If there was a week that was going to get me interested in VR, it would be this one. Two Ghostbusters “experiences"? If it weren’t for the bugginess, prohibitive cost and extreme nausea, you could sign me right up right now!

Fortunately, the rest of the PC release list woke from its temporary lull and came up with some worthwhile titles. Let me hit you with my now-customary top five.

Case 2: Animatronics Survival is an unexpected follow-up to the game that I wanted Five Nights at Freddy’s to be. You play as a person trapped in a building with murderous animatronic nightmare fuel, but it’s completely free-roaming. This one makes the list mainly because it falls neatly into my eclectic list of father-daughter bonding experiences that includes SOMA, Amnesia: The Dark Descent and, of course, the first Case: Animatronics.

Chasm is YAPGM, which: 1, means Yet Another Procedurally Generated Metroidvania; and 2, is pronounced “linoleum.” It looks absolutely gorgeous and, well, I’m just not sick of linoleum yet.

Forsaken Remastered updates one of my favorite N64 titles for modern PCs. It’s kind of a baby’s first Descent, but you play a mercenary on a space motorcycle with upgradeable guns. Even if I hadn’t played it before, I’d be game to try again.

Uagi-Saba is a bit of an odd duck. I would describe it as an Umbrella Corporation Tamogotchi game. You breed and raise monstrous creatures in an effort to create the perfect species. The promo text makes it all sound very friendly and cute, but then you look at what you’ll be breeding. I look forward to the inevitable plot twist where the creatures you build take over an old mansion and require the services of special forces operatives who can only carry one knife at a time.

Yakuza 0 is my pick of the week, largely because I’ve heard so many good things about the series, and starting from Zero seems to be a good way to go. It’s open world, it’s quirky, and it apparently lets you play the full arcade version of Space Harrier. I’d pay $20 for that alone!

Yakuza 0 beats out a strong pack of contenders to be my game of the week.

1979 Revolution: Black Friday gets console release this week, having been out for a few years on iOS and PC. You play as a photojournalist during Iran’s 1979 revolution, which saw a 2,500-year-old Persian monarchy overthrown by the Ayatollah Khomeini. This game is not a power fantasy, but a story with choices and QTEs. At 2-3 hours, it’s more like an interactive movie, but it shows that adult themes can go deeper than David Cage-like fridged-women tropes.

8 to Glory isn’t just a bull-riding game – it’s the *official* bull-riding game. That means you can choose from a roster of actual professional bull-riders and there’s a campaign mode. The twist? You can also play as the bull. Not sure if the bulls get a campaign mode, though.

Maximum Football 2018 is a Canadian football game, but it may not actually come out this week – I tried to research this title and all I could find was a bunch of apology videos from the devs.

Until this week, I didn’t know The Sims 4 was available on consoles. It’s now 86% more likely that I will play a Sims game. With the release of pet expansion The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs, now’s as good a time as ever.

In the end though, it’s hard to disagree with DT that Yakuza 0 is the one to beat this week. Another strong entry in a strong series. GOTW.

I've got to join the group pumping 1979 Revolution: Black Friday. I'm old enough that the events weren't taught in my history classes, as they were too recent to qualify as "history" while I was in school. I'm eager to learn more.

Geez Louise, that’s quite a list!

Radiant One is a waking dream, where, in the course of learning how to use lucid dreaming, the main character has managed to stumble into something that takes control of their dreams and turns them in frightening directions. The story looks intriguing, and the exploration and art look good to me, too. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a quiet puzzler with some story, and this looks like it fits the bill.

The Navigator is a 2D puzzle game where you control a boy trying to pilot his boat through a world affected by celestial floating rocks with various properties. You must arrange the rocks to light or open your way. The hand-drawn graphics look calming, and in the onslaught of other yet-another-match-three games out there, the puzzle aspects look fresh.

Shifting tones completely, 1979 Revolution: Black Friday is a testament to the versatility of the gaming medium and a welcome counterpoint to the “Switch is just for kiddie games” scoffing. It’s a quasi-historical interactive novel about the revolution against the Shah of Iran in 1979. Your choices shape your experience of the revolution as you negotiate the political and social currents. I have a friend whose family came here in the wake of that situation, and I’ll be curious to see what he thinks.

My shoulders already hate me (thank you Beat Saber and this weather), but I have to give my GOTW nod this week to the two Ghostbuster VR experiences. I’m a giant fan of the new film in general, and Kate McKinnon in particular, and I can’t wait to see these.

Here's the list, now in release-date order!

Woooo, Yakuza 0 on Pc!

Anxiously awaiting reviews of Code of Princess EX. That's a game I've always wanted to like but it looked and played so poorly on 3DS and was an odd port on PC a few years back. New art and some QoL improvements might be enough to make the new version shine, hopefully. The $40 price tag is tough to swallow though.

Similarly, Titan Quest on Switch is super awesome as Switch needs more Diablo-like games. Not loot games, those exist, but something more like a typical Diablo ARPG and TQ delivers. The problem is the console ports that were released a few months back were not well received because of poor controls, which is a *huge* issue for me. So, again, waiting on reviews and word of mouth. Hopefully this version shines.

Star Traders: Frontiers releases Wednesday and looked great in early access!

Forsaken Remastered. Nice.

Wait... So My Riding Stables - Life With Horses isn't coming to Switch this week on your side of the Atlantic?

Hard luck everyone. Come Thursday I'll be scrubbing away "hoof dirt" with some kind of chunky looking toothbrush, at home and on the go.

Shoot, Iconoclasts is this week on Switch and I'm all over that.

WEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
