I'm keen to hear more from Sean's empire building in X4. I never managed to get beyond a 'pressing my nose against the glass' 6-8 hours in a couple of the X3 games. I suspect I'd do no better this time round, but it's great to hear stories from someone who's got the system a bit more figured out.

Definitely watch his YouTube vids. I think what grabbed me the most was when he demonstrated that you can spacewalk out of your ship and fix the thing yourself.

I may have been the source for the kidnapping story (not sure, as a few other folks have had similar experiences).

Largely, I'm loving X4. There are some issues with the economic simulation, as documented in the X4 thread in the forums, but it's also attractively put together and generally quite fun. It's MUCH more approachable than X3 was -- while the tutorials are pretty rough, you don't technically need to do any one other than the scanning tutorial (which kicks off the main quest).

As a minor X3 veteran, I'm 14 hours into X4 and already have a number of ships, including a mining fleet and a trading fleet, along with escorts for each. I'm flying a kitted out fighter, and have had good luck in combat so far with the pirates, Kha'ak, and Xenon. If anything, combat and trading are TOO easy -- I'm hoping that the difficulty is increased significantly and the AI rewritten to be more intelligent as Egosoft continues to pour time and resources into the game. In under a week, they've already released 3 significant patches, which has been great to see.

You folks know that when you talk about Mass Effect, you're basically summoning me, right? Was giggling at the talk of going without any of the romances, and I can totally see the reasoning behind not wanting to fraternize with team members, this is why this always gets to me:

I get you, Shepard. I don’t make a habit of complicating the chain of command. Just think about what I said.

^^

For the record, I love 10,000,000 and You - Must - Build - A - Boat; I'm totally getting Photographs when it comes out.
