The GWJ JRPG Club Version 2.5 HD Remaster: Now Voting for our Q2 2024 game!

No more votes, so here are our finalists going into ranked choice voting:

Ni No Kuni
Xenoblade Chronicles
Monster Hunter: World
Phantasy Star IV
Rune Factory 4

Ranked choice voting will be open until Friday, Dec. 24 at 9 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time. Rank as many of the five games above that you're interested in playing. Once all votes are in, we'll choose the game with majority of first place votes; if none have a majority, we'll eliminate the game with the least number of first-place votes (tiebreaker: second place votes; second tiebreaker: overall votes) and repeat the process.

Well, Ni No Kuni remaster is on sale for a couple more days. Might as well hop on the deal:

Kozmo, is that a vote for Ni No Kuni? I assume so because you listed it in your Pick 5 but just want to make sure.

Also ... that is one sweet deal. I'm leaving town to visit my in-laws on 12/23 but now I need to make sure I buy NNK before I leave. Thanks for the heads up!

EDIT: The Switch edition is on sale for $9.99 US right now, though I can't tell from the Eshop page how long the sale will last.

1. Phantasy Star IV

yes, sorry.

3. Ni No Kuni

I should probably put Ni No Kuni higher on my list since I bought the collector's edition back when it first came out on PS3, but this is what I am feeling currently. What do the PS4 and Switch remasters bring to the table for NNK?

Aww seems Ni No Kuni will win... such a great game... to bad i finished it a whle ago

Just popping in here to note that so far, we have 18 people who are voting for a game next quarter. I think that's the most we've had since bobbywatson and I took over. Really psyched to see the high level of interest!

As long as MH:W doesn't win I'll be there :).

About to jump back into Ys as well.

I'm not voting for a few reasons, but am lurking as there are a few games on the list that if picked, I'd quite likely play again.

Glad to be a part of this

Kotaku Article

TLDR: PS4 version has higher framerate and resolution. The anime cutscenes are still 30 fps. The Switch version is a port of the PS3 version, at 720p resolution and 30 frames per second. Both versions have all the DLC that was released.

PSA: The Steam sale has started, an NNK is also 75% off on PC.

FYI, the DLC for No No Kuni is 6 familiar tickets that you can redeem after you learn how to "serenade" (capture) familiars. Three of them are just golden versions of ones you can already get in game. Also, if this game wins, anyone who catches toko should get double completion score, even if they don't complete this game. That thing has a (less than)2% catch rate, always runs away in the overworld, will run away if you manage to fight one and take too long, AND has the highest evasion rate.

Toko caps at level 5 while most other first form familiars can cap at level 50. And to max out the level, it takes over 100k xp....Tokos drop the most xp with the base form dropping 2k and the max (which is basically post game) dropping ~24k. Everything else is like 100-200 each NEAR THE END OF THE GAME! So, you fight against 3, you are getting 400-500xp per victory. The levels reset every time you metamorph and the third forms cap at level 8. I would love for someone to screenshot themselves with a max Tokotocold and Docotoko.

Edit: I just loaded up my old PS3 save and saw that for one of the third stage familiars (Firefry) to go from 98 to 99 is only 22k lol

Sorry for interrupting the voting, but all Atlus titles for 3DS are at a really deep discount on the eShop (at least in USA).

There's a lot of JRPG goodness there, so it seems relevant to the club.
