I've seen nothing but really, really positive buzz for Cocoon.
Reviews are dropping for this now. It's averaging 9/10.
As a reminder, this is a new puzzle game from the some of the main developers of Limbo and Inside.
And it's apparently quite short, which is always a plus... especially this year.
These Four Games Are Coming To Xbox Game Pass (October 4-17)
October 4 Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Xbox Series X|S, Cloud
October 10 Forza Motorsport Series X|S, PC, Cloud
October 12 From Space Console, PC, Cloud
Ocotber 17 Like a Dragon: Ishin! Console, PC, Cloud
Cocoon was real fun, but a bit more actiony than I expected.
Looks like Darktide has been patched up a bit, and I'm reading some better things about it compared to the original launch. Guess it's time to stop playing Starfield exclusively and take a break to slaughter some of those filthy, dirty heathens.
Redfall is maybe ... kinda good now? I spent an hour killing cultists and vampires and the experience was generally pretty fun. Like, maybe now it is actually competent instead of alienating.
It's not going to be on anybody's top ten list, but if you are at all interested in Arkane's aesthetics and open world shooters, this new version is probably worth checking out.
I'm genuinely amazed they're still working on Redfall; I had a story served up the other day that it had THREE concurrent users on Steam. THREE. There weren't even enough people playing to fill a single fireteam.
I'm curious to see what they've done, but, between Starfield and Darktide, I just don't think I'm going to spare the time.
In case people here are getting into the new Forza Motorsport, here's a link to the game thread.
I got the premium early access and the game is pretty good. You definitely do not need a wheel to make the most of it but it is a game that focuses more seriously on the racing.
I'm giving 2 thumbs up to Cocoon. It didn't overstay its welcome, the puzzles were challenging but not over the top difficult, and it was an all-around great game.
Darktide with some limited play has been pretty damn good; it's insane the hordes you mow through, and I had about 700 kills in a 22 minute mission the other night. Does a good job of enforcing teamwork with various abilities, level design seems interesting, at least a thumb and a half up from me trending towards two thumbs.
Notably Not In The Preview Image (Available Now)
- Like A Dragon: Ishin! (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Leaving October 31st
- Gunfire Reborn (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Kill It With Fire (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Persona 5 Royal (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Signalis (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Solasta Crown of the Magister (Cloud, Console, and PC)
I finished Persona 5 only a week or so ago! (wipes sweat)
Signalis is leaving!? Damn, will have to get to it.
I guess that's the bump I need to actually play through Signalis!
Thoughts and prayers for those half way through a Persona run!
That NG+ will certainly have to wait!
Excited to give Lamplighters League a go.
Oh, I didn't realize it at first but that's the new Dead Space Remake. I might have to play that!

Recommend for sure. I'm a fan of DS 1&2 and I really enjoyed the remake.

I love this game. Already on Chapter 6. I am not afraid, they should be afraid. I am in charge now!
Edit, not reply. Edit.
You're not locked in with them, eh Walter?
Kinda digging the Lamplighter League. It reminds me more of Commandos than XCOM as each mission is more of a puzzle than a full-on tactical battle.
Leaving Soon
- Coffee Talk (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Exapunks (PC)
- Ghost Song (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Gungrave G.O.R.E (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Football Manager 2023 (PC)
- Football Manager 2023 Console (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Lapin (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Townscaper (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Wartales is really good. Merc company management with XCom combat and very light fantasy elements. Plus you can have bears.

It really does look good. And if it just had an option to auto resolve combat, I would even play it. It's so frustrating for me that there are so many appealing and interesting turn based squad games out there and I just can't stand the actual pacing and core gameplay of these games.
I want to manage, not micromanage.
I did really like how, at the beginning, it let you chose between a world with dynamic leveling enemies or a world with static enemy levels. Given that I see dynamic leveling as a cancerous anti-pattern in the game design world (nearly as bad as obsession with 'balance'), having the option to chose against it was really nice.

It is time for Gamepass to put out an official app for the Steam Deck. I have followed the guides to get it to run in a browser on the Deck so I am not totally out of luck but I bet a dedicated app would work better.
And as long as I am grousing - it would be great if I could play two different games on different machines. Currently if my son is playing Halo on the Xbox I can't play Lamplighter's League on the Steam Deck. I find that annoying. Especially since he is playing the installed version of Halo and I am using the cloud streaming. It isn't like we are putting a double burden on their servers.

A friend of mine just set up Windows to dual boot on his Deck specifically so he could play Game Pass games directly on Deck instead of streaming. I've been trying to avoid doing this myself but I really do want to be able to just install and play those games on Deck and not have to stream.

You can. Are you using the same Xbox user account as your son? I've never run into this issue but my kids play on their own accounts on the Xbox and I've marked it as my "home Xbox" so it has rights to play anything I can whether my account is logged in there or not. Fully agree an official app would be nice. In the meanwhile have you tried Greenlight? It works well for local and cloud streaming from the limited times I used it.

I have done this as well. My wife plays Red Dead 2 on the Xbox while I play gamepass stuff on the PC downstairs. We purchased RDR2 though, I have not tried it with her playing a gamepass game on the Xbox while I play a gamepass game on the PC. Maybe that is the hangup?

That works as well. We do it all the time here.

There’s also XbPlay. Costs $5 though.
