Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC, and Android

Has anyone found a good way to clear out downloaded games once they drop from gamepass? I have a bunch that show in my library and when I go to open them it doesn’t work of course, but there is nothing in the library screen that I can tell that differentiates them from other games I have purchased.

Have y'all seen the new Game Pass Basic that replaces Xbox Live Gold? Just a rebrand, I guess.

"Coming Soon" I suppose. The official Xbox video I saw on it didn't mention when it's rolling out.

Yeah, I saw that. Looks like it happens on September 14th.

This is the recently introduced Game Pass tiering setup (link).

For current Xbox Live Gold members:

  • On September 14, Xbox Live Gold members will automatically become Game Pass Core members, with no change in pricing, and have immediate access to a new library of over 25 high-quality games.
  • Member deals & discounts will also be part of Xbox Game Pass Core.
  • Games with Gold will come to an end on September 1.
  • Players can continue to access any Xbox One games they previously redeemed through Games with Gold if they remain a Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate member.
  • Regardless of subscription status, any Xbox 360 titles redeemed via Games with Gold in the past will be kept in a player’s library.

Today we’re confirming the following titles for launch*, with more to be announced in advance of September 14. New titles will be added 2-3 times a year.

  • Among Us
  • Descenders
  • Dishonored 2
  • Doom Eternal
  • Fable Anniversary
  • Fallout 4
  • Fallout 76
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Gears 5
  • Grounded
  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Human Fall Flat
  • Inside
  • Ori & The Will of the Wisps
  • Psychonauts 2
  • State of Decay 2
  • The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

* Game library may vary over time and by country.

TL;DR

  • Core is the Xbox Live Gold replacement, with a Game Pass subset of games.
  • Console is if you like Game Pass but don't care about multiplayer or cloud.
  • PC is if you like Game Pass on PC and don't want/need cloud gaming.
  • Ultimate is the all-encompassing it has been before.

Well guess I won't be finishing Expeditions:Rome then, because I got Elden Ring in my life now. Oh well.

There should be a little bug in the bottom left of the game icon that says either "Game Pass" or the EA symbol if they're included in the subscription. If you don't see either, you either actually own the game, or it dropped from Game Pass. I'm pretty sure they don't give you a way to automatically find and delete those because what they want you to do is try and launch them, fail, and go "I guess I'll just buy it."

I have my Xbox Game Pass through Verizon +play (You pay $10 a month for $15 that you can use towards an Xbox membership). I got this Email today:

You received an email from Xbox last week with the subject line, "Xbox is updating prices and here is what you should know," notifying you of upcoming pricing changes for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate memberships that are provided by Microsoft.

Because your Game Pass Ultimate plan is provided by a partner such as your telephone or internet provider, this does not apply to you. Your provider manages your payments and they will notify you of any relevant changes.

Hasn't Everspace 2 been on Gamepass for months now?

The PC version has, but not the console version.

Quoted for emphasis. If you haven't played this yet, get on it! It can definitely be completed in the ~2 weeks remaining.

Immortality gave me a completely unforgettable experience. It's an FMV game with clever 'navigation' from clip to clip as you unravel the stories of an actor's career across multiple films and decades.

Quoted for additional emphasis!

If you enjoy smiling and having fun, please play Tinykin.

If you haven't played Gris yet, get on that when it shows up. I hadn't played it until this year and it is a gorgeous and rewarding experience. I don't normally go for puzzle-solving side-scrolling type games, but Gris never punishes you for mistakes. You always get another try, and there are subtle environmental hints that you start noticing after a while.

Also, thirds on Tinykin. Love it!

I've been meaning to check out Tinykin for a while. This seems like a good push to finally do so. Installing now.

The first one didn't hook me at all and I barely touched it, but I'm genuinely enjoying Everspace 2. It's not fancy or vaguely trying to be some kind of realistic sim, but the controls are intuitive enough that moving in a 3D space is fun in and of itself, and being able to pivot and thrust in any direction really makes approaching combat and the little navigational challenges more like an FPS than a traditional space sim, and I'm getting some old-school Descent vibes from it. It's not exactly AAA quality and story beats are told with static pictures and dialog or if they're feeling fancy more or less animated comic screens, but it's light and enjoyable.

Tinykin is awesome.

I'm looking forward to Sea of Starts, it's the new game from the creators of The Messenger.

I had installed Tinykin last month. I'm pushing hard to come in under the wire later this week. It's been pleasantly better than expected. Has a similar colorful miniaturized indie world appeal to Supraland, which has the quasi-sequel Supraland Six-Inches Under on Game Pass now, too.

I'm looking at the upcoming expiration date of my Ultimate plan and rather than do the math to see if it has been worth it these last couple years I'm looking for ways to maybe get that thing loaded up for another year or two.

It looks like annual prepaid card are no longer a thing in the US. CDKeys and their ilk give me hives so that path is out. The shenanigans with buying core and then upgrading sounds convoluted and possibly nerfed a bit for actual discount gained with the latest plan changes.

What's the best way to lock in another year without feeling too cheated these days?

I'm intrigued by being able to play Gotham Knights for a while with friends, and then I suspect I'll be glad I didn't spend any money on it.

It's actually much harder now, with the demise of Gold. Previously it was a one-to-one ratio for Gold to GamePass months, then they cropped to a 3-to-2 ratio I believe, which was still a good enough saving.

I'm just not sure what options there are now. Thankfully I still have about 16 months left on my previous 3 year pre-purchase, but at this stage, I do not know what I'll do when it comes to renewal time...

Cocoon looks interesting to me

I've seen nothing but really, really positive buzz for Cocoon.

Its worth reviewing what you've actually done with your game pass time. vs what it cost.

This year: Starfield, 50+ hours. Rift Breaker, 4 hours. Dipped in to try 5 games I probably wouldnt have bought and didnt put much time in.
Last year: Immortal - played all the way through, probably 8 hours, totally awesome. Played a few hours of Two point Campus, glad I didnt buy. Moonglow Bay - awesome game until it wasnt, probably did 12 coop hours but it really shit the bed at that point and became unplayable
Past years: put some real hours into Monster Train, Before we Leave, and Fifa 22

All in all, though the access to games is nice, I think this review of actual playtime is showing it's not worth the .... well something like $300 I've paid in that time. Accessing order history is tricky and I've bought time cards from various places. This is a conservative estimate.

The ability to just try something casually is nice, but not over $100 a year nice

In a sane universe I would agree. But I value peace of mind and I'd rather my kids argue with me about which of the games we have access to to download and play rather than which games I should buy for them. I'm totally okay never actually owning a Paw Patrol game.

"Moonglow Bay - awesome game until it wasnt, probably did 12 coop hours but it really sh*t the bed at that point and became unplayable" That... completely mirrors my experience with this game.

In a universe like that, I would absolutely buy a gamepass forever "Kids these are all the games ever made, enjoy (DONT LOOK AT THE INTERNET)"

I am pretty excited for Lamplighters. Hope the cheevs aren't too bad.

I tried The Wandering Village on GP PC today and enjoyed it quite a bit. Relaxing and with a nice aesthetic. It’s about trying to keep your village and the giant creature it’s built on top of alive through harsh conditions as long as you can. Building, farming, resource management, etc. Randomized world with permadeath and roguelike elements. No combat but you do have to fight back poisonous corrupted plants which reminded me of the anime Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

Edit: My son is now playing it on Xbox and says it plays fine with a controller. I think he has to pause time more than I do due to less efficient controls.
