JRPGs that Aren't Final Fantasy Catch-All 2.0

Now that I have CFW on my PSP, I'd love to play some of those. Portable really is the way to go with this series. But...I've played some of TiTs and it's so. damn. slow. I don't know if I could do it without a fast-forward.

How is the Dragon Series? The only exposure I have to it is the 3DS game I have in my collection unopened. Looks quirky.

Gorgeous collection by the way! I particular love the cover on the bottom, second from the left Trails game.

Dragon is a cousin to the Etrian Odyssey Series. No mapping but a fun dungeon crawl with your custom heroes. I believe the director of Etrian also directed the first one as well.

I enjoyed the series.

As for fast fowarding through psp games, if you have a decent android then the psp emulator is really good (paid version).

I’m enjoying 7th Dragon a lot so far. The connection to Etrian makes a lot of sense. The dragon sub bosses behave like FOEs in those games. And the class/skill system is similar (I find the classes easier to understand than EO). Only complaints would be the lack of development of your party characters, they’re just random dudes you generate as per an EO mainline game and they don’t have any real dialog. And the chibi sprites don’t really mesh with the character portraits or general tone of the game. But thumbs up (15 hours in so far).

A piece came out on the history of Monolith Soft. I hadn’t heard of them until Xenoblade, so catching up on them was interesting. The quote near the end of them wanting to be a Japanese version of Bethesda was also telling.

Omg, is that why I mostly only enjoy Bethesda and MonolithSoft games anymore? Because they truly are akin to Bethesda? That's crazy talk.

SaGa Frontier is getting an HD Remaster next summer. This is, I think, the first SaGa game that got a release in the US. I snagged it on PlayStation but never got very far, as it was different from what I expected. I don't even know if I beat the robot's scenario, which was the only one I had played. Still, I think it's pretty cool that it's getting a remaster.

It was the first SaGa game released under the SaGa name. The first three games were released as "Final Fantasy Legend" on the Game Boy. I still rather fond of the second and third one, as simple as they are.

Now that I finished Trails of Cold Steel II, I miht try this 7th dragon stuff... is it good?

SaGa Frontier?! This one was my favorite of the PS One SaGa's. Always felt it was very much underappreciated. Looking forward to playing it with the revamped visuals.

I'm into it. I really like the soundtrack and it looks how I remember PS1 games looking, attractive chunky polygons (rather than the reality of absolute garbage). There's a localised 3DS game that I'm not familiar with but I'm playing the first PSP game with an English patch.

Finally a decent trailer for this game. The music helps a lot.

I had my eye on this, and now I'm looking forward to finding out even more. It looks pretty silly in a great way.

That looks really good!

That looks like fun!
