Prepare for a hardcore depiction of combat with deadly ballistics, light attack vehicles, destructive artillery, and HDR audio putting the fear back into the genre.

Game launches on December 12th. They had an open beta over the weekend.

I bought the game a couple of months ago, and at that time, the performance was pretty atrocious. But this past weekend's open beta ran extremely well.

I'm not sure exactly what it is yet, but this game is clicking for me, whereas the original Insurgency was always a near-miss, a game I felt like I should like more than I actually did. (Though it still was a criminally underrated gem)

Your standards have been lowered thanks to the Bork.

I have been playing a lot of normal Insurgency lately, so please let me know how you all are liking this. I play coop/checkpoint only, as it's the one that seems to make people play like a team the most. Mostly I have been playing a mod that adds medics and engineers, which again I like because it seems to make people want to be very team-like.

So uh, how team-like you all are finding the new one is a bit more important to me than any sweet, sweet graphics...

Impressions?

Sandstorm is pretty much Insurgency 2.0.

Anyone that wants more of what the first game had is going to find it here.

The biggest differences seem to be:
* new engine (Unreal 4) and the visual and performance characteristics that come with that
* more realistic ballistics (Source Engine only did hitscan bullets, this game features travel time, bullet drop, and ricochets)
* vehicles (pickup truck with mounted weapon, AI-powered air support that can be called in, etc)

Game modes, etc are all very familiar. It's really like Insurgency's version of CS:GO - just a new, more up to date implementation of the same game for the community to move to.

This game ran pretty poorly in beta, and got a big performance update before release that made a huge difference... but it's still like one performance patch away from being totally amazing. It runs great about 98% of the time, but that last 2% are some heinous half-second framerate drops. Seems to be related to texture loading, but they have not nailed down the solution yet.

The game is great. I think it's a nice step between Battlefield and Escape from Tarkov. It's still a little sniper heavy in my opinion, but that really forces you to use smoke and indoors for cover and move forward aggressively. I'm mixed on machine guns being next to useless unless prone or braced against a firing point, but it's certainly realistic. Not a lot of real world hip firing of an LMG, that being said the M249 can be reasonably fired shoulder aimed in real world conditions.

I enjoyed Insurgency quite a bit. Though, it never caught on with my gaming circle. For me personally, I stopped playing CS, Battlefield, and CoD franchises quite a while ago - just not my jam anymore. This game really was the kind of shooter I wanted to play more and more.

I'm pretty happy with the early look at this game. I'll admit that I have hesitated on the buy button for this one. I'm not sure I can give you a good reason.

I will likely be enabled via this thread.

The game is great. Most of the players are toxic scumbags. My experience was constant racist and sexist comments on voice chat, along with bullying and mocking people who are learning the game. I quit after a couple of weeks because it made me feel gross to play.

Really? I haven't played recently but in the early beta last year I had nothing but good experiences. Bummer

So I re-installed and logged in to play a few games to double-check. Multiple homophobic comments, players cursing at other players with female avatars, players yelling at other players who didn't play well. It's your basic dudebro crowd, or at least it was for me.

Insurgency was like that, too. I learned to ignore it as much as I could, and stuck to servers that weeded that type of thing out.

Admittedly, I probably did log as many hours as I could have due to this... but I still put time into the game - both coop and mp.

I will eventually get Sandstorm, in spite of what I'm expecting along the lines of what you experienced.
