Oxenfree (2016)
Oxenfree is a supernatural mystery graphic adventure video game about a group of friends who open a ghostly rift. You can find the wikipedia page here, though I'd steer clear, because of spoilers. How Long to Beat estimates about 5 hours to completion, though I am told it's replayable (with extra story content). (GOG, Steam, HumbleBundle, Nintendo Store)
Please be mindful of your fellow goodjers and spoiler any discussion of plot points. Have fun, everyone!
You can find the main thread over this way. We'll be playing Oxenfree from November 1st to 31st, 2018, with an extra month behind for stragglers. Fave fun, everyone.
Nice! I just finished this so won't be playing along but definitely have some things to discuss once people start. Love the Adventure Game Club idea!
I am so excited to hear that were going to be playing Oxenfree! This is one of my favourite games on my Switch. (Fun coincidence, it's actually on sale on Switch right now.)
Don't read this next bit unless you've already finished Oxenfree at some stage:
I'm thinking that this time I'll go the 'really mean' route, and try to get the worst ending. I'm also thinking that I should wipe my save and start from scratch... I don't wanna mention something that's exclusive to New Game+ here by accident...
Anyone else thinking they'll aim for a specific ending?
Excellent! It's not the one I voted for but who cares.
I've got the game in my backlog and will be installing soon.
This will be a replay for me, and a repurchase on the Switch. I'm looking forward to it!
Looking forward to seeing everyone's reactions!
I've already started this and have been playing bits and pieces here and there, so I'm looking forward to the discussion. So far, I really dig the ambience and spooky stuff. The musical score, though, is simply amazing and fitting.
I'm looking very forward to this.
Has anybody tried the switch version? If so how it both in handheld mode and on the TV? I have it on PC (thanks twitch prime) already but I'm tempted to pick it up on switch.
Nice. Been looking forward to playing this for a while.
This one's a replay for me as well; first played it about this time last year. I think it's worth a revisit though.
Also, I have a spare Steam key for this, so PM me if anyone wants to participate and doesn't already own it.
I shall fire it up very soon. I did vote for this game so I’m delighted but I’m equally looking forward to playing games, in the future, that others push to the fore and that I would never even have contemplated playing.
The arena of AAA games feels familiar and predictable for me. I feel like I have the measure of it’s width and depth. In my absence the world of adventure games has become a vast and wildly varied. I have no idea what delights are out there awaiting my discovery and that’s a great feeling that I haven’t had in a while when it comes to games.
Been looking for an excuse to ng+ this at some point, so this is as good a reason as any.
I'm looking very forward to this.

I played it on Switch. Probably 90% docked and 10% handheld. I thought it was great, but I don't have anything to compare it to performance-wise. If you're playing handheld, I'd recommend using earphones.
Fired it up. Two things I’ve learned very quickly. I like the game and am immediately invested. Much like actual conversations it isn’t a good idea to only half listen to the in game conversations because someone is likely to ask you something that relates to what was just being talked about and you’ll have to attempt to cover up the fact that you weren’t listening by giving a hurried answer that you hope makes sense.
I would like for real-life conversations to work like they do in Oxenfree.
At least you get a general idea of what you missed.
Started!
I was going to go through with a walkthrough to try to get the best ending this time through, but i realised i remember so little about it that it would probably be worth just going through another non-spoilerly playthrough again first.
I'm not quite sure if there are any differences in a second run or not (i have it in the back of my mind that there IS?) but at the very least i'm trying out some different choices and dialogue options to see if that makes a difference.
Current location : Just after cave weirdness at the foot of the radio tower.

There definitely are. They might be subtle differences at first but they'll become more obvious. Did you hear your own voice on the radio when you were on the boat? That's the first one from what I remember. :)
oh, i don't think i noticed that! i shall have to pay more attention.

Like I said, it does become more obvious. You should start seeing some fun stuff soon!

Let me know if you'd like some really generic/vague/non-spoilery pointers for getting the best ending at any stage.
You folks do know we're not supposed to start until November 1st, right? ;)
Maybe that will be enough time for the PS Store to have a flash sale so that I can join you, guys! I've seen Oxenfree for sale for like five or six bucks so many times, and every time I've almost pulled the trigger... but haven't. Now I wish I had!
It may even be a PS plus game.
*fingers crossed*
I'm not subscribed...
Oh well it’ll be on sale again for sure.
That's a great idea... but apparently my MacAir only has a third of the minimum processing power required . I'll just follow the thread and read your comments on the game, and hopefully join you for the next one!

That disappointing! It's available on mobile too if that'd be an option for you? I could see it working quite well on a tablet with headphones.

I somehow skipped over that sentence completely. I was starting to feel that I was falling behind!
Ooooh! And for only $4.99! I think I might just have to get it! Thanks for the heads up!
If you put off buying this, it's now part of Steam's Halloween sale (also GOG), so it's also $4.99 on PC until Thursday.
