2019 NBA Catch-All - It’s Fantastic

Alvin Gentry had a good quote on this the other day

When asked after Tuesday's regular-season finale, a 112-103 loss to the Golden State Warriors, whether he had ever seen a situation like this during his time in the league, Gentry was quick with an answer.
"Not this toxic, no," Gentry said. "Not that affected two teams. And two guys. One lost his job, and the other one resigned from his job. So no, in 31 years I hadn't had anything that would equal this kind of fallout. No, I haven't."

And I think he's right. I can't think of a non-transaction in my entire life that's laid waste to two franchises so thoroughly.

Yes I agree. I had hoped they would come up with better candidates than two retreads that were fired from their last jobs. Uninspiring choices.

Actually I had hoped they would just keep Walton. He seems to be a decent coach.

Make LeBron coach.

Or even better, put Kobe in as GM and let them fight.

Raptors so cursed lol

God I love upsets

Me too. Sorry, Raptors fans, but those shots by Augustine were pretty gutsy.

So Spurs are still the Spurs. Pop with the most all time wins.

And Raptors are still the Raptors, always losing game 1. Wow.

Where is the "buries head in my hands" emoji. I need that right now.

Is it too soon to panic about the Raptors? Probably. Deep breaths.

I wouldn’t worry too much. I watched the whole game and it felt like a pretty fluky win for the Magic.

But, I think Giannis and the Bucks might steamroll the conference. I just don’t think Kawhi is as good or as dominant.

All falling apart for Pacers in the 3rd.

I *still* think Mike D'Antoni looks weird without a mustache.

Mustache's are the inefficient, mid-range jumper of facial hair. Either full beard threes or clean-shaven rim runs.

A historic night of NBA basketball and a ridiculous night of NBA basketball.

*checks in progress scores, everything looks as normal as possible*

*goes off and does something else for an hour*

*figures it may not hurt to check the final results*

What the actual... o_O

Yeah. It was another wild night.

It was just a shame it was so late, I think I turned off that game about 12:30am because I had to get to bed and it was the 3rd quarter. I might try to catch the 4th on a rerun if they show it on ESPN3 or something.

Watching the Thunder lose is like my 4th favorite NBA thing to do.

Goddamn you all to hell

I have to hand it to Russ, he has somehow made triple doubles an empty stat and often looks bad in the process. Has to be an incredibly difficult thing to do.

My favorite is when Adams boxes out for him and let's Russ sky in for the rebound. They should invent a stat like rebound-assist.

As a Brook Lopez fan, I actually don't mind Adams (or other bigs) doing that, in theory. Milwaukee's team rebounding had had a marked improvement largely centered around Lopez boxing out and allowing others to grab the board, particulary players like Giannis, Bledsoe, or Westbrook in this case, who are more capable of getting the ball up court in transition more quickly.

It's good basketball to put the ball in the hands of a primary ballhander. I agree.

It does bother me, though, that deep down I know Russ is doing it in part to pad his stats. And that people still think the triple double is a meaningful stat in that context.

And that is the reason for my "in theory" modifier!

On another topic, is there a less likable team in the playoffs than Philly from a personality standpoint? They seem to take their cue from Embiid. I am sure there are many that find Embiid's act of self aggrandizement, trollish acts, and smarmy looks entertaining to some. I am not in that crowd. The presser with Embiid and Simmons giggling like high schoolers about the elbow to the face of Allen was disgusting. Embiid checks every box of things I dislike: bully, hypersensitive, whiner, delights in agitating others, gloats during success, laments during failure. A shame too, as he is a fantastically talented player.

They also have Jimmy Butler and he's pretty much hated by most his teammates everywhere.

Drummond +/- in the first two games: -77

-45 in game 1
-32 in game 2

Maybe don't say you know Giannis' game like the back of your hand before game 2?

I hope that GS gets up by 31 in the third, just so I can watch the internet react

Watching harden play is the worst.

Oh man. 3-20, but they win because he gets 16 free throws. Feel the excitement!
