The GWJ JRPG Club Version 2.5 HD Remaster: Now Voting for our Q2 2024 game!

I have all three Shadow Hearts games in my backlog. I also have Skies of Arcadia Legends, but I've already beaten that one (possibly multiple times, I can't really remember).

I have Skies of Arcadia Legends and would absolutely love to play it again, but my GameCube is dead. I've actually been trying to figure out the best way to play it off and on for a while but have never followed through.

It runs really well in Dolphin.

Skies of Arcadia on the GameCube was absolutely one of those top games of my youth, but unfortunately is on the list of games I sold to GameStop that I wish I could take back. Due to happenstance, I actually have a copy for the Dreamcast now, but I hear the encounter rate is abysmally high on that platform. If we went that route, I would probably go with bobbywatson’s idea.

Yeah. Every time I look into it, that seems like the most viable option.

I was listening to a podcast yesterday and the hosts were discussing what the best way to play Panzer Dragoon Saga at this point was, and they were going down the route of buying some extra hardware to plug into their Saturns, and all I could think of was "Just emulate the damn thing". It may not be 100% exactly like to playing to original, but it's close enough that most people wouldn't notice the difference, and it's much cheaper (if you can somehow get the game itself).

I'll second Arc the Lad if needed. I've been curious about that one for a while.

Honestly, outside of playing it on a REALLY nice CRT, emulation is easily the way to go. It's nice to use the original controllers, but that's rarely a big enough deal for me to bother trying to play older games on the intended hardware.

Plus, save states, resolution, community patches etc. Emulation is far more appealing to me.

I won't nominate anything but fingers crossed for Fell Seal. It might be in the running over in the strategy club thread too by the looks. A possible club crossover?

Also have Radiant Historia on 3ds so up for trying that out if picked.

I'm thinking the same, since afaik we've never had a crossover event in the clubs before. I think we've flirted with it before with Dragon's Dogma getting traction in the JRPG and CRPG clubs at the same time, but it didn't come very close at the end, and neither club ended up selected it. Fell Seal also came close to winning last time in the strategy club, so it has a reasonable change.

All right folks, one day late but thanks for bearing with me! Based on the timing here, I’ll push the other deadlines back by a day. Time to Pick Five!

Nominated and Seconded:
Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits (PS4, PS2, also probably Vita)
Blue Reflection (PS4, Windows, Vita)
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark (Switch, PS4, Windows)
Final Fantasy VI (many platforms; any version)
Odin Sphere (PS4, PS3, PS2, PS Vita)
Radiant Historia (DS / 3DS)
SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (3DS)
Yakuza 0 (PS4, Xbox, Windows)

Also over the next few weeks my time’s likely to be very heavily consumed by work and by some non-gaming extra-curriculars, so please bear with me if posts are slow!

Spoiler:

In real life I’m a lawyer and have a trial coming up. Specifically, I’m a federal prosecutor in the USA, and I’m handling a bunch of cases arising out of the events of Jan. 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol. Not something I will write about at length on a public forum, even a niche one like this, but also very much a major part of my life that I want to share.

I think it was FF6 and not FF4 that was nominated.

That said,

Fell Seal: Arbiters Mark
FF6
Radiant Historia
Yakuza 0

Also,

Spoiler:

neat!

Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
FF6

Final Fantasy VI
Radiant Historia
SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Yakuza 0

You're absolutely right! Fixed.

Here's my Pick 5:

Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
Final Fantasy VI
Radiant Historia
SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers

And best of luck with everything you've got going on, LastSurprise!

Mine:

Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
Final Fantasy VI
Odin Sphere
Radiant Historia

Final Fantasy VI
Radiant Historia
SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers

And keep fighting the good fight, LastSurprise.

SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Radiant Historia
Fell Seal
Blue Reflection

Here's my five. Radiant Historia and Soul Hackers sound interesting but I want to leave my 3DS stored away forever if I can avoid it.

Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits
Blue Reflection
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
Final Fantasy VI
Odin Sphere

Take care of yourself LastSurprise!

First should note:
Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits - not on Vita.

My pick 5:
Blue Reflection
Final Fantasy VI
Odin Sphere
Radiant Historia
SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (3DS)

Here you go, just those I own...

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
Radiant Historia
Yakuza 0

Final Fantasy VI
Radiant Historia
Yakuza 0

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
Final Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VI
Yakuza 0

Good to know, thanks! Can it be streamed to Vita from a PS4? I've never owned a Vita so I don't really know how that works.

Our Standings So Far, line indicates cutoff (extra game in right now with a tie for 5th).

Radiant Historia - 8
Final Fantasy VI - 7
Fell Seal: Arbiters Mark - 6
SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers - 4
Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits - 3
Yakuza 0 - 3
--
Blue Reflection - 2
Odin Sphere - 2

Numbers seem a little off as I see three votes for Blue Reflection (Malkroth, Mr GT Chris, Unicycle) and Odin Sphere (Malkroth, Mr GT Chris, LastSurprise). Maybe mine was messed up because I forgot to remove the platforms from my list originally.

I very easily could have missed something. I’ll run them again.

Blue Reflection
FF VI

New standings, updated and double-checked. Line indicates the cutoff.

Final Fantasy VI - 12
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark - 8
Radiant Historia - 9
SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers - 5
Yakuza 0 - 5
---
Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits - 4
Blue Reflection - 4
Odin Sphere - 3

Unless voting changes in the final round, this will end up being a 3-game race, as Yakuza and SMT will likely fall short of the ability to capture a majority of voters, no matter what happens. FF VI is looking like the odds-on favorite to win.

Also per my earlier comment we'll keep this round open until tomorrow night.
