If I don't see at least one NPC ragdoll so hard they turn inside out I will personally consider this game a failure. You've been warned Bethesda
93_confirmed wrote:That's definitely warranted after past releases but the difference this time around is MS now owns Bethesda and dedicated their entire QA team to a successful launch. They are all in.
Corporations saying they are doing something, and actually doing it are two completely different things.
True but in this case, MS desperately needs a flagship title to boost Xbox sales so it's in their best interest to actually do it. We'll see.
It's a Bethesda-RPG, so it's a forgone conclusion that I'll play it (absolute garbage-fire notwithstanding).
Day 1 purchase but unsure how far my old rig will manage it, so trying to lower my expectations as I may need to buy a new one.
Also, I do not like to see detail on games before they are released so I have avoided the videos and most of the discussions.
Gonna have to clear up some space. Just tried to remotely preload it and it's 140 GB!
2TB SSDs have been on sale under $100 the last month or two. Maybe pick one up.

I'm the same but am so hype for this game. Trying not to read/watch anything other than that 45 min direct.
Most of what I have seen has been lore so I haven't felt spoiled about what the story will be. It is just setting the stage.

I haven't even watched that; I'm looking to go in as blind as possible! Super stoked for this, the only thing that's kept me from being overwhelmingly impatient for its release is that I have Baldur's Gate 3 and Tears of the Kingdom eating up my time right now. What a year so far, so many great titles!
Oh. Right! GamePass. Preloading PC version. May as well check it out if I don't forget before my subscription lapses.
Got my game key from GreenmanGaming this morning, and added to steam.
Just need to wait for Pre-load to appear on the 30th.

Ditto. Although I seriously doubt I'll be able to play anywhere close to launch given I'm not even into Act II in Baldur's Gate 3.

Ditto ditto. Though if DOS2 is anything to go by, I'll need a different genre of game to play in between 50 hour bouts of BG3.
Of course, a lot will depend on stability/launch bugs, but we will see.
I see no reason to rush through BG3. I am in act 3 and I assume Starfield will need a few days for patching at the minimum.

I can affirm that this works as of 5-6 months ago and $15 more expensive
Saw some Gen3 M2 2TB drives for under $70 today. One Intel one didn't have sparkling reviews, but still a name brand. Definitely time to get an extra hard drive if you need one.
What are 3TB and 4TB going for then?
I need MOAR
edit: jebus! 4tb ssd 4.7 stars for $145?
This is the one I got when I built my latest box a few months back. Going for $219 right now.
Crucial P3 Plus 4TB PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 5000MB/s - CT4000P3PSSD8
Keep an eye out for Western Digital Black going on sale. I missed a sale where the 4TB was going for 240. The 2TB is currently on sale for $119
Daaang, I splurged on a 2TB Samsung 980 Pro ~2 years ago for $350, and it's now selling for $120. No regrets though, it was definitely worth it. These m.2 NVMe drives are such a sweet spot for size, capacity, speed, and installation convenience - I'm very glad to see the prices coming so far down.

Looks like GMG has the best deal. 17% plus 2% for the monthly XP bonus, just redeem it first. So 19% off either edition.
Review embargo on Aug 31 at noon. So you have a dozen hours to still get that discount and preload if you want to wait for reviews, get premium, and still play 5 days early.
They suckered me in with a pretty wrap
The wrap looks great! It's a genius move by MS. Instead of offering a bundle, they'll get people to drop $50 on the wrap while also getting them to subscribe to Gamepass memberships.

I picked one up for $90 during that Prime sale!

Out of curiosity I dug into my old records.
It looks like in August 2020 I bought an Intel M.2 2 TB drive, along with an M.2 PCIe x4 Adapter, and paid $295 for the pair. They would cost me $181 on Amazon today.
I bought those specifically to run Flight Simulator on my old PC, which did not have an M.2 slot. It also had nowhere near enough storage space for FS.
The following January I ended up getting a new PC, and its MB (Asus ROG STRIX Z490-E Gaming) has dual M.2 sockets. One came with a 1 TB M.2 drive, and the other is empty. I ended transferring the 2 TB M.2 drive into the new PC, but kept it on the PCI adapter because it looks like the second M.2 connector on the MB is partially covered by the GPU, and I did not want to pull that out.
Windows currently reports 555 GB free of 930 GB on the 1 TB drive, and 1.32 TB free of 1.86 TB on the 2 TB drive. Before I just checked, I honestly thought that I had less than that available just because of MSFS. Hopefully that's enough empty space for Starfield (and/or BG3) without having to pick up another SSD.
Just saw this posted, haven't watched it.
Cheesy as hell, but effective.
And, the trend of game trailers using haunting/etherial/downtempo covers of famous pop songs has certainly come to middle.
(I tease, but it still works on me shockingly often, this time included.)

Funny thing is that last night I was eating in a restaurant with my wife & daughter when we heard a strange cover version of Rocket Man playing. I had no idea who it was, though.
I was expecting more from the live action trailer. The one for Skyrim was so much better.
I'm not opposed to song remakes/remixes (and sometimes they're even better than the original), but that Rocketman remake was rather offputting. Did not care for it at all. And the direction on parts of that trailer was just... odd.
Still stoked for the game regardless!
I don't think I've yet seen a live action trailer for a game that I actually liked. This one was tolerable, at least. I'm not sure why game marketing thinks a live action trailer is what's needed to get people excited about a game.
