PNW S&T: Want to come on a Board Game Cruise?

Fire, his wife Aila, and I are taking advantage of her Daily Planet job as a cruise and event planner to create an opportunity for several kinds of fun at once.

So, do you like board games? Do you like to travel? Join us on an adventure where we combine the two!

When: May 12, 2019
Where: Departing from Vancouver, BC and returning to Seattle, WA
What: 7 day Board Game Cruise to Alaska aboard the Star Princess
Who: You and your fellow board-game loving friends

We'll have Fire's board game library (and anything else anyone wants to bring along), a Vive, and dedicated space to play all the way up and down the gorgeous Inside Passage. That early in the year the weather will be changeable enough that being inside won't be as awful a chore as you might think.

We have a group booking rate, and Aila has access to all sorts of deals on the cruise itself, and can make airfare and shore excursion arrangements. For example, I took advantage of a promotion that will give me free gratuities and some free onboard credit. She'll have all the details of what's running when you want to make the arrangements.

For detailed information and to book, PM me your contact info and I'll send it along to her, or you can PM Ailadinya directly.

That sounds awfully fun! Not sure I'd be able to swing it, but I'll think about passing along my contact info. At the least, I want to hear how fun it was.

This is the type of thing that might get me back on a cruise.
Definitely going to kick off some investigation of how I could make this work.

If you have any questions, let me know. I'll be happy to answer them.

So looking forward to this!

I know this is likely to be one of the most common questions, so I figure I'll preemptively answer it;

What does the cruise cost? Well, that depends on what type of room you'd like to stay in and if you're staying alone or with someone else. Below is the breakdown for room types and prices (in USD).

_____________Double____Single____Taxes
_________________________________(per person)
Interior..........$899.........$1,798.......$215
OceanView....$1,249......$2,498.......$215
Balcony..........$1,549......$3,098.......$215
Suite...............$1,649......$3,298.......$215

Gratuities (service charges) are $13.50 per person/per day, suites are $15.50 pp/pd

There is currently a promotion going on that offers on board credit, free gratuities, and half priced deposits. This promotion goes for about two more weeks.

I hope this answers the basic questions. PM me with further questions or to make a booking.

So... the cost of a single oceanview room is actually US$2807.50?

Without gratuities it would be $2,713, but with gratuities it would be $2807.50. The reason I separate gratuities is because there are promotions that will get you free gratuities (like the one going on now). But, I like to warn people about all "hidden" costs up front.

Ooh! We might do this (wife and I) we've been trying to organize an Alaskan cruise this summer with friends. Is there a deadline?

The deadline for the current promotion is November 19th and for cruises booked now, final payment will be due by February 26th.

Deposits made under this promotion are refundable. FYI

-Aila

Bump!

Reminder that the current promotion is only valid through the 19th.

Let me know if you'd like more information or to put down your refundable deposit today!

I'd be all over this if I thought my wife would go for it. Hope you have an amazing time!

Even for those that can't make it, feel free to spread the word to others!

I think it's going to be a lot of fun, but the more people we get to go with, the more fun it'll be!

Interested. Discussing with Mrs. Mix.

The current deal, Cyber Monday++, is pretty similar to the last one (free gratuities and free on board spending money) and goes until Sunday December 2nd.

-Aila

Mrs. Mix, Mini Mix, and I are in! We've always wanted to do an Alaska cruise, so we're looking forward to that, and having a group of board gamers to keep busy with on days at sea sounds excellent. Everyone coming will need to steel themselves for the intolerable cuteness that is my daughter, who will be a week shy of 14 months by that time.

Easy games for me to pack: Secret Hitler, Love Letter, Guillotine, Space Beans, Phase 10, Falling, What Do You Meme?, a smattering of CheapAss Games, and a cribbage board.

Secret goal for everyone else on the trip: Get my wife drunk enough to sing in public. She is wonderful and just needs a little courage and encouragement.

We'll also be bringing a collection of games including Drop Mix, 7 Wonders, and we will very likely be bringing our HTC Vive as well.

I'm so excited for this cruise!

-Aila

Oh, I might be able to fit my one-shot Dungeon World binder and dice if anyone is interested in very rules light, tropey, high fantasy role-playing.

So, I just got word that if we can get 64 people booked (super ambitious, I know) then we can have our own pub style trivia on the ship with custom game/geek themed rounds! I'm also reaching out to a few board game designers to see if they're willing to provide some games for our group.

In January I'll be recording an episode for BJ Shea's Geek Nation to promote the Board Game Cruise. Once the podcast has been released, I'll share the link here.

If anyone else has some contacts, please let me know. I'm working to make this a great experience!

Woo! Are there still sale prices going on? I will pass on info to friends.

Yes! The cruise line industry seems to be similar to the car industry, in that there is always one type of sale or another going on. The key is finding one that offers things you're interested in (drinks, shore excursions, wifi, specialty dining, on board spending money, etc.).

Claire was just on BJ Shea's Geek Nation podcast talking about the cruise!

Please feel free to share, the more the merrier!

Unfortunately we have to bow out, so I won't be able to run any terrible role-playing sessions. Maybe next time!

We're sad you won't be able to make it. Hopefully next time will work out.

Hey everyone, there's a FLASH sale going on right now for this to sell the last of the inventory on the ship.

A double occupancy interior room is $1,244 , plus $94.50 per person for gratuities. This is a HUGE savings and many categories are sold out or wait listed. So, if you wanted to join us on this cruise, this is your last chance.

email me if you'd like more information or to book (I may not see messages here in time):
