Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC, and Android

That's another good point on Game Pass - you *are* supporting indie devs with your sub. Loads on indie titles on that service, and I've read interviews with studios who've said that the Game Pass model works better for them than chucking it on Steam and hoping for the best.

Autonauts is the new GamePass freebie. It took a while to get used to the controls, but I started having fun and then my kid stole the controller. Damn snow days!

Plus I recall reading they get paid for every download. Not sure if there are other metrics / ways they increase what they get from the deal.

Xbox did their direct thingy today:

This was the shadow drop from Tango Gameworks:

Looks fun. I'll probably give it a whirl this weekend.

My family plays a lot of Worms WMD. Thankfully I noticed that a Worms bundle including WMD is 80% off right now on Xbox. Way cheaper than buying just WMD.

Hi-Fi Rush looks very cool. I will certainly try it.

Hi-Fi Rush is getting terrific reviews, love it when games are announced and dropped on the same date to great reception.

It is a weird pivot for them. Evil Within, Ghostwire Tokyo, Hi-Fi Rush.

I dunno, all of those game ooze style. Different styles, sure, but lots of it.

Good eye.

Redfall gameplay.

This looking better and better. I hope this hits the LFD2 itch, moreso than Back 4 Blood.

I've seen it said that Redfall is closer to Borderlands or Far Cry than Left 4 Dead. I wouldn't go in expecting something like L4D or B4B.

I just played the first hour. It makes a very good first impression. I can't wait to dive in this weekend.

Don't be scared off if you're not a rhythm game person. This is a 3rd-person action platformer with rhythm elements, but they've very clearly made it so people with zero rhythm can still play just fine.

Definitely give it a go if you have even a passing interest in any of these things.

I keep hearing “imagine an Arkane game, with Far Cry 2 vibes”

Bond, James Bond.

Just finished the dam and I wonder if this game will hold up given my love of perfect dark.

Is that... that's a lighthouse!

Having never heard of or seen the game before, I really felt like I was watching another take on The Division. The faction thing, base of operations, and the map / mission presentation just added up to that feeling for me.

Yeah. I like it.

I bounced off of Metal Hellsinger (despite liking the music), but Hi-Fi Rush is MUCH easier to play.

I second this. I suck at rhythm games and I'm still having fun with this. I've only played through the first boss, though, but I appreciate the approach of a scoring system á la Bayonetta or Devil May Cry where if you kinda suck at the timing and combos you may still be able to beat the level and just get a C or a D and you can also show off your skills. Plus, it looks awesome and the music is cool.

Donut County was a bunch of zen fun for my kids and me. You have four days left to make things drop down holes, I guess (end Jan. 31st).

See that sells it for me. I love both those games! (plus you know its free and I was going to try it anyway).

I enjoyed it as well. Played through with my daughter - we would love a sequel.

Just beat the first boss in Hi-Fi Rush. It's so good.

Hi Fi Rush on cloud gaming seems like a mistake to even allow. If guitar hero suffers from the input lag between your controller, screen, and speakers, what chance does it have in cloud gaming? Still it was fun to try before going through a download. I should hope I do better when its installed, as a not-quite-beginner drummer.

Their previous game, Ghostwire Tokyo, is similarly oozing in style and whip-tight action. Totally different tone and genre, but same excellent production.

Yeah, that made it to my GOTY list for 2022. Little bit of an oddball game, but well worth playing! Equally stylish, but totally different tone and genre are their Evil Within games. I also came across a pretty hilarious reference/cameo to The Evil Within in the second stage of Hi-Fi Rush.

I am disappointed it is leaving. My 5/6 year old loves that game and still plays it every so often.

+1 for Donut County. Fun game. I wish I had a raccoon friend to text.

Hi-Fi Rush main boss #3 down. This game continues to impress. I am enjoying it more and more as I continue. I'm still shocked something of this quality was just casually announced and released on the same day.

And finished. I'll be surprised if that's not my favorite thing I play on Game Pass all year. What an awesome surprise.
