The GWJ JRPG Super Club 2.IVR: GWJ-Street 20XX: Welcome to No. Z Grind Theater! - Q3 2020 nominations in progress!

I'll vote for the only two that I own:

1. Trails of Cold Steel
2. Breath of Fire IV

That was my strategy, but I only have Trails through PS Now, and it just occurred to me that the publisher might yank it when the remaster releases.

The trials of the Trails.

Nice! What are you particularly excited for?

I wish Breath of Fire IV were available on the PS4, I'd love to try it. But I have none of the right systems to play it, other than a PS2 that I could use to play PS1 disks.

BoFIV is playable on PSP, Vita and PS3 as well if you have access to one of those.

Nope, don’t have any of those!

Android?, IOS?, old laptop? PS Mini?

I do have an iPhone (and a laptop, too -- not old, but I guess I could play it on PC). Is it available on iOS?

As far as I know, it was only ever released on PS1 and PC. I think JohnKillo was referring to running the game on a PS1 emulator (either on a laptop or an Android phone).

My votes for this quarter:

  • Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
  • NieR: Automata
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
  • Xenoblade Chronicles
  • The Last Remnant

Yes. You can emulate it on a number of things. IOS has some emulators you don't need to jail break to get running.

Bump! For anyone who hasn't yet voted, voting will be open until Saturday, March 23, at 10 p.m. (UTC -4).

1. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
2. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

I've been thinking of playing them both for a while now but need that extra push!

Thanks for all the votes so far!

Both LastSurprise and I compiled the results separately, and so far it looks like Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is going to win.

I will formally announce the result tomorrow night!

Beat Bravely Default 2nd, so that's another game that sadly won't be appear on my list in future votes. But one more game off the JRPG backlog!

Hey, congrats! I'm going to be returning to it later this year, I think. I stopped right around the battle with Geist, and I remember the game well enough that I don't plan to start over from the beginning.

More thoughts over on the JRPG thread for anyone interested. The game gets quite a bit better past the mid point (you'll know it when you get to it).

Btw, if only I could get partial credit for my club level ;).

It's time, folks! (I know, it's a bit earlier than anticipated, but I woke up at 4AM this morning and I don't think I can stay up until 10PM.)

After three rounds of elimination, and after being on the ballot for quite a while, the winner is.....

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

Details of each round available in the next spoiler section for those of you who are curious!

The game is available on the following platforms:

  • Playstation 3
  • Playstation Vita/Playstation TV*
  • PC (Steam and GoG)
  • PS4 (available March 26th, 2019)

* Needs a patch to play on PSTV, though I suspect I'm the only one stupid enough to have one of those around here

Thanks to everyone who voted! LastSurprise and I are looking forward to playing the game with you in Q2!

Small note: Atlus has announced a new Persona concert (in Japan) with a name so stupidly awesome that I just had to use it for this thread title (with some GWJ-specific enhancements provided by steinkrug).

Hurray!!

Do I get the credit already having finished it this year :)? Also Freeze is probably the best status effect against enemies.

One of the best features is that you can retry some hard fights and weaken them too so there is no strong reason to grind against enemies.

Fie is the fastest member in your party. She is the best.

Jsuis is my boy. He seems the best written other than Rean. I actual kind of enjoyed his

relationship with Rean.

It has a better pace so far than 2.

Trails of Cold Steel looks like a great game. I'm not sure I'll have the space in the next three months to make it through though, as it looks like a pretty long journey, and my work tends to be busiest April-June. I'd like to join if I can, but it might depend on how long the CRPG game ends up being.

In either case, I'll be reading along though, and look forward to hearing people's experiences with the game. It certainly gets strong reviews!

The thread for Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is now up! Any discussion regarding the game should now happen in that thread!

Have fun, everyone!

Joking. BobbyW said it was not up.

Oh! Haha. I just read right past that.

Good catch! Thanks, I'll fix it right away!

I think it's been installed on my Vita for almost 2 years now :).

I bought it the day it was released in English... and then never played it. The same happened with the sequel. That used to be my modus operandi. Luckily I'm more careful with my purchases now.

Huzzah!

This is exactly what I needed to make me play a game I bought on release on Vita, then added to steam wishlist as soon as it was on steam...and haven't played much (I played like week one when I got it and none sense). When is voting/nominations for the next quarter. Not rushing the process, I just want to make sure I don't miss it.

Typically we start three weeks before the start of the next quarter. LastSurprise and I have not discussed the dates for Q3 yet (we probably won't until late May) but, the nominating/voting period should be around the middle of June.

We typically try to give players at least a week between announcing the results and the beginning of the quarter so they can either re-download or buy the game before the official start (although we did it earlier in December so folks could take advantages of end-of-year sales). The threads are usually up a few days before the official start, in case some people want to get ahead.

We will announce the final dates here once we agree on them.

If you tend to check in on the threads that you’ve starred, or the threads in which you’ve posted, I’m sure you’ll see it when voting opens.

Also, the top five runners up will automatically be re-nominated, so there’s a decent chance one of those will win. But we’re also always open to something new!
