Favorite Little Rewards in Games

In Civilization 1, the player started out with a little hut;

The more civilization points you earned, the more you could build up your hut until it looked like this;

That was probably my favorite little reward in any game. What are some of your favorite little rewards from games?

Well for me the classic one is anytime you level up in an RPG. Especially if you get some new ability points to allocate or can finally use that weapon/armor.

I thought it was pretty cool to get a statue made of myself in Oblivion.

I'm going to contribute something very small and unimportant.

They were a silly addition, but I always enjoyed finding them in Chrono Cross.

Was speaking about this with Mattbo on GWJ Discord while playing Rocket League yesterday, but that game is great at constantly giving you little rewards for customisation after every match.

In the "purely cosmetic" department: I think I've mentioned it on the site before, but half the reason I played Robotech: Battlecry as much as I did was cosmetic unlocks. Because having my Veritech painted just like Max Sterling's was cool, darn it.

In the "with real gameplay benefits" department: I love, love, love games that let me capture/salvage vehicles from the enemy. Hunting down a Ship of the Line in Sid Meier's Pirates!, capturing a Xenon LX in X3: Reunion, launching boarding pods in X3: Terran Conflict, negotiating for salvage rights and then trying to take that one 'Mech down with minimal damage in Battletech... yeah. And even when I don't have a use for my prizes, I keep them as trophies.

Everybody's Golf is like that, after every single round you get 4-6 new outfits, hair styles and other customisation items. That alone kept me playing for hours on end.

In 3D action games and RPGs, I like when the world changes visibly based on something you did. For example, in some of the earlier Assassin's Creed games, you'd renovate shops throughout cities, turning them from boarded up vacants into shops you could access. The transition animation was always satisfying.

The Witcher 3 had abandoned towns with groups of monsters. If you cleared them out, people would come back and there would usually be a new merchant you could access. I really liked doing those.
