The GWJ JRPG Club Version 2.5 HD Remaster: Now Voting for our Q2 2024 game!

Huh I haven’t gotten mine yet. Weird.

I’m confident that I’ll have a lot more hours than you guys. The PS4 has probably been my primary console over the past few years.

I did not get mine in my emails. I googled ‘playstation year in review’, found a post on the Playstation blog with a link in it.

PS4/PS5 only unfortunately!

I got it on my phone when I opened the PlayStation app, but if you log into your account on the website, there's a big banner for it at the top of the page currently.

Yes, they unfortunately don't really mention the Vita anymore, which is a shame since it was a far superior portable to the 3DS.

Not quite as many hours as I thought! Must have spent a more time, relatively, on the Switch and PC.

Malkroth, looking at your hours, I'm remembering how deep you dived into The Alliance Alive, and how much you explored.

Now that I see your hours are half mine and you mention it, I am reminded I really did dig into every little corner of that game. It seemed like there should be so much more there to tease out and see, but much of the loose threads they set up led to nothing. It was a good and fun game, but definitely did not have a fully fleshed world to explore.

Now Ys VIII is finished I can try to make some progress on NnK. I've also started up LOH: Trails from Zero so we'll see how much that gets in the way!

Congrats! I believe our theme for Ys VIII finishes was regular / normal battle music. Here's an absolute banger that I've been loving, from Shin Megami Tensei V:

In counting up our finishers, I somehow missed that I had already given Da'at to Wembley. That's how much I like the track, I guess. But I do not recycle tracks! Everyone gets their own bespoke JRPG track as a reward for finishing. So Mr GT Chris, I instead present you with this excellent audio from Dragon Quest V -- perhaps the series' best battle music.

And congratulations to walterqchocobo for finishing Ys VIII, as well! To celebrate, here's the battle theme from Tales of Zestiria. This one gets me ready to fight:

Leveled up Malkroth and me, for finishing Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch!

I'll have to think about a song theme for this quarter . . .

Congrats to Wembley, our 3rd finisher for Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch!

I hate to be that guy, but when will we start voting for Q2?

Glad you guys enjoyed this game

Aah, I am behind the ball! Sorry everyone, life has been busy (mostly for good reasons) and I've been just trying to keep my head above water.

Most everyone here knows how it works. So, let's officially open up nominations now, and I'll come back in later (after work) with a timeline.

I nominate Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark. It's a FFT clone, so I think it would qualify for the club.

Hmm... There's two games I really want to play next and am having trouble deciding which one I want to nominate. Really interested in trying out the Atelier series and own Atelier Sophie so that's high on my list, but I think the other one is going to win out this month.

So I am going to nominate Blue Reflection which is available on PS4, Windows, and Vita.

Edit: I will also second Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark.

With the Pixel Remaster just having been released, what about Final Fantasy VI?

Seconding

Coming back in with our timetable:

Nominations: Until Sunday, March 20, at about 9 p.m. U.S. Eastern
Pick X Round (Narrow by about Half): Until Wednesday, March 23, at about 9 p.m. U.S. Eastern
Ranked Choice Voting: Until Saturday, March 26, at about 9 p.m. U.S. Eastern
New Game: Announced shortly thereafter!

Nominated and Seconded
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark (Switch, PS4, Windows)
Final Fantasy IV (many platforms; any version)

Nominated:
Blue Reflection (PS4, Windows, Vita)

I will nominate Yakuza 0. I've been meaning to play it for some time now (and also it's currently on sale on Steam, but also available on PS4 and Xbox).

Ill second Yakuza 0

Soul Hackers (DS or otherwise).

I think it's pretty cheap on the eShop and it's a good pickup before that stops selling games.

I'll also second Blue Reflection + Fell Seal both are on my to-play list.

I’ll second Soul Hackers.

Still struggling to think of a nomination.

Mr GT Chris always has great taste in JRPGs thankyou!

No worries!

OK, I'll nominate Odin Sphere.

Seeing the relative love for Souls Hackers (which I thankfully bought on the Atlus sale on 3DS late last year), I'm going to nominate an oft-forgotten gem:

Radiant Historia (NDS/3DS)

It's a long shot, I know.

I will second Radiant Historia!

I will third Radiant Historia!

Bounced off it initially due to how much dialogue there was, but I'm keen to try again.

I'll second Odin Sphere. And, I'll nominate Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. I played this one during the summer between college and law school, and loved it. Haven't tried other games in the series, and I gather this one's a bit different, but I remember enjoying the dual-protagonist story and the (mostly) free movement on the map during combat.

Nominated and Seconded:
Blue Reflection (PS4, Windows, Vita)
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark (Switch, PS4, Windows)
Final Fantasy IV (many platforms; any version)
Odin Sphere (PS4, PS3, PS2, PS Vita)
Radiant Historia (DS / 3DS)
SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (3DS)
Yakuza 0 (PS4, Xbox, Windows)

Nominated:
Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits (PS4, PS2, also probably Vita)

Also, just out of curiosity, how many people here in the club have Skies of Arcadia Legends (Gamecube) or Shadow Hearts Covenant (PS2) in their libraries? I got most of the way through each of them, years ago, and they've been on my backlog forever. I think they'd be great games to play with the club. But, both are now collectors items, and I'd feel badly asking anyone to buy these to play along with the group.

Looking at game trade-in sites makes me aware of just how valuable some of my JRPGs have become. It's a little weird to be honest.
