Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Smash All

I’ve been using GameCube controllers because I found my old ones and the adapter wasn’t expensive. The Pro controller is just fine too. I had trouble with the joycons at first, but once I got used to the game and button layouts on the pro controller going back to the joycons has been fine.

I've been mostly joycons because I've been playing mostly handheld. I do have a little stand that I could use the pro controller while undocked but I don't bother most games. Only Splatoon 2 I use that with every time because the motion aiming is so good on pro controller for that one.

So I cleared World of Light this afternoon.

Spoiler:

I knew about the World of Darkness, but the third map with the battle between light and dark was cool, if not a bit tedious running back and forth occasionally to keep one side from getting more than two advances into the other. And the entire final sequence, with the series of threeway battles between you and light and dark were cool, the boss rush at the end was surprisingly fun, and the FINAL final battle, against Galeem and Dharkon simultaneously (and they would absolutely attack each other) was fantastic. One of my favorite boss sequences in a long time.

Couldn't agree more! I thought it was awesome!

You 100% the entire WoL, right? I did a lot of it, but ran into some walls along the way. I may still run back through periodically and try to hit some of the earlier fights I missed or skipped earlier, since I have much stronger spirits now and can probably pass most of the blockades. And I want to do clear some of the achievements tied to WoL, even if there's not much reason to do so. I view it as more of a thing to pick up for a few minutes than to grind out, whereas most of my time will now be spend with XC2.

Yeah I 100%'d it...

Spoiler:

...but I did that purely because I loved the mode so much. There were some tough battles along the way, and I nearly gave up on one or two of them! I'd imagine that you got the good ending from what you described, so the remaining % would just be for personal satisfaction. Don't put yourself under pressure! :D

The 2.0 patch dropped yesterday, and with it a came bunch of character changes plus Piranha Plant, for everyone who registered the game. I booted up Smash for the first time in a few weeks to try him out, and there were a lot of people online doing the same thing.

He seems like a gimmicky Zone control character, but I never quite got the hang of how to use the normal and down B moves. Definitely handles differently from any other character they've introduced before, which bodes well for the DLC characters feeling fresh or unique.

Just FYI: There are reports that using Piranha Plant in All Star mode corrupts the game.

So be wary if you do use it. If your save gets corrupted, you can redownliad the latest from the cloud backup if you have Switch Online.

There are so many fighters in this game I just don’t see new ones as being that huge of a draw. I’ve put in a decent amount of time but there are plenty of fighters I still haven’t even played as once.

The appeal in more fighters is in being able to play as your favorite character. That's how the cast got so large to begin with.

That said, I'm in the bucket of people who have been turned off to Smash by the giant roster. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Oh, I'm totally for more characters because they'll be new instead of bringing back old ones.

I also like the crossover appeal with other publishers.

No more Fire Emblem characters though. ktx

How many people’s favorite character is piranha plant?

My grandpa served as a piranha plant in Vietnam.

Thank him for his service.

So what’s the over/under on getting Master Chief before the year is out?

0% chance, I'd say. 0%? That might be too high, actually.

I still want Solaire. The amiibo was an awful tease.

I play random fighters versus my kids all the time. That plus the gradual unlocking of new characters keeps me well diversified.

This is my one and only wish for DLC fighters. When I saw the amiibo, it was my first thought.

How is everyone finding Pirahna plant? I'm really struggling to win against most players who use them (it?), and I'm not sure if that's because I'm approaching the fight wrong or the balancing is slightly off. At the moment Pirahna plant just has...Everything; great super armour, range, projectiles, heavy hitting attacks, amazing recovery.

I may sound annoyed, but I've gotta say it's a great design! I almost expect DLC characters to be near top-tier to lure more people into paying at this point

My new character guess is Monster Hunter. I'm guessing a Palico and at least one Hunter character (or maybe one that can switch between a few different weapons on the fly like Pokemon Trainer or Shulk) in that first pack. Then I think they'll toss in a couple Assist trophies of Nargacuga or something like that.

Someone from Dragon Quest XI seems like an obvious choice. And if we're really lucky, he can be a copy of a Fire Emblem character!

I enjoyed hearing Allen speak about all the "anime boys with swords" on the podcast.

I have to remind myself that Piranha isn't one of the five DLC packs... I keep thinking there are only three fighters left to be announced. I have no idea who the remaining four will be. I like the idea of them all being unexpected/unpredictable though.

This has been my take on PP so far as well. The fact that it seems to have super armor (can't be knocked back or made to flinch) while it is retracted into its pot, preparing its "stick-neck-out-at-long-range" -- even when in the air -- has been tough to deal with.

I have this problem with most fighters...

The day after the deadline to register for a free Piranha Plant, it's now available for $5 in the eShop.

As it should be?

That way there's no time in which you cannot get that character on your roster and someone else can. Except I would not pay $5 for a single character. $2 is pushing it for me, even for a character I might really want, given I've got more options than i can get to.

I wasn't meaning to come across as critical. I recall there being a fair bit of angst about pre-order exclusive characters or a long gap before Piranha Plant was able to be purchased. That didn't happen.
