2019 NBA Catch-All - It’s Fantastic

Hehehe

Been an entertaining FA so far.

Has there been any positive hot takes on what the Knicks are doing?

For example if some of these bodies would be good role players for playoff push teams are they technically loading up on trade deadline ammunition? Or am I out thinking that there's an actual strategy?

The last one.

In honor of Ben Simmons getting the max

Looking at what the price was for taking on Iguodala and Harkless (getting future 1sts) they should have done that instead.

By and large NYC radio has actually been positive. The problem is that damn Kay Show interview where Dolan said he was bringing two max contract players to NYC. If he had just kept his mouth shut the Knicks would be getting universal praise for not doing the same dumb things they've done for almost 20 years. Which I guess is less praise and more backhanded compliment. That Sunday night tweet didn't help either.

But yeah, you have the right idea. Load up on short contracts that can turn into deadline ammunition. The summer FA signings going back to 2010 have proven the Knicks are no longer a destination, so the plan is to build via the draft and shrewd moves.

Is that true? I think it's true that there's virtue in building slowly through smart free agency moves and the draft. RJ Barrett and Julius Randle are definitely shrewd moves.

On the other hand they could have a roster right now with Julius Randle, RJ Barrett and Kristaps Porzingas right now. So I think the failure to land someone big in light of that trade is consequential. And I'm not sure about the players they did sign. Specifically, they overpaid big time for Gibson.

Porzingas made it clear he didn't want to be in NYC, plus he's his share of off court baggage. And don't forget, trading him to Dallas helped get rid of two other awful contracts.

Agree they overpaid for Gibson and I'm also not sure about the other guys. But in the past the Knicks would have swung and missed on KD/Irving and then horribly overpaid for someone like Cousins. At least now they're signing 2-3 year contracts with team friendly options.

Hilarious!

Do yourself a favor and check out #kawhiwatch on Twitter. All of Canada is stalking him right now.

They literally did a helicopter chase. This has reached maximum absurdity.

It would not surprise me if there was more aerial coverage of Kawhi today than during the parade.

What's everybody doing for the Fourth of Kawhi?

I truly, deeply hope Kawhi just shows up for training camp with his new team, or he announces his retirement via his GeoCities page.

I hope he gets Bob McKenzie to break the news if he's staying in Toronto.

The line to see Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett in a Summer League game.

I saw earlier today that the Knicks are favored to win the Summer League title, and I am taking that now as 0.25 of a NBA title. Three more and the Knicks are back on top baby!

Summer league is on ESPN right now. WTF

Would be fun if Zion's summer league debut with Davis there got Davis to consider staying and signing an extension. Not like the trade call's happened yet.

But I just want maximum Lakers chaos so I'm biased.

WOJBOMB HAS DROPPED

KAWHI TO THE CLIPPERS

PAUL GEORGE TO THE CLIPPERS

THE STAPLES CENTER IS THE NEW BASKETBALL MECCA

All season long until the 4-bounce shot I was in "who cares if he leaves, it's house money" and then I talked myself into Kawhi possibly staying so I'm unreasonably disappointed. Don't blame him one bit though, brought the country a championship playing fairly hobbled at times in the playoffs.

That George trade is something else, more expensive than the Davis trade.

And a silver lining, I won't need cable after the Women's World Cup final on Sunday.

What a crazy situation. Feels like the whole league is wide open now.

I kinda think Philly should feel good about themselves to make/win the finals?

Clips starting 5 will be what...

1 Beverly
2 Shamet?
3 Leonard
4 George
5 Harrell

Their tallest player under contract is 6’8” unless I’m misremembering a signing. They’ve got some work to do in terms of roster construction. I don’t particularly like how many future assets they had to give up for George. On the other hand Ballmer has stated he wants to be competitive in perpetuity so they may never be lottery picks.

I think my favorite angle is that Westbrook is now again alone, after his star teammate realized he doesn’t play a winning style. I think the Thunder might even be better off to trade him and rebuild from scratch.

Edit: I forgot Ivica Zubac.

I can’t remember the last time so many teams had credible chances at the championship.

Warriors? Not without Klay
Sixers
Lakers
Bucks
Clippers
Nets? Eh maybe next year
Rockets
Nuggets
Blazers? Nah

So I’d say six teams this year and eight next.

It’s really wide open for sure. I think the price both LA teams paid was steep and reflected the fact the window is wide open.

For OKC fans, at least they managed to extract a ton of assets.

That’s a fun team. Harrell was a monster last year.

It's so wide open you forgot the Jazz who seem to be the consensus West dark horse of actually being the best 'Team'.

And honestly if we are throwing teams in on the West side. Indiana and Boston area really not that far off with some player progression and luck.

Sucks to see Kawhi go but to see the Lakers now scramble to put together a semblance of a roster is hilarious.

Toronto go into rebuild/tank mode. Gasol Lowry Ibaka for sale. Can wait until the deadline if anyone is interested.

Yep, throw the Jazz in. I’m less hot on them than the NBA journos though. Their second best player gets taken out of too many playoff series the last couple years.
