The GWJ Adventure Game Club - Main Thread

Wait, we could've voted more than once?! Counting the vote totals, it looked as though we'd have a nice club of ~70 people if everyone participated. There's probably only like six of us.

There were 26 people who voted, 71 votes total, so that means people voted for 2,73 games on average.

I assume runners up go back in the pool, yeah?

Yes, except for Gemini Rue.

I’m in for this, can’t remember if I posted that yet.

I voted on the last one and totally didn’t notice I could vote for more than one title

Going to vote in the second round now

Oh, I did not know that I had the option to cast multiple votes in the first round--I certainly noticed there didn't seem to be a way to stop us, but I assumed we were on our honor. Oh well. If we're not tipping our hand, I will only say that I am casting my vote for the only one of these games I have not already played, or really even heard of, but looks kinda neat on my very brief research.

You and your stats, top marks!

I've voted... for a replay! But which one...?

The right one, I'm sure.

I'm enjoying the light quantitative analysis too. Always nice to hear you're above average!

Will all of this month's 'losers' be back in rotation for the next vote? Or were you thinking your picks would be once offs?

As mentioned previously, all the losers are going back in the pool. I should update the main post to reflect that.
I apologize the instructions weren’t clear enough but the question was labeled: “what game(s) will you pick?” I thought the parentheses with the S made that clear. Regardless, I think our final pool for this one looks really great, so we’ll just roll with it. Isn’t that what usually happens with new projects? Tiny hiccups but it’ll work out in the end!

I ran the community GOTY last year. Of course I turned on the “one answer only” for this round. I know you cats need to be herded.

I look forward to the analysis exploring how voting patterns changed once everyone knew they could vote for as many games as they liked.

I'm in as well. Going to vote now.

Awesome! The more the merrier!

So I'm taking a look at the poll and I've already gotten 25 replies. I think I might call it. I'll give you folks a couple of hours to protest, but I kinda want to just call it, and move things over to the first game thread. This might be a tad selfish on my part, because I'll be traveling for most of the rest of the day, and then participating in Extra Life 2018. What do you folks think? Shall I reveal the first game of the GWJ Adventure game Club?

Let's go!

I'm excited!

Yes, please!

I'm ready. I own two of the three finalists so I am anxious to know if I need to do some buyin or just some installing.

Either way, I'm happy with all three finalists.

I'm a bit torn - I'd love to just know now what the pick is, but on the other hand the main post states that voting will be open until midnight on the 26th and I'd hate for anyone to miss voting because they expected to have a bit more time. Not true for me this time, but it's totally my MO to forget until the last minute.

Then again, we're so close to the number of first round voters - if a vote or two wouldn't change the outcome, seems reasonable to call it.

In case it helps, with the CRPG voting generally dries up after the first 3 days or so. The last couple of days might pick up one or two additional voters, if that. Most GWJers vote early.

Honestly, I’ve gotten more votes than the first round and a few votes aren’t going to tip the scales at this point.

I’m between planes but as soon as I get home, I’ll post.

Just voted in the poll!

Looking forward to this.

That sounds about right. I got 11 votes the first day, then 7 votes on the 2nd day, 3 votes on the third day, and it just tapered off.

Okay, I have 26 answers on the second poll which is the same number I had on the first round, so I'm calling it, folks.

***drum roll***

And the first game of the GWJ Adventure Game club is.......

OXENFREE!

Not much suspense here, as 14 people voted for it (53.9%). Life Is Strange came in second with 7 votes (26.9%) and then Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth (5 votes, 19.2%).

The thread for the game is over this way (it's already in the OP).

Darn it. The one I haven't played yet got 3rd place
Oxenfree is nice though.

I'm sure it'll get a turn soon enough. I definitely want to play that one sooner rather than later!

Election hacking is the new norm.

You know, the icon for Oxenfree is sitting right there on my desktop. This'll be a good time to fire it up.

Looking forward to playing it. Great to be officially underway with our first game.

I'm not too salty about this outcome; been playing Oxenfree in bits, so I'm happy to join in.

I have a spare Steam key for Oxenfree; PM me if anyone wants to participate and doesn't already own it.

I'm with you Shadout, the game I voted for in third below the two games I've already played. D'oh. Oh well. Oxenfree is cool, and even though I played through it relatively recently, I'll see about fitting in a second playthrough for the club.

That Pillars of the Earth game was something I'd never heard of and looked intriguing! Added to my Steam wishlist, maybe I'll get to it soem day.

I believe I played Oxenfree previously after I got it for free through either GoG or Twitch Prime, and it is available on Xbox Gamepass, so lots of ways you all might own it for free. I may do my second time around on Xbox just for the achievement points, which weirdly still give me some minor amount of motivation.

Cool.

This time round I'll be playing on PC via Twitch Prime.

I’d like to nominate Broken Age (having come across it in an optimistically titled ‘To Play’ folder on my PS4.)

Heads up, The Red Strings Club is currently half off on steam, and there’s an even deeper discount if you get it with Gods Will Be Watching (which I already own and will be nominating).

Broken Age was a fun, beautiful game, well worth playing.
