Starfield - Bethesda Next Big IP

I don't think I've yet seen a live action trailer for a game that I actually liked. This one was tolerable, at least. I'm not sure why game marketing thinks a live action trailer is what's needed to get people excited about a game.

They would always be better if they were just rendered with game assets.

(But, you know, people seem to like making them, so whatevs.)

Live action trailers are selling you tone, not gameplay.

Of course it's about tone, but they always come off as super cheesy, which ruins the intended effect for me.

The Division live short movies where awesome. And got me really pumped up.

Memories are short, how could anyone forget one of the greatest live-action game trailers of all time?

So, after 15 years here I am buying a game blindly, spare us Gods of Bethesda Bugs for we are mere mortals, moths attracted to your flame of space combat, base and ship building, first person shootines and epic storylines.
I haven't bought a full-priced game since the orange box, and that one had 3 masterpieces and some loose change gaming. Now to make room in my main drive which is less roomy than I would desire but who needs all these programs on your C drive, windows? pffft, more like uninstalldows amirite?

Here's a great interview with Phil Hines about his personal Starfield playthroughs so far after logging ~160 hours. No spoilers, just very high level takeaways. Hearing him talk about it got me even more pumped for the release.

(Sorry for the double post, not sure how to delete)

Preload is live for Xbox Game Pass

I just looked up the specs for this game and for the first time in a long time I shook my head and said nope. BG3 and Cyberpunk play like a dream on my gaming laptop but Starfield is way ahead of it's capacity.

Xbox Cloud Gaming could be an option for you. Out of the streaming options, I think the performance of Microsoft's is probably the worst (best being Luna, but I'm biased) but its good enough

Huh. I hadn't thought of that.

Bethesda is pretty good about stuff running on lower specs. I would give it a try for sure and see.

Anyone know if this will be playable on GeForce NOW? A friend of mine has been trying it out and recommended it for folk like me who don't own an xBox and don't want a PC gaming rig. Is there a way to check?

If BG3 and Cyberpunk run well on your system, Starfield will be fine. They're all aimed at modern console system specs.

They just announce at Gamescomm that Game Pass will be on GeForce Now

I think the processor difference will be what kills you on running Starfield, sad to say.

This post has gone to stay with Grandma on the farm.

Updated with a better copy

wow, I pulled my post after you changed it but you still caught me!

I was frantically editing. I always read my post one more time after posting and immediately noticed that image was a thumbnail, not the real thing. So I was googling another copy and updating the link. Then double checked again after your post to make sure I really fixed it.

I do that too. You are seen!

Gamepass probably doesn’t count for early access does it?

I think if you buy the $35 premium upgrade digitally it does. Maybe there's a FAQ on the site, but I thought I saw that comment somewhere. Not sure what else that upgrade is for except for Gamepass players.

EDIT: FAQ Question answer is still unclear.

But this snippet on the official versions page looks pretty definitive:

Upgrade from Standard Edition and receive the following**:

Up to 5-days early access (Requires Game Pass Subscription or Digital Version of the Base Game)

So you have to buy the digital upgrade, $35, and you get early access.

I figured as much. Still fair. Game passes incredible value. But I’m not gonna pay $35 just to have a game five days earlier and I’ve got a backlog of dozens of games.

But I would appreciate it if no one post any impressions or thoughts until I have it. Thanks.

Yeah that's what I thought.

Steam pre-load is live.
