Whatever man can't keep up with the world
The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to trade Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for Chris Paul, first-round picks in 2024 and 2026, pick swaps in 2021 and 2025, league sources tell ESPN.

I can't decide if that makes the Rockets better or worse. Like trading lung cancer for brain cancer
Wow.
Well, Houston should be interesting at least but I also like that trade for OKC.

Right. So the only reason that made sense for OKC is that they got lots of picks. Now they're swimming in picks. I assume they find a way to get rid of Paul or he just mentors young guys as he plays out the rest of that terrible contract.
Exactly. I think Paul's a downgrade on Russ but his contract is one year shorter and they got the picks.
OKC's draft haul is ridiculous.
OKC 1sts:
2020 Own (1-20)
2020 DEN (11-30)
2021 Own (HOU 5-30 swap right)
2021 MIA (HOU 5-30 swap right)
2022 Own (1-14)
2022 LAC
2023 Own (LAC swap right)
2023 MIA (15-30)
2024 Own
2024 LAC
2024 HOU (5-30)
2025 Own (LAC and HOU 21-30 swap right)
2026 Own
2026 LAC
2026 HOU (5-30)— Albert Nahmad (@AlbertNahmad) July 12, 2019
I understand why OKC made the trade. I don’t understand why Houston did, unless the relationship with Paul was just going to tear the team apart. It seems like if they just wanted to get rid of Paul they could have gotten a better deal somewhere else.

Like I said, cancer.

CP is 34 and a scary 34.
Houston really didn't give up all that much to essentially improve their chance imo for the next 2 years maybe 3? With how up in the air the NBA is why not go for this window.
.Rockets were 12-1 to win the title prior to acquiring Westbrook from the Thunder. After the move, they are 8-1 and tied for the fourth-best odds in the NBA.
Double double.
Now I can dream of losing in the first round but with more picks.

So glad Utah got rid of him. Couldn't cheer for them at all with him on the court last year.
It's insane to me that OKC drafted 3 MVPs plus Ibaka in 3 consecutive years and have one terrible finals appearance to show for it. Penny pinching, bad coaching, and potential infighting cost them what could have shaped up to be a dynasty.
God I too hate having watched years of competitive basketball that ended in a loss to the ascent of a historically dominant anomaly of the Warriors.
Sure does suck to be an OKC fan

I don’t particularly care for the Thunder but I think that’s a kinda negative way to look at it. Here’s a more positive, just as truthful way:
They made it to the finals we’ll ahead of schedule when all their best players were 2nd-4th year guys and their backups were either inexperienced (Reggie Jackson) or washed (Derek Fisher, Kendrick Perkins). Teams that young rarely win championships. They were understandably outmatched by a team that featured three all stars at their peaks.the opposing team was also extremely motivated because they were upset in the previous finals.
The next couple seasons they were derailed by injuries to their best guys and those leftover were outplayed by one of the best organizations in sports.
The season after, they lost in the conference finals to the eventual champs and a rising dynasty.
The Harden trade and not axing the Kendrick Perkins contract were probably what undid them, big picture. But there was a lot of run of the mill bad luck along the way.
The schadenfreude here in Seattle watching OKC implode has been... delicious.
A thousand times, this!
I feel like it's inevitable for us to get another team, I just feel bad it may be at the expense of another set of fans.
Yeah man Seattle a slept on city, feel bad for those fans with their complete lack of other options
In NBA 2k19 they made a narrative for MyLeague. You start an expansion team, and there’s a second team. It’s the Sonics. I think that’s a clear an indicator that the NBA wants them back and it’ll eventually happen.

The idea comes up a few times in the in-game color commentary as well.
