[Discussion] Hope to Remember The Trump Administration Thread as being 'transparent and honest'

Let's follow and discuss what our newest presidential administration gets up to, the good, the bad, the lawsuits, and the many many indictments.

Looks like they went for the classic Friday night timing.

I'd be hard pressed to think of something I've wanted more in my life than for Trump to lose in humiliating fashion in the upcoming election.

I figured this was inevitable but I was still hoping Stone would spend the rest of his days behind bars. He’s spent the last couple weeks trawling any conservative media that would have him, openly begging Trump to intervene.

So I was thinking tonight, is this "Friday night news dump" strategy still effective at all?

The classic reasoning used to be to dump the "bad news" like this on a Friday because people were out to eat, and going on dates, and out to the movies and doing various other "weekend things" and not watching the evening news. Then when the weekend is over and people start paying attention to the news again, it old news and it's no longer being reported.

Well the "weekend things" are all on hold because of the pandemic they failed to stop. Plus, with so many people online on Twitter and the like, and phones that send news notifications as the news occurs, this won't be missed by many Americans.

Especially now that the news is waiting for it, and people now understand "Friday night is when they release stuff they'd rather you not pay attention to.".

I can't decide if I'd rather see him get absolutely crushed on election night and have to make a concession call to Biden - or better yet, refuse to, showing just how small a person he is - or watch him be dragged from the Oval by Secret Service or US Marshals in January.

(From a performative perspective anyway- realistically I want an indisputable defeat as early as possible so he has less opportunity for chaos)

Did this administration do something to make it seem like they understand modern times and are 'with it'?

Friday news dumps still have the one advantage that nothing can be “done” to correct or stop an action for two days.

While everyone gets the news, by Monday we are on to the next issue. My guess is that Houston will go down hard this weekend and no one will be talking goodbye about Stone by Monday.

Biden needs to beat Trump by a Goldilocks difference. Too little and we'll be in recount hell for months. Too much and Trump will shout conspiracy, only communist dictators win by that much, etc.

... like when Reagan won 49 of the 50 states in 1984, and won the popular vote by over 18 percent?

Sad thing is that even if Biden wins big, it won’t really be that big. Maybe 15 points in the popular vote if this turns into an absolute rout? That’s about the upper limit, and it really isn’t a huge difference.

For me to feel remotely good about our country’s future prospects, he should win by more like 40-50 points given how blatantly terrible this administration has been.

Oh, and there is no amount Trump loses by where he doesn’t claim he was cheated.

He is going to claim cheating even if he wins. Because he always accuses the other side of doing what he already does.

I'd like for him to lose every toss up. Mich, Ohio, Wisconsin, Arizona, Texas, Florida, N Carolina. I want him more than doubled in EC count. Like 170 to 350 ass kicking numbers.

Throw Georgia in there for good measure, maybe even Iowa and that would be a pretty good looking map!

If he lost Alabama as well, that would be indisputable. Not gonna happen though, no matter what. Even Jesus would lose Alabama if he ran as a Democrat.

It wouldn't take being a Democrat. He could run with the New Testament as his platform and lose handily.

Jesus would be a Jewish man running independent but caucusing with the Democrats.

Didn't work so well for Bernie.

Yeah, New Testament platform as a Republican and he’d still lose cause they’d call him a filthy RINO.

And he’d be dark skinned.

Not that we need another example to understand Trump's sick brain... This one is a great (horrible?) illustration of just how little Trump cares about people, especially brown people.

New York Times: Trump considered selling Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, former acting Homeland Security chief says

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump considered the idea of selling Puerto Rico in 2017 after the island was devastated by Hurricane Maria, the former acting Homeland Security secretary told The New York Times in an interview published Friday.
"The President's initial ideas were more of as a businessman, you know," Elaine Duke, who was serving as DHS' acting secretary when the hurricane hit the island in September 2017, told the Times.
"'Can we outsource the electricity? Can we can we sell the island? You know, or divest of that asset?'" Trump reportedly said, according to Duke in the newspaper interview. "(She said the idea of selling Puerto Rico was never seriously considered or discussed after Mr. Trump raised it.)," the paper reported.

Further, he would not have had anything like the evolved Rabbinical commentaries we are familiar with, and he would have represented a radical, apocalyptic form of Judaism that was a side current of Judaism for a few hundred years, during repeated social and economic and political upheavals. I suspect Jews would view him as a sort of Joseph Smith figure, although perhaps not so far out of the mainstream as Smith was from Protestantism.

He'd struggle to get a recognized constituency. Christians would be repelled by his insistence on conversion to Judaism to study with him (imagine Fallwell submitting to an old school circumcision and renouncing Protestantism to study Torah), and Jews would be worried he'd be trying to "reform" Judaism back to his older style (because rabbis have been rejecting his interpretations for millenia). It would be a royal mess. Terms like "Pauline" would suddenly come to the fore, and there would be a lot of people who'd come to believe that Jesus was only a step on the path to God's New Religion that was eventually named after him, not the be-all of it, when they discovered that he probably would have dressed Paul down and shut him up for his conversion of the religion from Judaism to something new. They'd probably in the process raise not only Paul and Augustine, but Martin Luther, to the same level as Jesus, to justify not giving up the King James version that they know and love.

The evolution of Christianity means that we can never go back.

To trump there isn't any part of America that isn't an asset to be divested.

Or looted.

You guys, he was OBVIOUSLY talking about the board game Puerto Rico. He's a big time board-gamer, don't you know? You libs will spin anything to make him look bad.

Trump would never play boardgames, because he would lose so often.

I bet he would love to play them now, as all his sycophants would let him win and tell him how smart he is.

Naw, he'd still lose, but they'd start to claim new interpretations of the rules that meant he actually won, praising him all along for playing so well even as the building they're in catches fire while being swept away in a flood.

Crocodile Dundee on covid and trump

*sigh*

Trump to appoint Sebastian Gorka to the National Security Education Board

This guy was never qualified for his first job, and it's doubtful he is qualified for this position either.

National Security Education Board?
