.

Update: The same thing happened in a Hades run in Tartarus. So it’s either a bug or I need a new right joycon. Time to see if it happens in another game.

It's a long shot but just in case: If Aphrodite is the spurned deity in one of those "choose 1 of 2 gods" there is a heart floating around that will stun you for a second or two, much like the stone status. That can show up anywhere.

Gah. Had my first loss with Stubborn Roots last night. Doing a sword run and things were going so smooth so I tried to get a prophecy done, equipping a certain keepsake that gave 0 help with the last area or final fight.

Ran into a rough room or two on the final stage and lost a defiance, maybe 2. Can't quite remember. But still got to final boss in decent shape. Got to 2nd phase and was down to last defiance. Had crystal cast, so I was trying to just avoid and play keep away to heal. Almost made it, boss down to 10% or so. And I died on a random wave or something. Didn't even see it to try to dodge.

Also there was a prophecy to win with all the different mirror upgrades. I just did that on a whim yesterday, respec and flipped every one to the opposite of what I had used. And equipped broken tooth for final stage for extra defiance. But after doing that I found that I liked some of the alternates. So I was still using some of them on that boss fight I lost and now I'm questioning my choices...

One in particular in struggling with: extra dash vs 50% dodge with dash. There are times when 2 dashes isn't enough and I'm hit anyway so the dodge seems helpful. But then I ran into that Asphodel mini boss with the flying partner. I could not dodge it for anything. There's one hit when it lands, then one short AOE ring, then another large delayed AOE. With only one dodge, I could not avoid all of the 3 attacks. That mini boss had been so easy every other time with 2 dashes, that really shook me. So maybe I should go back to 2 dash? Any thoughts?

Also unsure on 3 casts vs one cast that regenerates. Not having to retrieve casts has been refreshing but I wonder if putting 3 crystals out at once I could have beat boss easily on that sword run. Thoughts?

I've avoided regenerating casts thus far - mostly because I often end up with a buff for every cast gem inside an enemy, and regenerating casts seem to work against that.

Ooh yeah good point on that. Having 3 or 4 casts lodged in a boss can be several % more damage. Think I might switch that one back.

That's one I switch back and forth on sometimes. The regenerating cast can be really nice for certain builds, like the Hera bow. Investing blood into that weapon makes it spit out the crystals more quickly, but if you just use the regenerating cast, you bypass the limitations of leaving it at level 1 and can save your blood for other aspects.

Also, any spells that don't lodge into the opponent (Demeter, Ares, Dio) can be more safely spammed on ranged weapons without having to dash in to retrieve crystals.

Heck should I be planning my run before I start? I just go with whatever weapon is 20% and see what happens. I have rarely used god keepsakes to try to tailor boons.

Hah run 66 was something else. Defeated final boss without getting hit. Just a simple shield run with Demeter crystal cast fully maxed. But I had a rough time early getting things to gel and lost some defiance on hydra and in some random battles in Elysium. Equipped my Skelly keepsake and had to use it after some random fights on final area. So I was down to my last life and 125 health. But won easily blocking everything boss threw at me while 3 crystals destroyed him. Fun times.

I still can't get shield hidden aspect to unlock. Anyone else got that or had and problems with it?

Demeter's crystal turrets are how i got to end credits. Definitely easy mode!

They track real slow and I dodge a lot. I find their time-on-target is too low unless I'm devoting my entire gameplay to babysitting them. They're powerful, for sure, but you gotta work for it and make sure they hit.

That said, "hide behind the shield with Demeter's cast" is up there with "put Hangover on the bow special with the homing arrows" as far as powerful combos go.

you can also drop them (especially with the fast cast boon) and draw your enemies into the beams. without the boon it's a little slow but it can be a VERY safe way to whittle down a boss.

That would be what I meant by "babysitting them."

One of the great things about this game is how many different play styles are supported. Like, the bow is easily my best weapon, while fists are in the bottom two (I was worse with the sword until I got the hidden aspect). Meanwhile a good friend of mine is tearing it up with the fists and can't make the bow work for the life of him. He loves Demeter's dash because he's always using it to get in. I never use the boon because I'm always headed sideways or away from the enemies. So to each of us it seems like there's a clear hierarchy to the boons and weapons, but we completely disagree with each other. It's kind of impressive that SuperGiant pulled that off.

The crystals are amazing. I got them with chill, fast tracking, chill damage and 10 burst chill. Last boss was such a cake walk.

Been watching the dialogue I missed on YouTube. There so much and it's all good. Damn.

Good thing there are boons that speed up tracking, fire rate, Crystal time, and will automatically return to you. I had a build with all them. Rapid dropped all of them while dashing around attacking everything else.

Now the auto-returning crystals are one that I don't really grock. I'm basically always moving anyway so it's not hard to just swing around and pick them up. And since I'm probably taking a circuitous route back to them, having them try to home in on me doesn't help that much.

Honestly, I'm not really happy with my cast unless the blood crystals are hanging out somewhere useful calling down lightning bolts on anything nearby.

Has anybody figured out how to use Aphrodite's cast? I find it to be way too short range but see my earlier comments about bow vs. sword or fists...

Yeah I guess I should have been more clear what I meant by fully upgraded.

Meant that I had the Demeter cast time up +chill boon and the Artemis duo faster tracking boon. Nothing changing the way crystal acts, just making it better.

It looks like there's other boons that combo with it like Poseidon where they actually move. And one time I got the Aphrodite duo where the cast tracks you instead of the enemies. That was weird.

Spoiler:

I believe Chaos gives you the unlocking phrase, so it could be easy to miss if you're risk averse

Yeah I've been there multiple times. Now that I'm in post credits game, I've been trying to work on

Spoiler:

Nyx and Chaos relationship.

The wiki has a key paragraph where said NPC acknowledges that you are carrying the shield and I think I finally got that dialog last night. So maybe in the next few runs I will finally get the passphrase.

Edit: yes, next run they finally said it. So next run will try the final aspect finally.

Some of the unlock options can be maddeningly RNG-based. I've seen the epilogue, have over 100 runs, and am up to baseline heat 10 with the gloves. I still don't have the hidden gloves aspect.

How it works is once you fulfill the requirements, the phrase is added to the queue. If there are already a bunch in front, it can take a while to get to the phrase.
