The GWJ JRPG Club Version 2.5 HD Remaster: Now Voting for our Q2 2024 game!

I have my original copy. If you want to buy it digitally, it's playable on PSP, Vita, PS3. If you just want to stay morally in the right, you could just buy the digital copy then play it anywhere via an emulator. There's even a bugfix patch out for the game.

Oh and nominated, Suikoden II.

Seconded I think I still have my completed Suikoden I save data on my PS3, too.

I'll second Digimon: Cyber Sleuth. It's been in my pile for a while so I wouldn't mind giving it a go.

I'll nominate Persona 4 which I've also been meaning to get to.

I have a Suikoden 2 save I am about halfway through that I started after we played Suikoden 1 for the club years ago. I kept meaning to finish it but never really got back to picking up my Vita to play it.

Does a save from Suikoden 1 carry over or unlock anything good? I think I'm maybe a third to halfway through.

Info taken from here:

  • Characters will get a level bonus for every returning character from Suikoden I. The bonus is based on every ten levels over Lv. 60 the character was in Suikoden I's save file.
  • Weapon Levels are also altered based on the old save with returning characters gaining higher starting weapons levels if their old save counterparts have weapon levels between 12-16.
  • Tir and Humphrey can transfer some equipment between games. Tir can transfer most of his armor and some of his headgear, Humphrey can transfer the Windspun Armor if it was given to him.
  • Runes were also meant to transfer but a glitch prevents this from working.
  • If the old save contains data of collecting all 108 Stars of Destiny, then Gremio will appear in the game alive and traveling with Tir, this also nets the player Recipe #39 which is for Gremio's signature Special Stew.
  • The player's name for McDohl, barring the name glitch, will appear in Old Book Vol. 7.

I'm pretty sure there is a fan patch somewhere that fixes save game transfer glitches.

I'll second Persona 4! The prospect of another SMT-family game will give me some added motivation to finish SMT V this month.

Nominated and Seconded:
Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book (PC, PS4, Vita; 35.5 - 44 hours)
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (Switch, PC, PS4, Vita, 50.5 - 67 hours)
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark (PC, Switch, PS4; 37.5 - 51.5 hours)
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III (Switch, PC, PS4; 61.5 - 99 hours)
Persona 4 (PC, PS4, PS2, Vita, XBox; 64.5 - 84.5 hours)
Radiant Historia (3DS, DS; 29 - 44.5 hours)
Suikoden II (PS1; 33.5 - 43 hours)
Tales of Berseria (PC, PS3, PS4; 44.5 - 67 hours)

I don't have a nomination this time but I wondered if anyone else is getting the new PS Plus Extra offering? There are quite a few JRPGs on the list. I haven't looked through everything but noticed Ys 8 and 9, Final Fantasy 7 through to 12 and 15, and various CyberConnect games (Death End Request etc).

I'm not on PS Plus, but that sounds pretty good!

Last call for nominations! The window closes tonight.

We have a great list though. We'll do a Pick 5 round to winnow this down to the true contenders.

All right, time for the Pick 5 round! If you’re new to this, we winnow the field to make sure we’re voting on games that a majority of the club will play, and to make ranked choice voting a bit easier to administer. Vote for up to five games from the following list!

Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III
Persona 4
Radiant Historia
Suikoden II
Tales of Berseria

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III
Persona 4
Radiant Historia
Suikoden II

Thanks for grouping my picks together

Radiant Hysteria
Suikoden II
Fell Seal: Albatross Mark

Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
Persona 4
Radiant Historia

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
Persona 4

Gotta vote for the ones I own:

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
Persona 4
Radiant Historia
Tales of Berseria

Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
Persona 4
Suikoden II
Tales of Berseria

Persona 4
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
Tales of Berseria

My own votes:

Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
Persona 4
Radiant Historia
Tales of Berseria

Current Standings
Persona 4 - 7
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark - 5
Radiant Historia - 4
Tales of Berseria - 4
Suikoden II - 3
Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book - 3
--
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - 2
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III - 3

If voting stopped now, Suikoden and Atelier Sophie would go on to the final round tied for 5th. But with 8 people voting (so far), and Persona 4 on 7 of their list, it becomes the early favorite. And Fell Seal is poised to make a run at being our next game, as well.

Plenty of time to vote, and even an extra one vote here and there could really swing the list.

My pick 5:

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III
Persona 4
Radiant Historia

Here are my picks:

Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III
Suikoden II
Tales of Berseria

Edit: Just noticed you had Cold Steel 2 on your list, but we already played that one and 3 was what was nominated.

Whoops, that's a typo. I must have deleted an extra I while cutting out the platforms and the HowLongToBeat times. Thanks for the correction; I've fixed it, above.

I also had incorrectly recorded the number of votes for CS III (I recorded 3 votes, should have been 2 -- bobbywatson and ComfortZone).

New Standings - if we stopped now, a 3-way tie for 5th would knock out those tied games.
Persona 4 - 8
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark - 7
Radiant Historia - 5
Tales of Berseria - 5
--
Suikoden II - 4
Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book - 4
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III - 4
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - 3

My first post here as I don't normally play JRPG's, but I've had Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark downloaded and ready to play for a while.

So, my vote:
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark

Welcome Neutrino! Glad you might join us.

I only own one of these game and I still haven't finished Cold Steel II so going to throw my vote for

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark

One more day to vote, and send your preferred game through to the finals!

Looks like Fell Seal is on sale on Steam for 75% off until tomorrow morning (about 13 hours left as I write this) and 66% off on Play Station for the next 3.5 hours and has a good following on it in the pick 5.

Steam summer sale is starting today, so I expect it will still be on sale for a few more days.

A big Switch sale just began, and Fell Seal's 66% off over there (marked down from $30 to $10.12). The DLC's 50% off, too.

A lot of their 1st party games are discounted as well, which is not a JRPG thing but is pretty infrequent.
